I love evening walks. You can see me using leash pressure to help Billy stay in position with a some light directional cues and a U-turn when she gets too far ahead.The moment she follows the pressure and finds the right position, the leash goes slack. Over time this builds better focus, engagement, and calmness on leash.

Shadow has spent so much of her life in a constant state of constant overexcitement that focusing on anything can feel impossible for her. For dogs like Shadow, learning how to relax and tune in takes time. She’s not just learning new skills, she’s learning how to learn.

That’s why even something as simple as following a gentle downward leash cue into a “down” is a huge win worth celebrating.

Billy is a young, high-energy dog starting our two week leash training progra. We’ve started her on the figure-8 leash and one of our foundation drills, the u-turn. This is usually the very first leash skill I teach because it helps dogs understand how to yield to leash pressure instead of resisting it while also encouraging them to stay engaged with their handler.

Join Us for a Pack Walk THIS SUNDAY

Our upcoming pack walk designed to help dogs and their owners build confidence, improve leash skills, and practice socialization in a safe and structured environment. This is a great opportunity to reinforce training and develop your dog’s focus in a public settings. All friendly, leashed dogs are welcome.

Arrive a bit early if you have questions about tools to use, or want to try one of our tools or discuss training.

This cute and crazy gal is Bella! Bella started our two week leash work program this week. We’ve been focusing on helping her settle in, getting her comfortable with our transitional leash, and introducing her to the concept of leash pressure. Bella came to us as a chronic leash biter, but with patience and counter-conditioning she’s finally starting to make some really nice progress.
