๐ŸŒž๐Ÿพ **Pet Safety Alert: Adjusting Exercise on Hot Days** ๐Ÿพ๐ŸŒž

As the temperatures rise, it's essential to keep our furry friends safe and comfortable. Here are some tips to help you adjust your pet's exercise routine on hot days:

๐Ÿ• **Limit Outdoor Exercise**: Avoid exercising your pet during the hottest parts of the day. Instead, opt for early morning or late evening walks when temperatures are cooler.

๐Ÿš— **Watch Hot Surfaces**: Be cautious of hot pavement and sand, which can burn your pet's paws. Test the pavement with your hand before walking your pet and consider walking on grass or shaded areas.

๐Ÿฅค **Stay Hydrated**: Make sure your pet has access to fresh water at all times. Carry a portable water bowl and encourage your pet to drink frequently to stay hydrated.

๐Ÿก **Indoor Activities**: Consider engaging your pet in indoor activities to keep them mentally and physically stimulated without the risk of overheating. Interactive toys, games, and training exercises can provide a workout in a cool environment.

๐ŸŒฟ **Cooling Measures**: Set up cooling stations with ice packs, cooling mats, or fans to help your pet stay comfortable during hot days.

Remember, your pet's safety is a top priority. By adjusting their exercise routine and taking precautions, you can ensure they stay healthy and happy this summer! ๐Ÿถโค๏ธ๐ŸŒž

๐Ÿš—โ˜€๏ธ๐Ÿถ Pet Safety Alert: Hot Cars Can Be Deadly ๐Ÿถโ˜€๏ธ๐Ÿš—

As the temperature rises, it's crucial to remember that leaving your furry friends in a hot car can have devastating consequences. Even on a seemingly mild day, the inside of a car can quickly reach dangerous temperatures, putting your pet at risk of heatstroke and even death.

๐Ÿ”ฅ Here are a few important reminders to keep your pets safe:

1๏ธโƒฃ NEVER leave your pet unattended in a parked car, even for a few minutes.
2๏ธโƒฃ Park in shaded areas and use sunshades to help keep your vehicle cool.
3๏ธ Keep plenty of fresh water available for your pet at all times.
4๏ธ If you see a pet in distress inside a hot car, act quickly - contact local authorities or animal control for assistance.

Let's work together to keep our furry companions safe and happy this summer! ๐Ÿพโค๏ธ

๐Ÿถ๐Ÿฑ Did you know that single-celled, microscopic protozoan parasites can also affect your petโ€™s gastrointestinal tract? Here are two common protozoan parasites that can affect your furry friends:

1๏ธโƒฃ Coccidia โ€” Pets usually become infected by coccidia when they ingest a cyst. While coccidia usually donโ€™t cause significant issues for adult pets, the organism can destroy the intestinal lining in geriatric pets, puppies, and kittens, causing mucoid diarrhea, vomiting, and decreased appetite.

2๏ธโƒฃ Giardia โ€” Pets usually become infected by Giardia by ingesting a cyst or drinking contaminated water. Giardia attach to the intestinal wall, and cause damage that usually results in acute, foul-smelling diarrhea. Infected pets typically have excess mucus in their f***s, and the infection can lead to chronic, intermittent diarrhea and weight loss.

If you think your pet may have been exposed to these parasites or is showing signs of illness, contact your veterinarian. With proper diagnosis and treatment, your pet can get back to their happy, healthy self! ๐Ÿฉบ๐Ÿ’Š

Want to keep your pet safe from intestinal parasites? Here are some simple steps you can take: ๐Ÿถ

โ€ข Sanitation - Frequently scoop all f***l matter from your petโ€™s environment.
โ€ข Other pets - Do not let your pet contact other petsโ€™ f***l material.
โ€ข Wildlife - Do not let your pet contact a wild animalโ€™s f***l material, and do not let them eat wild animals.
โ€ข Puppies and kittens - Puppies and kittens should receive an appropriate deworming medication at 2, 4, 6, and 8 weeks of age.
โ€ข F***l exams - All pets should have regular f***l examsโ€”at least once per year for adults, and twice per year for puppies and kittens.
โ€ข Tick preventives - All pets should be given year-round tick preventives, to avoid tapeworm infection.
โ€ข Heartworm preventives - Most heartworm preventives also include protection against intestinal parasites, so all pets should be placed on year-round heartworm prevention. ๐Ÿ’Š

Intestinal parasites can be prevented with a few precautionary measures. Make sure to speak to one of our amazing veterinarians about the best deworming.

