Hey everyone. Happy Monday. You are invited to join us down at the Urban Food Forest at Browns Mill. This Saturday, we will be harvesting fruit down at the Food Forest.
and I will guide you through picking fresh fruit, and then I'm going to do a jam making demonstration. This means a lot because it's a great way to reduce food waste and develop value added products. Let's have some fun and learn this weekend. This event will be free to participate.
Saturday, June 15th 9am-11am at the Urban Food Forest at Browns Mill.
Have a great week!

This is one my favorite pictures from foraging in Atlanta. These are Honey Mushrooms forming inside a log. I took this picture last year at Truly Living Well.
When things slow down on the farm I do enjoy foraging. For now, we still have a nice forest here in Atlanta. Much of the canopy has been kept because of how Atlanta developed. It was a series of annexations. This allowed the trees to stick around to grow. Many of the species of mushrooms we benefit from need time in the forest to form like chaga and reishi. Maybe I'll come across chaga in our Beech forest this season.

Live from Atlanta.
Mushroom Monday ๐Ÿ„
This is a pink oyster that grew out of the compost. This genus isn't as widely studied, but it has its benefits.
Oyster ranks third worldwide in cultivation.

Fly high friend. The farm is in the Sandy Creek-Chatahoochee watershed. It's not often I get to share the animals around the farm. Luckily had his camera. Check out this beautiful shot of a crane flying above the creek. Atlanta has some beautiful natural pockets if you know your way around. This is why natural and organic practices are important. They help preserve and promote natural habitats.๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿพ

In honor of Mushroom Monday here is a simple way to grow your own mushrooms, propagate spawn, and recycle.
Materials:
Grain or sawdust spawn blocks or bags
3-5 Gallon Bucket
Cardboard and paper
Scissors or a knife
This is a process of layering and watering. You won't use the entire block, it can be preserved in the refrigerator.
Steps:
1. Cut up the cardboard and paper.
2. Soak your scraps in water
3. Open your spawn
4. Break off a few chunks of the brick and sprinkle it into your bucket 1/4 inch
5. Now add a layer of cardboard and paper 1 inch thick over the spawn.
6. Repeat this process until the bucket is filled.
You will keep your bucket in a cool and shady spot. Remember to keep it moist and the spawn should take over the cardboard. In time it will "fruit" edible mushrooms for you to enjoy. You can also take pieces from your bucket and grow additional spawn.

Food, fellowship, foraging, farming, and fungi live from Gratitude Botanical Farm. Happy Mushroom Monday to you! Yesterday's Plug Talk workshop was a special moment on the farm. Mush gratitude to everyone who registered and participated. It was a good time. We talked about mycology of course, but Plug Talk is an opportunity to introduce and encourage people to explore the world of fungi. There is a lot of healing and opportunity in this field. Take a look at how we got down in the midst of the rain. Thank you to everyone who helped set up and take down the tents and equipment. A farmer really appreciated that helping hand. But a big shout out to the one and only for being a guest instructor for the workshop.
We will be hosting a second workshop on March 19th. You can register online www.gratitudeatl.com/events.
[All are welcome. Black and Indigenous participants use code FREE40 to take 40% off the registration.]
