I have a rule that I will only board one family of dogs at a time. Slightly expanded my definition of one family of dogs this week. Left to right: Star and Luna (my sister's), Tansy (my parents'), and Penny (mine). They all know each other and get along, but it will be an interesting couple of days!

Tek and I rescued a baby Eastern Painted Turtle today. He sniffed her curiously but was too polite to try and taste. I took her over to the pond in the park nearby.

Had a scary incident today when I discovered two of my clients had gotten into some poison traps. A trip to the vet and they should be ok thank goodness! But just wanted to remind everyone about the poison control hotline for pets. Just in case. They do charge a fee, but they'll coordinate with your vet and make sure your pet gets the best possible care.

This has come up a couple of times, so here is the Woof Wanderer's Guide to Dog Parks:

1. You are responsible for your dog and their safety. If your dog isn't getting along with others, leave. If another dog is causing problems and not being corrected, leave!

2. Don't let your dog crowd the gate when another one is coming in. It's a great way to start fights.

3. Don't bring your dog if they're showing any signs of being sick

4. Avoid peak times and weekends, those are when problems are most likely to happen.

5. Pick up your dog's p**p. If you can't find it, pick up another pile. Help keep the dog park clean!

6. Don't bring treats. Some dogs are fine until food is involved but once it is, all bets are off. You can't know how the other dogs will react.

It was 3 years ago that I learned there is a pet poison control hotline. If your furry companion has eaten something they shouldn't, call it! They will tell you what to do in the moment and coordinate with the vet as long as the case is open.

Since it came up today, I thought I'd talk a little about the new illness that's been going around with dogs and what I'm doing to protect your pups.

If you hadn't heard, there's a new bug that presents a lot like kennel cough but doesn't respond to the same treatments. As with many illnesses, it can be mild but it can also be potentially fatal.

If your dog has been around other dogs recently and starts to develop a cough, please keep them away from other dogs. If I am visiting and I notice a cough, I will let you know. I also keep disinfectant in my car and spray myself down after any visit with a sick dog. The germs can get on my clothes and I am careful to do my best not to carry an illness to my other clients.

If you're worried about your dog and want to take them to the vet but have to work, please reach out. If I can I am happy to transport your pup for you.

As you may know, my husband and I lost our sweet pup Bluebell in September, breaking our hearts and leaving our house feeling rather empty and lonely. Yesterday we met a dog who is so very much like Bluebell it was like it was fate! Penny is her own self with her own personality, but we are thrilled to add a second anxious failed hunting dog from Kentucky to our family!

I hope that no matter your plans this year you have a wonderful Thanksgiving! And remember, while it's ok to give your pup an occasional scrap of human food, moderation is key and be sure it's something that's safe for them to eat! (No cooked bones for instance)

Long boi Dunkin was a very good guest this week, tho he never quite got used to the turtle (and is tall enough to easily see her). But I also got to spend time with a bunch of my other friends too 🩵

Dunkin did great this morning with his reintroduction to the dog park! He was so happy to see all his friends and very good about not charging straight in and listening when the other dogs set boundaries