โค๏ธ We all want our furry friends to be healthy and happy, but heartworms can be a major obstacle. When a mosquito bites an infected dog, they can ingest heartworm larvae and transmit them to the next pet they bite. In dogs, heartworms can mature to adulthood and cause significant health problems.

While cats are less likely to develop heartworms, the immature heartworms can still cause issues. ๐Ÿ˜ข

Protect your pet by taking preventative measures and keeping them safe from mosquitos! ๐ŸฆŸ

Providing year-round heartworm prevention is an important part of your petโ€™s health care plan. If you would like to discuss the various preventives, contact our team by calling (508) 226-8046, so we can determine what protocol would best fit you and your petโ€™s lifestyle.

Owning a pet is like having a personal trainer that doesn't care about your fitness level. They'll always be ready to go for a walk or play fetch, no matter how out of shape you feel. And the best part? They never judge you for taking a break or slowing down. Your furry friend just wants to spend time with you, no matter what.

It's Black fly bite season! ๐Ÿชฐ

With the increase of calls recently for pets with bites, we thought it would be beneficial for a quick post. These pesty insects can attack the belly area, around the eyes of dogs ๐Ÿ• and sometimes cats ๐Ÿˆ . They are sometimes referred to as "black fly bites", they usually appear from May to June, and most instances are harmless. They usually look like a bright red circle with a tiny dot in the center of the ring. You can see one, or possibly many, and are not usually swollen; they may or may not itch. Treatment is not needed, and most times, it will go away on their own. If you are not sure if it is some other type of bite, you can always call ๐Ÿ“ž us and/or send us a picture ๐Ÿ“ธ to determine if your pet needs to be seen. (508)-226-8046

๐Ÿ—๐Ÿฅฆ๐Ÿฅฉ๐Ÿพ Is your pet's diet up to par? Just like with humans, nutrition is essential for our furry friends. After checking your pet's body condition score, take a closer look at what they're eating.

Does their food contain high-quality ingredients like lean proteins, complex carbs, and healthy fats? Or do they eat a "junk food" diet full of sugar and empty calories?

๐Ÿ•๐ŸŸ๐Ÿฆ Even small treats can add up quickly and provide little to no nutritional value.

๐Ÿถ๐Ÿฑ Evaluate your pet's daily diet to see if it needs adjusting. And don't hesitate to reach out to our team for help.

Choosing the appropriate diet for your pet can be challenging, but we're here to help. Call us at (508) 226-8046 and schedule an appointment to talk to your veterinarian.

Receptionists are a pet family's first and last point of contact during veterinary visits. The communication and care they provide is invaluable. Veterinary receptionists are a key part of pet health care establishments.

We just want to take this opportunity to say thanks to all of our amazing receptionists who are the incredible front of house staff at our vet clinic, who are the unsung heroes of the Veterinary world. Without them, we could not do amazing work caring for animals.

They all are amazing!

Be sure to say "Happy Veterinary Receptionist Week" during the week of April 21-27. Let's show these vital team members that they are appreciated!

To our wonderful clients,

We are approaching almost a year since launching our new hospital software. With this launch came with the lack of ability to send post card reminders. All reminders are sent either via text or email. If you haven't come in recently or reached out to us to update your information please call the office at 508-226-8046 with your current email and cell phone number so you can receive your pet's reminders. We are working tirelessly with a third party to be able to offer post card options. Please be patient and hopefully we will have that option soon.

Best regards,

Jenny-Practice Manager
