"I'm really trying to change the way people shop. Many are used to big box stores, but shopping at markets can become a weekly habit. CSAs are a great way for the public to support farmers."🌾
Supporting local farmers through CSAs not only ensures fresher produce but also strengthens our community and local economy. Make it a weekly habit to give back by shopping with your local farmers market and with Patchwork City Farms every weekend.💚
Happy Tuesday! 💚 Let's talk about Radishes— one of our refreshing faves! Here are a few fun facts—
▪️ They're members of the Mustard and Cabbage family and related to Wasabi. The root is related to Kale, Broccoli, Cauliflower, and Horseradish.
▪️ They're a fast-growing root vegetable that can be ready to harvest in as little as 25–30 days from seed.
▪️ Radishes germinate best in soil temperatures between 18–30°C with good moisture but can germinate at temperatures as low as 5°C. They need space to grow, so seedlings should be planted uniformly apart or thinned out shortly after sprouting. Alternatively, they can also be grown in containers because they don't require a lot of space.
▪️ Because they're easy to grow and grow fast, radish plants are perfect for children's gardens and beginner farmers
▪️ They're high in Vitamin C, Calcium, Magnesium, Potassium, and Antioxidants, which can lower high blood pressure, aid in digestion, and lower blood sugar.
▪️ They have a peppery, bitter taste, but the flavor is milder when the skin is peeled.
▪️ Radishes are mostly used in salads but are so delicious in potato soups, sauteed side dishes, and blended with fruit juices!
They're commonly eaten raw but can be roasted or added to cooked dishes. They're delicious in salads, soups, sauteed side dishes, and blended with fruit juices, and pair well with flavors like thyme and dill.

We love these long, curvy veggies, Garlic Scapes! 💚 Let's get into some fun facts:
▪️ Also known as Garlic Shoots, Spears, and Serpent Garlic, these thin, vibrant green stalks grow from the garlic bulb, resembling a cross between chives and scallions.
▪️ With a bright garlic aroma, they offer a milder flavor compared to garlic cloves, maintaining a tender, crisp texture when cooked. When roasted, they develop a sweet flavor akin to roasted garlic.
▪️ Rich in antioxidants, phytonutrients, manganese, vitamins B6 and C, and Selenium, Garlic Scapes support cardiovascular health and overall well-being, containing allicin, the compound responsible for garlic's pungent flavor and health benefits.
▪️ Typically harvested at 8-10 inches for optimal tenderness, they can grow up to 2 feet long, offering versatility as both a vegetable and an herb in raw and cooked preparations.
▪️ Delicious grilled, chopped, steamed, sauteed, or roasted, Garlic Scapes are perfect for pickling, preserving, and flavor infusion recipes, pairing beautifully with seasonal vegetables like artichokes, spring peas, and more.
▪️ Stored in a paper bag or wrapped in a paper towel in the refrigerator, Garlic Scapes can stay fresh for up to three weeks.
