From race horses, to race... dogs! Well, retired ones, anyway. Cooper here is a retired racing Greyhound with lower back pain and hindend weakness. It is getting more difficult for him to hold up his very muscular physique, but don't worry... we are here to help!

Cooper laid on his own couch to enjoy his electroacupuncture session this past week. Happy to report, he is already feeling better! Although his racing days are behind him, it's obvious his pampering days are not. See you again soon, Coop!

We were lucky enough to travel to Virginia earlier this week to receive additional training in equine acupuncture. This gorgeous gal enjoyed her morning session after her race track workout. In a few days, she will be ready for her next big race! It was a beautiful morning of fall weather and a plethora of horses 🐴

Over two days, we worked on 18 equine friends! We treated all types of lamenesses (both obvious and more subtle), preventive care to help horses that experience high exercise load (like Vow here), and aging changes in our more geriatric horses. Who needs a spa day when you have needles? (Can you spot them?)

Rocky, the cutest boy around, gets monthly treatments for his sore hips so he can continue to participate in all of his sporting events and we get to indulge in some quality time. He's living proof that acupuncture is not just for our older friends!

Chip says "Sometimes you just have to take all your clothes off to get comfortably acupunctured!" 🤣 (Don't worry, his little shoes stayed on the whole time)

Chip, a 14-year-old Schnauzer, suffers from a variety of Issues including diabetes, cardiac issues, arthritis, seizures, and general aging changes. We were able to help Chip feel better within minutes! He was a sweet old man and I look forward to many more visits with Chip 💕!

One of my favorite parts of my job (besides loving on these babies... peep the smooch 😘 between me and Duke!) is owners informing me how much BETTER their pets feel almost immediately after their very first round of acupuncture. 💉

Meet Duke. He's a Doberman recently diagnosed with Dilated Cardiomyopathy (a common heart condition in this breed). They tend to have decreased appetite and energy, lose muscle mass, etc. as the disease progresses quickly in most cases. Duke's owner told me that the evening and morning after his very first acupuncture session, he ate his entire meal with gusto and has felt much better since that dry needling session. We were able to use points to stimulate appetite, boost energy, relieve pain, and improve heart function. We will be back to treat him next week to help aid in his quality of life for as long as possible.

Another happy boy getting treated in the comfort of his own home! Look at that smile on Karsten’s face. Karsten is being treated for general aging changes (weakness in rear end, slow to get up, anxiety that worsens at night.). So glad to be a part of a treatment plan that will get Karsten some relief and longevity.

Sweet Windsor wants to wish everyone a happy Memorial Day weekend! 🇺🇸

This 14 year old Cavalier is suffering from a back issue that we are treating with multiple varieties of acupuncture (dry needling, electroacupuncture pictured here) and herbal medication in addition to more traditional pain medication. His owner is doing a great job of getting him relief without surgery which would be risky in Windsor’s case. We know it’s working because on just his second visit what was once a dog only able to use three of his legs, came running to greet me at the door!

Fara and I have one thing in common... neck pain! I understand firsthand what it's like to try to be an athlete with cervical pain... no fun. Fara is a pro at acupuncture treatments and she enjoyed every aspect from start to finish (as you can tell by the "smiles" on our faces).

Working with Fara and her mom Anna Martin was a pleasure and I can't wait for them to return in the fall for more sessions!

Patient spotlight: Meet Monkey! He is a 6 year old Westphalian gelding who suffers from being back sore. His owner, Lydia, is willing to do anything she can to get him some relief! Believe it or not, he was very needle-shy in the beginning of the treatment and had his head so high I had to get a stool to reach. However, the effects of well-placed needles even the most headstrong horse friends can't resist!😁

You can see after we got our treatment going, he completely relaxed for the entirety of the treatment including electroacupuncture (see in comments!). When we re-scanned his sore areas after the needles were removed, he was no longer sore anywhere along his back. He was even standing more normally in the stall after our session. The effects seen by his owner were immediate. I look forward to working with Monkey and his mom, Lydia again soon.

Lots of great patients this week! Meet Pepper (and Dr. Johnson her vet mama!). Pepper was recently diagnosed with a type of aggressive bone cancer called Osteosarcoma. We treated Pepper after her recent leg amputation to help with her mobility, pain relief, relaxation and appetite.

There is research and information published about how pets with cancer can live longer and happier lives if using an integrative approach (traditional Chinese medicine such as acupuncture paired with surgery and/or chemotherapy.) In this case — up to 3x as long vs surgery and chemo alone. Follow along for updates on sweet Pepper!!

Billy was the most handsome and well behaved gentlemen for our acupuncture session this week. He thoroughly enjoyed his needling and electro ... so much so that he took a nap!

Billy is currently being treated for anhidrosis (non-sweating) among some other ailments. By the time we finished our session, his skin was already damp -- hooray!

We love our clients and can't wait to return to Billy's barn in the next couple of weeks.

Kip was the best boy for his acupuncture appointment earlier this week! While acupuncture can be used to help treat certain diseases or conditions, it can also be beneficial in preventing future issues. In this case, we are trying to give Kip some pain relief so he can thrive in his daily life as a dock jumping and barn hunt champion as well as an elite Nosework dog.
