We are urgently seeking fosters for our large dogs! We've had 10 dogs come in within 24 hours.
All supplies are included with fostering, and we allow fosters the first option to adopt! There's no timeline required, but ideally we're looking for people willing to house a dog for 1-2 weeks to allow them to decompress and provide us enough time to hopefully get some adopted and clear up kennels.

We would like to introduce Luck. She is currently in a foster home with another cat waiting patiently to meet her forever family.

She is estimated 6 mths old, spayed, FELV/FIV neg with age appropriate vaccines and dewormings.

Her foster has great things to say about her:
"Luck was very calm and chill. She purrs a ton and is an absolute savage for food - ANY food 😂 she doesn't like to cuddle, but will post up nearby and watch from afar. And she is very very vocal! Her meows are very cute and she will make her presence known when she comes out haha. "

To meet her, please submit an adoption application via our website and email [email protected].

Introducing Shaun! 🐱
This sweetheart came in with a severely degloved jaw! We're trying everything to save him (and his lip/jaw), which includes several surgical procedures. Unfortunately, there's no guarantee that the surgeries will be able to save his jaw, but we have to try! We will have a better idea of his healing in roughly 2 weeks when he goes back to the vet.
🐱In the meantime, he needs a foster home! Due to his medical needs, we're looking for an experienced foster who can keep an closer eye on him. We need someone who will promptly alert us, but not panic, if anything happens to his lip while awaiting the vet appointment. If you're interested, be sure to email [email protected] for more information!

Unable to foster but still want to help? We also need monetary donations to help pay for his costly surgeries. We have a few different options for donations as seen below.

With the cold weather approaching, we'd like to take a moment and remind everyone of animal safety with the cold ❄️❄️
If you're able to bring animals indoors, please do so. If you cannot, be sure they have a warm place they can escape the cold winds.
Empty and refill outdoor water containers at least once daily to ensure pets have access to fresh, unfrozen water.
Consider purchasing heat lamps. These do require an electrical source, but they will run for hours and provide much needed warmth and comfort.
Use hay for bedding instead of blankets or other linens. Hay provides better insulation and stays dry for longer

🥳 It’s time for the 2025 introduction 🥳
Hi, my name’s Taylor, and I’m the Foster Coordinator here at CARE Humane Society!
If you remember my intro last year, my life looks completely different now. A brief rundown of my 2024 - I lost my dad and my grandmother, I got divorced, and (of all things) I broke my elbow. Yeah, the elbow was substantial enough to mention 😅. I now have 4 dogs in my little mini herd. Also, I’m currently pregnant with a sweet baby girl due in just a few months! Onto the things that haven’t changed - my love and passion for this place, my sincere gratitude for our community, and general love for the animal welfare world. I cannot begin to express my deep appreciation for everyone who fosters, interacts with our posts, or simply takes a moment to read our posts and pleas. We’ve grown tremendously this year, and now have 1100 active fosters! 🤯 I cannot wait to see what 2025 holds for us as a community. Happy New Year everyone! 🎆🐾

Gizmo is in need of a foster home with no other animals! This sweet boy is adoption pending (so he’s not currently available for adoption), but he’s beginning to show signs of kennel cough. Being in the overcrowded shelter only makes these symptoms and sickness worse! He has a pending neuter appointment on the 2nd, so ideally, he only needs a foster until Tuesday. Email [email protected] for more info

We have 3 dogs that are currently adoption pending in the shelter. This means they have a hold placed on them, but they cannot be finalized until after they are spayed/neutered. We’ve had a few cases of Kennel Cough recently, and we’d like to keep these animals safe and healthy until their appointment. Please reach out if you’re interested in fostering one until their surgery - likely in a few days.
Please know, these animals are not currently available for adoption. Pictured is one of the three in need 🐾

Who wouldn’t want to ring in the new year cuddling with a dog? Dogs get very anxious sitting in a kennel when no one’s around.. Add loud fireworks that will inevitably go off, and the dogs are sure to be very upset and scared! Why not help comfort them by letting them decompress on a comfy couch instead? Email us at [email protected] to get started 🎉🎉🎉

Edited to add: owners have come forward and signed the proper release form. Gizmo and Zoey are still not quite ready for adoption yet due to medical issues

Gizmo and Zoey need fosters! They were recently abandoned at our facility, and they are not doing well here. Due to them being dumped, they are a pending court case and are NOT AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION. Please email [email protected] with any questions. These two do not have to go into the same foster home.

We do have police involved in the abandonment charges, so if the owners see this, please come forward and sign the release forms so they can be made available for adoption. If their owner(s) do come forward, the charges will be dropped.

Reminder: In Alabama, abandoning a pet is a criminal act and is considered cruelty to animals.
Abandonment is defined as neglecting or refusing to care for an animal, or forsaking it entirely. It can also include failing to provide food, water, shelter, or medical care.
Abandoning a pet is a Class A misdemeanor under Alabama Code Section 13A-11-240(b). The punishment for a first conviction of cruelty to animals is a fine of up to $3,000, up to six months in jail, or both.

With Christmas a little over ONE WEEK away, we are stressing to get these dogs a temporary home for the holidays! They deserve to relax for a few days in a less stressful environment! If you aren’t familiar with our holiday process - staff is here for very minimal amounts of time, so these dogs will spend close to 50 hours in their kennels! We come in to clean and walk everyone twice a day, but that’s not nearly enough outside time! Please reach out if you’re able to foster a dog during the holiday (or longer). All supplies are included! Fostering is entirely free!
Please email [email protected] for more information

🚨 We Need Your Help 🚨

Right now, we’re caring for 204 animals, including over 60 fragile puppies. These little ones have incredibly weak immune systems, and our staff is working overtime to protect them. With so many animals, we are stretched thin on supplies, space, and hands to help.

🐶 Foster: We urgently need fosters for adult dogs and (most importantly) puppies. We’ll provide supplies as long as we have them!
🐶 Donate: We’re raising funds to cover the cost of transporting a litter of puppies to a rescue in NJ, where they’ll have a chance at safe, healthy lives. We also have our Purina Puppy Chow quickly dwindling and adult dog food as well.
🐶 Adopt: Looking for a new best friend? Our Empty the Shelters adoption specials mean you can bring home a pet for $0 to $50.
