Today is the reunion! I’m excited to see everybody! I know many of you can’t make it this year, but we will have another! For those that are coming, feel free to bring a friend or two! There’s food and drinks at several restaurants and the Georgia game will be on the big screen in the courtyard. There’s a large field at the end of the parking lot for playtime. See yall soon!! 🥰🐾❤️

American Kennel Club
Dear Kim,
I’m the Senior Director of Digital Marketing at the American Kennel Club, and I am looking for AKC-registered dogs to appear in an AKC educational advertising campaign that is filming in the Atlanta area on October 14-18, 2024.

The campaign is intended to educate people about the AKC and our mission. Dogs of all ages and breeds are welcome and encouraged to apply! All submissions must be received by Wednesday, October 9 at 4PM Eastern time in order to be considered.

To be considered, your dog will need to be well-trained and comfortable around other unfamiliar (and similarly well-trained/socialized) dogs and unfamiliar people. They should also be comfortable around unfamiliar sights and sounds like they might encounter during a film shoot.

The filming may include requests for your dog to demonstrate some obedience skills, tricks, or “being a dog” behaviors, so dogs being considered must be able to do some of the following, and be able to be cued with the owner off camera:
Sit / stand / down / stay / wait
Off-leash recall (in a secure area)
Fetch / chase a toy or ball
Catch a flying disc
Chew on a toy or treat
Hold an object in the mouth
High five or shake / give a paw
Jump/step up onto a platform, chair, or furniture (i.e., bed, couch)
Head tilt on cue
Nose touch or nudge on cue
Rest head on an object/person on cue
Roll over or lay on back
Be comfortable wearing dog clothing
Be comfortable laying down inside a tent (i.e., a simulated camping setup)
Taking a bath
Agility-style jump over a bar
Other tricks, skills, or behaviors that are appealing on camera
We will also have a professional dog trainer on set who can assist. If you are interested and available, please submit your dog for consideration by filling out the form linked below. In it, you’ll be asked to submit photos and video of your dog for us to review:
Include no more than four (4) recent photos of your dog
A link to one (1) brief video of your dog running/moving, and/or demonstrating any skills or tricks they can do.
A YouTube or social media video link works great
It will need to be one that is set to “public” or “unlisted” so that we can view it
COMPLETE SUBMISSION FORM
Important notes:
You do not need to be available for more than one shoot day in order to participate.
One shoot day would require between 6-8 hours on set.
Your local travel expenses will be reimbursed for the shoot.
If selected, you will be asked to sign a talent release for your dog.
Indoor filming locations will be climate controlled. Outdoor filming locations will have shade or overhead cover provided.
We will have space designated for you to do any touch-up grooming and/or crate your dog during breaks.
We will provide water and designated relief areas for all dogs.
All submissions must be received no later than 4PM Eastern on October 9, 2024.

Long post. But please read.

I just want to take a moment to stress the importance of the weather impacts we are going to experience over the next few days. I know that so many times we might be on the line or "potential" for big impacts, but sometimes miss out. We were prepared for the potential for heavy rain from the last tropical system..but it really underperformed. THIS SYSTEM IS MUCH DIFFERENT.

We aren't saying we "might" have a lot of rain or we "might" have damaging wind, but we are saying we "WILL" have a lot of rain and we "WILL" have damaging wind. This is a situation where the remnants of a landfalling major hurricane hits the Gulf, then travels through our entire state going right through the metro area. Models have been very consistent with this.

Please be safe…
DO NOT DRIVE THROUGH FLOOD WATER.
DO NOT TOUCH DOWNED POWER LINES.

Here's what we are preparing for:
Rain: 4-8”+. We may increase this range.
Wind: Gusts 40-60mph in the metro area. Higher gusts east of the city. Expect trees down and widespread power outages
Flooding: Flooding is likely in low lying flood prone areas. River and stream flooding is possible.
Severe threat: The main severe threat will be in east Georgia east of the track. Some of our eastern counties may have tornado warnings.
Tropical storm watch/Warning. We are all in a tropical storm watch right now. It will most likely be upgraded to a tropical storm warning as it gets closer. That doesn't happen too often.

Timing:
2 rounds of heavy rain coming in.
Round one-Today into early Thursday. This isn't from Helene. This is from a cold front.
Round two-Tropical moisture from Helene starts feeding in during the day Thursday. The wind will start kicking up later in the day Thursday with the rain getting heavier.
The most impactful part of this will be Thursday night overnight into Friday morning. It will be tough to sleep Thursday night hearing the heavy rain and trees cracking and falling in the area.
