🚗☀️🐶 Pet Safety Alert: Hot Cars Can Be Deadly 🐶☀️🚗

As the temperature rises, it's crucial to remember that leaving your furry friends in a hot car can have devastating consequences. Even on a seemingly mild day, the inside of a car can quickly reach dangerous temperatures, putting your pet at risk of heatstroke and even death.

🔥 Here are a few important reminders to keep your pets safe:

1️⃣ NEVER leave your pet unattended in a parked car, even for a few minutes.
2️⃣ Park in shaded areas and use sunshades to help keep your vehicle cool.
3️ Keep plenty of fresh water available for your pet at all times.
4️ If you see a pet in distress inside a hot car, act quickly - contact local authorities or animal control for assistance.

The US National Weather Service Boston MA has issued a ‼️Heat Advisory‼️ beginning Tuesday 6/18/24 12:00PM through Friday 6/21/24 7:00PM.

These hot summer days are bringing record breaking temperatures. Be mindful of how hot the ground is while walking your pet! Their paw pads can burn and be incredibly painful!

🐶🐱 Did you know that single-celled, microscopic protozoan parasites can also affect your pet’s gastrointestinal tract? Here are two common protozoan parasites that can affect your furry friends:

1️⃣ Coccidia — Pets usually become infected by coccidia when they ingest a cyst. While coccidia usually don’t cause significant issues for adult pets, the organism can destroy the intestinal lining in geriatric pets, puppies, and kittens, causing mucoid diarrhea, vomiting, and decreased appetite.

2️⃣ Giardia — Pets usually become infected by Giardia by ingesting a cyst or drinking contaminated water. Giardia attach to the intestinal wall, and cause damage that usually results in acute, foul-smelling diarrhea. Infected pets typically have excess mucus in their f***s, and the infection can lead to chronic, intermittent diarrhea and weight loss.

If you think your pet may have been exposed to these parasites or is showing signs of illness, contact your veterinarian. With proper diagnosis and treatment, your pet can get back to their happy, healthy self! 🩺💊

Want to keep your pet safe from intestinal parasites? Here are some simple steps you can take: 🐶

• Sanitation - Frequently scoop all f***l matter from your pet’s environment.
• Other pets - Do not let your pet contact other pets’ f***l material.
• Wildlife - Do not let your pet contact a wild animal’s f***l material, and do not let them eat wild animals.
• Puppies and kittens - Puppies and kittens should receive an appropriate deworming medication at 2, 4, 6, and 8 weeks of age.
• F***l exams - All pets should have regular f***l exams—at least once per year for adults, and twice per year for puppies and kittens.
• Tick preventives - All pets should be given year-round tick preventives, to avoid tapeworm infection.
• Heartworm preventives - Most heartworm preventives also include protection against intestinal parasites, so all pets should be placed on year-round heartworm prevention. 💊

Intestinal parasites can be prevented with a few precautionary measures. Make sure to speak to one of our amazing veterinarians about the best deworming.

❤️ We all want our furry friends to be healthy and happy, but heartworms can be a major obstacle. When a mosquito bites an infected dog, they can ingest heartworm larvae and transmit them to the next pet they bite. In dogs, heartworms can mature to adulthood and cause significant health problems.

While cats are less likely to develop heartworms, the immature heartworms can still cause issues. 😢

Protect your pet by taking preventative measures and keeping them safe from mosquitos! 🦟

It's Black fly bite season! 🪰

With the increase of calls recently for pets with bites, we thought it would be beneficial for a quick post. These pesty insects can attack the belly area, around the eyes of dogs 🐕 and sometimes cats 🐈 . They are sometimes referred to as "black fly bites", they usually appear from May to June, and most instances are harmless. They usually look like a bright red circle with a tiny dot in the center of the ring. You can see one, or possibly many, and are not usually swollen; they may or may not itch. Treatment is not needed, and most times, it will go away on their own. If you are not sure if it is some other type of bite, you can always call 📞 us and/or send us a picture 📸 to determine if your pet needs to be seen. (508)-226-8046
