Here is Furkids Animal Rescue and Shelters pet of the week, Chewy!


Chewy is a one-year-old Australian Shepherd mix who's an all-around great pup! She's almost two years old and makes friends with everyone she meets - dogs, people of all ages, and even cats! 🐾
Coming in at about 32 pounds, this girl is a true medium-sized pup, not too big and not too small. She's still got a little bit of puppy energy and LOVES to play and romp around the yard. Chewy is truly a perfect dog!

While paw licking can have a few different causes, including injury or behavioral issues, one of the most common reasons that pets lick their paws is itchiness. And two common causes of itchiness in pets are parasites and allergies.

Kai is Furkids Animal Rescue and Shelterspet of the week!

After being adopted and then returned, this ten-month-old, shy boy is scared in the shelter and needs a gentle, loving family to care for him. Here's a little bit more about our sweet boy Kai..💙
Kai is a Presa Canario mix that's already house-trained, AND good with kids & other dogs. What more could you ask for?! Kai has been returned to us for no fault of his own and needs a safe place to land. We hate seeing our pups spend their youth in the shelter.
This precious pup of love is 65 pounds and still growing, so we recommend him go to an adopter who can handle larger dogs. He is neutered, up to date on all vaccines, and microchipped. Take a chance on Kai and let him fill that missing piece of your heart.

Big Mac is the Atlanta Humane Societypet of the week!
Big Mac is a charismatic and confident 1-year-old pit bull mix in search of an experienced owner who can provide the structure and guidance he craves. With a personality as large as his stature, Big Mac thrives in an environment without young children or small animals, as his exuberance can be overwhelming for them. Despite his size, Big Mac is a cuddle enthusiast and loves affection, though his high energy can sometimes be too much for some people. He is actively working on moderating his enthusiasm during playtime and is quick to learn, especially when motivated by tasty treats. If you excel at setting clear rules and have a stash of delicious snacks, Big Mac will respond positively and engage eagerly in his training. Big Mac is already well-versed in basic commands like sitting and waiting at the door and friendly with new acquaintances. Big Mac is available at the Atlanta Humane's location at 1551 Perry Boulevard and goes home with three free training sessions with Barking Hound Village to help you continue his training.

Scrappy is the Atlanta Humane Society pet this week!

Scrappy is a 2-year-old chihuahua mix. He's a charming and affectionate dog who can be a bit shy at first, but he's easily won over with some tasty treats. He's known for his attention-seeking behavior, including standing on you, giving kisses, and pawing for pets. Once he forms a bond with his favorite human, he tends to stay close and offer unwavering loyalty. When Scrappy first arrived at Atlanta Humane, he was unfamiliar with everyday experiences like walking on a leash. Thanks to the dedicated Behavior and Training Team, he is making great strides in learning leash skills and enjoying affection from familiar faces. Scrappy can be startled by loud household items so he'd thrive in a quiet, low-activity home with minimal travel or boarding. He’s best suited to a household with older children who can respect his need for personal space, as younger children might be too overwhelming for him. Scrappy is waiting for you at the Atlanta Humane Society's Westside location at 1551 Perry Boulevard.

It was an honor and so much fun attending The Tiny Door Reveal Party at The Atlanta Humane Society this weekend! Adoption fees were waived and many cats and dogs found their furrrever homes. We got to meet lots of new people, we painted many faces and we even got to make some crafts of our own! A super fun day for the BEST cause!!

It was a fun day here at VCA Midtown. Practice makes perfect on the face painting for our event at The Atlanta Humane Society!!
MJ recruited a "little face" who was here with her Dad and dog, "Bay," who btw, was adopted from AHS a few years ago. Bay's little girl came in with her older brother's dinosaur shoes on, her mermaid pants and a princess dress.....she left with all those things and a puppy face! 🙂 She was the perfect model.

Lots of summer cookouts end with cool, refreshing watermelon. Watermelon is fun for pets; the high water content hydrates them and the glucose gives them energy. However, pets often swallow the seeds or eat the rind, and both can block the GI tract. To avoid GI blockages, cut the melon from the rind and remove the seeds before sharing this classic summer treat.

With heat waves sweeping across the country, blue-green algae is appearing in new areas and posing an increased risk to pets.

Found in lakes, ponds or any source of standing water, it’s extremely toxic and consuming it can be fatal. The best way to prevent accidental poisoning is to keep a close eye on pets when they’re around water.

If you think your pet has been exposed, take them to the nearest emergency veterinary hospital and contact the ASPCA Poison Control at 888-426-4435.
