Will it snow? Will it not snow? Who knows! But in case it does please be sure your dogs are prepared with these tips:

Food & Medication - Please make sure you have enough food and medication for your dogs to last for several days after the storm

Water - keep some extra water in hand. Store it in empty gallon jugs, soda bottles, etc.

Sweaters - Most dogs don't tolerate the cold well. Make sure to have a sweater & blankets on hand in case the heat goes out during the storm so your dog can stay warm!

First Aid Kit - Keep a dog first aid kit on hand. If in doubt please always call your vet first but be prepared just in case!

Chew Bones & Puzzle Toys - with dogs spending less time outside to play mental stimulation is a good way to burn off some energy.

Want to get your dog tired before the storm hits? Book them for daycare this Wednesday to tire them out.

Power go out or pipes burst during the storm? We will remain open & will be here to keep your pets safe and warm. We have backups and emergency plans in place should our power, heat, or water fail.

Alejandra one of our pet care counselors is a student at UNT. Along with her group they designed a behavioral health facility. They are presenting their project this week and have finals this week. Please wish Alejandra and her classmates good luck on their finals. Alejandra presented the final project to us yesterday on our lunch break. We here at Canine Cowboy were so impressed with their project. We know they will ace it!! Good luck Alejandra and group members!!

It's Small Business Saturday!! This holiday season we hope that you'll support your local small business. For those that don't know me, I'm Erin, the owner of Canine Cowboy.

I wanted to share with you my small business story. This is me the day I signed the lease for Canine Cowboy's home. 6 years ago I was driving past what is now our building and saw the for lease sign. I ended up signing the lease, giving my landlord every penny I had in my bank account, took out a small personal loan, and maxed out 6 credit cards in order to get Canine Cowboy started. At the time as a single woman, it was next to impossible to get funding for my business. I was told I needed to provide proof of income from a 2nd job, or list my husband as co-signer. What husband? What second job? (taking care of dogs IS a full time job) 👀

But, I wasn't going to let lack of funding stop me from starting my business. Unfortunately, I didn't have any money to hire employees. My parents flew in from out of state and for 3 months helped me get the building set up. They painted, assembled furniture, put up the fence tarp, built dog play equipment, you name it, they did it! I still owe them a few vacations for all their hard work!

For three years I worked every day, 24 hours a day, in order to get Canine Cowboy up and running. I was here all day with the dogs, then also slept here at night with the dogs. I'm a firm believer in having someone with the dogs 24/7 (a majority of boarding facilities don't) - you never know when a medical emergency, or natural disaster will arise. My sister, brother-in-law, nieces, nephews, & a friend helped out when needed and I am so thankful for them.

Finally, 3 years later I was able to afford employees. The first employee I hired, Kaitie, is still here with us today and is part of our overnight staff. We are so thankful for her and all our hard working staff.

Canine Cowboy is not a chain, we are not a franchise. All of the money we make stays right here in our local community. It is NOT sent back to a corporate office. When you shop small your money supports families with children, college students with a dream, & young adults who are getting their first house/apartment.

I share this story with you because there are 1,000s of small business owners out there who have faced similar struggles and triumphs. We are determined to see our businesses succeed but we couldn't do it without our amazing customers. And so, this small business Saturday we hope you will support small businesses and shop small!

We want to thank everyone for stopping by our booth at Denton Dog Days this past weekend. At our booth we had a prize wheel people could spin. Two of our prizes included an entry to win a $50 or $100 gift card. These are the winners! Congrats! We will be reaching out!

To say I’m obsessed with this little cutie patootie is an understatement. I mean just look at him, & his little side tongue 🤩

Koda is moving to North Dakota. Cue the ugly crying. Yesterday our daycare dogs made her a paw print board to remember them by. We will always love you Koda & hope you come back to visit us someday 🩷
