So much work goes into getting a dog to be this relaxed at the groomer. I am so proud of the energy I have created in my salon and the results speak for themselves. But we can’t do our part without the pet parents help. We are a team to provide the best care for your pet.
So here are some tips to ensure your new dog enjoys their trips to the groomers:
1. Take them as early as you can. Preferably as soon as their have had their second set of shots.
2. The first few grooms are just introductions. Don't go there expecting a whole new look for your dog, the haircuts will start properly once they are ready.
3. We don't want to scare them, we want them to enjoy it and keep wanting to come back. We want it to be a positive experience, this is why we take our time on the big dog stuff like full haircuts.
4. Don't listen to your breeder if they tell you that they won't need a groom for 6 months. By this age, they have learnt fear, anxiety. Its the same as bringing a 7 yesr old dog for their first ever groom. It wont be pretty. Whereas, puppies love all new things. It needs to be a normal part of life.
5. Don't fuss too much on drop off, if they can sense your nervous they will pick up on it and think of grooming as something to fear.
6. Make sure you pick the right dog salon/groomer. I have had some dogs who prefer a busier salon than mine and get more done to them that way. And vice verse, ive had dogs who prefer 1-2-1 and are too nervous with other dogs in sight. It's each to their own!
7. If you commit to grooming your dog at home, be sure that your making that a life long commitment to your dogs life. They will get used to this and it will make it very difficult when introducing them to a groomer they don't know and a salon environment with all new sounds and surroundings.
8. Regular trips are a must. Don't have a puppy groom and then leave it 7 months to the next one, they should be frequent and on a routine. I have my clients start on a 4 week schedule for the first year. This allows me the time to build a relationship so I can communicate with that dog.
9. Communicate with your groomer of any concerns you have, respect them and their time. Value their opinions on a suitable cut etc. They are there to help and advise and we only want what is best for your puppy. Every dog is different and needs different routines.

KEEP THEM SAFE
Like many Americans, now that things are opening up, you may be planning a fun Memorial Day weekend, complete with barbecue, fireworks and friends or maybe a trip out of town. More dogs are lost, frightened, and stressed during holidays and special events in which fireworks are used in celebration than any other time of the year. Normally calm, confident, relaxed dogs are often reduced to trembling, terrified, panicked pups as a barrage of pops, bangs, and explosions goes on, sometimes for hours. When spooked, dogs often bolt, running away to escape the blasts. Each year, hundreds of dogs never make it back home again.

While many people relax after the holiday festivities or prepare to go back to work or start school, others spend the day searching desperately for their lost pets — dogs who, frightened by holiday festivities escaped the yard, or indoor-outdoor cats who usually come inside when called but are nowhere to be found after the neighbor’s late-night firecracker marathon.

Holiday weekends see a huge increase in missing/lost dogs and even death. In order to prevent your celebration from turning into a tragedy, here are some holiday weekend safety tips:

✔Make sure your dog is chipped and your contact info is up to date.

✔Make sure your dog has it's collar on with current tags/contact info. Use a martingale collar so they can't back out of if frightened!

✔Make sure all doors and gates are closed and locked. Party goers may not realize how important it is to keep your dog safe. Put up keep out signs on dog rooms.

✔Make sure your dog wears a seat belt while traveling. You wouldn't want your dog becoming a projectile or running away from an accident. Absolutely do not put them in the back of a pick-up truck!

✔Be careful when traveling out of town. Your dog won't know how to get home if they get loose.

✔Keep an eye on your dog or assign someone you trust to "babysit"--remember your dog is like a toddler. You wouldn't let your toddler be unattended.

✔Have a dog safe holiday weekend!
