The dogs and a few cats have finally used all of the Grizzly Oil. It’s great for disguising pills (Bonds seizure meds), dry coats and getting dogs to eat when appetite off. We go thru a lot of bottles. If anyone would like to donate some, it would be greatly appreciated. (It came routinely in donations from PSP Homewood, now it doesn’t. Another expense added to a very tight budget). Shipping address: 501 Simmons Lane Attalla, AL 35954

John Boy had been to photo pole. He hates the photo pole. I have lots of pics of him laying down. Went for walk. He was tracking something then alerted. We walked elsewhere! He had nose to the ground the entire time. He tracked something and found s**t but no creature. Had to cut walk short due to rain. Normally, he is off leash and follows commands. He likes to explore and run around while his kennel is cleaned.

Haven’t done a behind the scenes of rescue lately! The security cameras alarmed at 2:39 this morning. Looked like a bear (I’m not my best at 2.30 am). Couldn’t figure out why the dogs weren’t barking. This is the bear: Trinity. By time got to another the window, the bear was sitting at back waiting on me to open the door. Trinity is a large, Dutch Shepherd type mix. She has trouble maintaining her weight, high energy, bull headed, kennel and tarp destroying, female dog challenging, loudest dog on face of earth. Despite her size, she is excellent climber. Has the strength of a bull. She’s a little crazy and makes me a little crazy, we have lets contain the crazy talks routinely. 🤣. Her ears were perfect when pulled her, we have no clue what happened to the top of the right one. One day it was just gone. Loves to collect things. You never know what she’ll have in her kennel or on the dog bed. Her obedience skills depend on her mood. She loves to eat. Her diet is constant adjustment based on her weight. She’ll do well on a certain food, even get heavy. Suddenly, she’s skinny and looks like an ASPCA commercial. She has a kennel with reinforced wiring and a customized roof by me. Works great for Trinity and me. I’m 5”. The taller humans don’t enjoy it so much. She is in sanctuary status for a multitude of reasons. Sometimes you connect with a dog and pull it. Even it it has heath issues and is a bit of a handful!

We are back at rescue from Pet Supplies Plus Homewood. Duke was very excited to see the Cat House. Dune and Daphne are eating and relaxing in their outside kennels before coming inside. Dune met lots of new people and dogs. He never meets a stranger. He’s watching Beth buy treats in this picture, of course, Dune and Daphne got one. Dune is a pro at riding. He rode with seatbelt attached to harness. Since this was Daphne’s first big trip, she rode in crate. Once inside store, she was very reactive to people and dogs, including barking and raising hackles, staring at arriving dogs and bouncing crate. With corrections and praise, including starting over after a customer praised her bad behavior, Daphne ended the event like a pro. She ignored, watched quietly or sniffed arriving dogs. She stopped barking and jumping. She accepted treats and scratches from customers politely. Daphne positioned herself in a down in the crate between treats calmly. She even walked thru the sliding automatic door without issue. Daphne is ready for adoption but will need more training. Dune is listed on adoption sites but seems to prefer the rescue and people he knows. As of right now, Dune will need a home with other dogs and/or children. No firm decisions have been made about Dune. After 2 failed adoptions and the valuable input of his last adopters, it may be in Dune’s best interest to stay here. $5 in donations were received. The $50 gift card was used to purchase 2 Large bottles of Nature’s Miracle Stain & Odor Remover. Thank you to the customer that bought the gift card. It was great seeing old friends and meeting new people. Our next Adoption Event at PSP Homewood is February 15.

Dune, Duke and Daphne and the humans are set up at Pet Supplies Plus Homewood. Come meet them.

Dune has returned to the rescue. He completely shut down with his adopters. They were heartbroken but it Dune’s best interest first. He had stopped eating and lay on his bed looking at wall. He perked up as soon as they opened the car door. Dune was well cared for and loved but was miserable. He is second dog to shut down in nearly 10 years of rescue. Decisions about future attempts at adoption will be made later. He is back to his perky self.
