Processing acorns! So much more fun with a friend. Shout out to for teaching me what to do with some of the food that's all around us โค๏ธ

Burning holes in landscape fabric - this method is far superior to using a torch with an x attachment (no burning further than the hole) or using a jig made from plywood (no lifting and moving heavy wood).

What you need:
-flat metal garden cart
-two 16 inch pavers to protect the tires on the garden cart
-a portable fire pit that fits on the garden cart - we used a solo stove since graciously let me borrow hers, but you could use any of the "smokeless" knock offs. Not sure about a normal fire pit - you'd probably want fire bricks rather than pavers?
-3ft threaded rod, 1/4 inch, coarse threads
-2 nuts
-2 lock washers
-steel can

Drill a quarter inch hole in the bottom of the can, put the rod through and attach a nut and washer on each side of the can. Build twice the number of hole burners as you have people burning holes. Check that the wheels on your cart are tight, start a fire and build up a bit of a coal bed. Heat two cans in the fire and then run so you've always got a hit can to melt holes with.

Perfect holes, no extra burned spots, no shredded edges, and no paying through the nose for pre-burned holes!

Farm weights! A 300ft roll plus two cinderblocks is good for 70-80lb, plus freshly worked soil makes for extra ankle work to maintain balance.

A few more hours of putting down landscape fabric and I'll have next year's w**d control in place. I had to drive up to outside of Nashville, but I found a half acre of new landscape fabric for $350 on FB marketplace, compared to over $1500 if I'd ordered it. Here's to 10 hours w**ding over the course of a season compared to 10+ hours a week ๐Ÿ“

Boosting up my soil so it can support healthy strawberries and flowers next spring! This step is the soil primer from , followed by 40lbs of biodiverse compost from and 5lb of purple winecap spawn. Tilled lightly into the top few inches and hopefully over the weekend I'll be tucking everything under landscape fabric to spend the winter colonizing my crazy 18% organic matter and yet somehow bacterially dominated soils. Here's hoping for a soil community that can hold fungal disease to a minimum ๐Ÿคž๐Ÿผ

Got the strawberry plugs and flower seedlings all tucked in for the freeze! And all the tender plants brought in. I really need to put myself on an indoor plant moratorium until I get my house built, I'm running out of surfaces!

What is planting a seed if not a potion of soil and organisms and temperature and a bit of magic? Our 4500 strawberries for next year are settled into trays and mostly putting on good growth, and there are 12000 flower seeds tucked into trays to hopefully grow and bloom right as the strawberries start next year. Plus weโ€™re pondering a new arrangement for the smaller fieldโ€ฆ not quite ready to reveal yet, but it starts with la and ends with inth ๐Ÿ˜

Scenes from around the farm... I found an epic source for pallets - hit me up if you need any! $78 got me enough for all my seedling tables, plus extra to build a little pergola for folks to grab baskets and check out next spring! Plus a few interesting bugs and a couple shots of the bestest puppy in the world watching over his bunnies.

It's hard to describe how awesome and smart this little goober is. Though he's approaching 6 months and 60 lbs, so not so small anymore, but still very much a puppy ๐Ÿ˜‚

Welcome Briar! I drove all the way to Maine to pick up this little sq**rt; his breeder selected him specifically to balance out Luna's neuroses and my situation on the farm. He's 14 weeks old, and I am so in love. He's calmer than any of the grown dogs we met on the drive home, learns crazy fast and is already letting me sleep through the night. Luna isn't quite as sure, but given that I definitely *don't* want him picking up some of her habits, I'm ok if they aren't best buds.

He's named after Briar Moss from the Winding Circle series by Tamora Pierce. ๐Ÿ˜
