The Chahoua Chamber

The Chahoua Chamber The Chahoua Chamber is a hobbyist keeper and breeder of Mniarogekko chahoua geckos. I can say without a doubt that this is my favorite reptile species of all!

Over my 13 year tenure with chahoua, I have bred and worked with hundreds of geckos across both locales (Pine Island and Mainland/Grand Terre), as well as every variation, ranging from pastel to intensely saturated base color, and no white collars to super high white. My collection has some animals that reflect several generations of selective breeding, and others that are F1/F2 animals with close

r ties to wild populations.

I started keeping reptiles at age 7 and have had them ever since. During my career as a reptile keeper and hobbyist, I’ve kept many gecko species including other New Caledonian geckos, agamids, iguanas, monitors, amphibians and snakes. In 2011, I made the decision to focus most of my time and resources on chahoua and since then, I've not only learned a great deal about the species, but been fortunate enough to create some of the most beautiful specimens in the hobby.

Hi Folks 👋

I know it has been quieter here recently than in years past so I wanted to check in, say hello, and share an announcement.

First, the geckos are all doing great and the primary reason for the slower updates on this page has been my day job (womp womp). My career has changed significantly over the last year and a half and is demanding more from me, and the result of that is less time to spend on social media connecting with each of you unfortunately. I hope to share more frequent updates this year, but am always here to answer your questions so keep firing them my way via messenger.

Second, as my professional career has grown, I feel like I need to lighten my load so I am considering selling my entire collection of sarasinorum. I love this species and I think they have so much momentum in the hobby, but chahoua have been and will always be my core focus. Selling all of my sarasinorum would be 5.8 proven/RTB white spot/collar adults and various offspring from 2024 I need to count. This will include both of the striped offspring, the one with the "arrow collar" and striped tail, and the parents that produced everything I have. When I started building this group in 2022, I bought sarasinorum from as many different lines as possible and have representation from Henkel, Repashy, de Vosjoli, LAC Herps, Geckogen, The Gecko Geek, and others.

If you're interested or have questions about the group, please email me: [email protected]. My preference would be to send off the entire group together.

Thanks for reading 😀

A few weeks ago, I found a set of eggs that were buried in the substrate of the parents’ enclosure, so I put them in the incubator as I normally do. These eggs were a bit water logged but I’ve seen swollen eggs hatch plenty of times, so I didn’t worry much about it. Yesterday I noticed that one of the eggs had failed and the outer layer of calcium was peeling off the other. I pulled both babies out and they were unlike any other chahoua I’d ever seen.

➡️ The color of both was kind of silver-gray and with very unique pattern.

➡️ Both had white stripes up the sides of their abdomens and under their chins.

➡️ The tails of both geckos were a consistent gold-gray color without much contrast or pattern.

➡️ Both were slightly deformed with kinked tails and curved spines.

➡️ The yolk was completely absorbed by both babies and there was none left in the eggs. Based on their condition, both seemed “ready to hatch.”

I don’t know if their color and pattern have something to do with the fact that these eggs took on a lot of water when they were buried in the parents enclosure before I found them, or if something else is happening here. Just thought they were interesting and wanted to share, even though nature can be cruel at times.

I’ve never seen a Sorak crested gecko in person, but based on photos, these two Chahoua reminded me of Soraks in some ways (color, pattern).

Due to their deformities, neither baby survived 💔

As of now, one baby did not survive and the other is still alive but I do not have high expectations.
