Georgia Pet Foundation

Georgia Pet Foundation Statewide spay/neuter organization. Buy a license tag - Save a life. In April of 2016, Governor Deal signed legislation that approved the new tag.

Georgia Pet Foundation is a 501(c)(3) non profit organization formed to administer funds from a new spay/neuter license tag. Georgia Pet Foundation receives $19 ($20 for renewals) of each tag purchased. Georgia Pet Foundation then provides grants to eligible organizations for targeted spay/neuter programming across the state.

One person cannot do everything, but TOGETHER, we can make a difference. The pet overpopulation crisis is real, and it’s not going away. Each year, an estimated 3.3 million dogs and 3.4 million cats enter U.S. animal shelters. Overpopulation leads to millions of animals being euthanized annually, with 70% of shelter animals being put down due to lack of space and resources. Spaying and neutering is the only solution.

Join us in helping to reduce the suffering of countless animals. Donate to Georgia Pet Foundation today and be part of the change.

"She’s not homeless—her home is outdoors, where she was born and has spent her whole life. She’s formed strong bonds with her home turf and the other cats in her colony. She may not be indoors with people, but she is living a valued life. Accepting and acknowledging this simple reality is key to understanding and helping feral cats. TNR (trap-neuter-return) is an act of compassion society can extend to them."

Kitten season, also known as feline breeding season, typically runs from March to October when the weather is milder. During this time, shelters, rescues, fosters, and advocates are often overwhelmed, struggling to keep up with the endless flood of kittens being born. Many of these kittens end up at county shelters or tragically die on the streets.

While we can't control the weather, we do have the power to control one very important factor: the number of babies being born. 2024 was an especially difficult year for Georgia shelters, with some of the highest numbers of cats and dogs euthanized due to lack of space. But as we enter Kitten Season 2025, we are more determined than ever to make a meaningful difference.

SPAY & NEUTER SAVES LIVES. This simple yet effective solution is one of the best ways to reduce the overwhelming number of unwanted animals and prevent the tragic outcomes we witness year after year. Let's work together to control the population and give every animal the chance they deserve for a better life.

Who We Are...

Georgia Pet Foundation was established as a 501(c)(3) non profit organization in April 2016 when Governor Deal signed legislation approving the new tag.

In 2024, over 33,000 pets were euthanized due to overpopulation and lack of space in overcrowded shelters. Since Covid, the dumping of companion animals, has increased dramatically.

In addition to the Georgia Pet Foundation license plate program, we also focus on public education initiatives to increase community awareness of the benefits of spaying and neutering Georgia's pets.

By purchasing a "Georgia Pet Foundation license plate", you help fund free and/or low-cost spay/neuter programs across the state.

33,109 animals were euthanized in Georgia shelters in 2024. Let that number sink in as a sobering reminder of the pressing issue of pet overpopulation.

Spaying and neutering are fundamental tools in reducing the number of unwanted animals and euthanasia rates.

Our partners at Fix Georgia Pets are working daily to address this issue comprehensively by increasing access to affordable services, educating the public, enacting supportive policies, and targeting specific communities with the greatest need.

By working on all fronts, Georgia can make strides toward reducing the number of animals that are euthanized and improving the overall health and well-being of its animal population.
