We are pleased to announce that applications are now open for those interested in adopting a Persian cat.

We will be accepting applications for these four cats only until 12:00 PM on Saturday, September 27th.

To be considered, you must complete two applications:

✅ Our regular adoption application

✅ A supplemental Persian cat application

You may:

Pick up both applications in person at 2150 Shuttle Drive, Atwater, or

Email us at [email protected]
to request and complete them electronically.

On your application, you must specify which ONE of the four cats you are interested in adopting.

Once applications close, we will carefully review them with the cat’s best interest in mind. After sorting, applicants will be entered into one of four drawings—one drawing for each cat currently available.

📺 An Instagram Live drawing will be held on Tuesday, where the winners will be announced. Winners will also be contacted by phone in case they are unable to watch the live event.

Please remember, these cats have come from a very difficult situation and will require extra patience, care, and love compared to a typical rescue animal.

We truly appreciate the community’s support and patience as we work to give these Persian cats the second chance at life they deserve.

📞 For further questions, please call us at (209) 385-7436

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Update on Persian Cats in Care at Merced County Sheriff Animal Services Bureau

Merced, CA — The Merced County Sheriff Animal Services Bureau is pleased to provide an update on the Persian cats recently rescued and placed into care. At this time, 32 Persian cats remain at our shelter, where they are receiving daily medical treatment, nourishment, and compassionate attention from our staff and veterinary team. Many arrived in need of extensive treatment, and we are encouraged to see their health steadily improving.

We are extremely grateful for the many rescue groups who stepped in to support this effort. The cats who were in the most critical condition have been placed with our trusted rescue partners, where they are now safe and receiving the specialized treatment and resources they deserve. Thanks to this collaboration, every cat rescued is on the path to a brighter future.

In the coming weeks, five of the Persians in our care will be ready for adoption, with more expected to follow as their recovery continues. Because some will require ongoing medical support, we are seeking adopters who can provide both the love and the extra care these cats need.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to our community and rescue partners for their compassion and support. For updates on adoption opportunities and ways to get involved, please follow the Merced County Sheriff Animal Services Bureau on Facebook and other social media platforms. Together, we can ensure these cats find the safe, loving homes they deserve.
