This week we honor FDNY Engine Company 10, Ladder Company 10's the "Ten House Bravest" who gave their lives so that others could live on September 11, 2001.
The Ten House is located across the street from where the World Trade Center towers stood and it is the only fire station located inside Ground Zero. On that blue sky morning of September 11th, the firefighters of the Ten House started their shift as they did any other day. At the first moment of the attack, these men jumped into action only to find the sky had turned black and debris was raining down on the street in front of them. They were the first to respond, and by the end of that morning they had lost these men: Lieutenant Gregg A. Atlas, Firefighter Paul Pansini, Lieutenant Stephen G. Harrell, Firefighter Sean P. Tallon, Firefighter Jeffrey J. Olsen and Captain (Ret.) James J. Corrigan.
When the burnt wreckage of Ladder 10 was eventually found, it was buried beneath 40 feet of rubble. Each of these men are the true embodiment of selfless service, upholding the finest traditions of the FDNY: bravery, honor and call to service.
In honor of their service and sacrifice, and in memory of all those that were lost on September 11th - and in the years after due to illnesses related to the rescue and recovery efforts following that day - we are sending a very special Coffee Mission to the present-day officers and members of The Ten House in New York.
We will never forget.
