Rose Acres Rescue: The Beginning
Our story started in 2015. We had been living on the farm for about 5 years. The rescue was created to keep from having to surrender dumped animals to the county shelter. Animals were dropped off constantly! The last one was a puppy with painted nails. I was trying desperately to get the rescue going. While the ACO was here to pick her up, I told him that would be the last one. Somehow, some way. I prayed and God opened and closed the necessary doors. Rose Acres Rescue was designated a 501 (c)(3) in July 2015.
The choice was made for Rose Acres Rescue to be an 11th Hour Rescue. 11th Hour means going into pounds when animals are facing euthanasia and save as many as could. Rose Acres Rescue has taken in animals from Albertville, Marshall County, Dekalb County, Calhoun County, Blount County, Greater Birmingham Humane Society, Gadsden, Rainbow City Animal Shelter, Etowah County, Limestone County, and Southside Animal Control. Needless to say, that 10 dog and 10 cat limit lasted about 2 months. Dr. Trapp and I still laugh about that 10 dog/10 cat limit. The rescue journey began and what a journey it has been.

Recognize this handsome fellow? Dune was adopted and then returned after a year for “peeing and ruining everything everywhere”. I guess a severe UTI will do that to a fellow. The heart worms he contracted while adopted didn’t help anything either. He returned in May and started getting healthy again. He is at Dr. Trapp’s for Heart Worm Treatment today. Then 6 weeks of crate confinement in the House. 6 weeks of keeping Dune calm and relaxed and confined. This is going to be fun. 🤣
The Oreo Memorial Heart Worm Treatment Fund is depleted. We still have Sarabi to treat. If you would like to help with Heart Worm Treatments, you can donate thru:

Treating heart worms is dangerous and expensive.

Chloe has returned to the rescue. The toddler and Chloe couldn’t get along. For safety, Chloe came back to rescue. She will see Dr. Trapp before being made available for adoption. She made herself right back at home. Next to me. She enjoyed the sermon yesterday. Spayed, adult bobtail. Is bossy and keeps the dogs and other cats in-check.
