Rajah is currently in foster care along with his friend, Remi. Rajah is a gorgeous and friendly guy who has been great with all people and has also been good with children. He loves tennis balls and enjoys playing fetch. We can’t believe Rajah is still with us as he’s such a friendly boy and gets along with all people. He also settles well and enjoys napping with Remi. Rajah has been a great houseguest with his fosters. In typical German Shepherd fashion, he does have a lot to say when he sees other dogs on walks, and he’d prefer to stay home in his yard playing ball. Rajah’s ideal home would be with a family who has a large, fenced-in yard where he could relax and enjoy play time. Rajah can be adopted with his friend Remi as a 2 for 1 special or he can be adopted separately. All adoptable animals from AVHS are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and microchipped. As part of the #ClearTheShelters event, adoption fees for adult large breed dogs & adult cats are HALF OFF through Aug 31, 2024 at AVHS! We are open 7 days a week, 11am-6pm and can facilitate meet and greets with on-site dogs from 11am-5pm. Adoptions wrap up at 5:30pm each day. Agent arrived in May in poor condition, requiring a tail amputation. He was shut down and terrified in the shelter environment. He was somewhat handleable by our staff, but we knew, based on his behavior, that he would be happiest if he had access to the outdoors. By July, he was adopted! One of the family members in his new home has allergies, but they still wanted a kitty in their lives. Agent turned out to be the perfect match! He now has his own treehouse and gets to roam his property and relax in the sun, all while being loved and cared for by his new family. Talk about a fairytale! Special thank you to Agent’s family and Barn-Cats-R-Us for helping to place barn cats like Agent! As part of the #ClearTheShelters event, adoption fees for adult large breed dogs & adult cats are HALF OFF through today, Aug 31, at AVHS! All adoptable animals from AVHS are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and microchipped. Walk-ins are welcome! We are open 7 days a week, 11am-6pm and can facilitate meet and greets with on-site dogs from 11am-5pm. Adoptions wrap up at 5:30pm each day.

Remi is ready to clear the shelter! Adoption fees for adult large breed dogs & adult cats are HALF OFF through Aug 31, 2024 at AVHS! Remi is a friendly German Shepherd Dog who came to the shelter with her friend Rajah. Both dogs are enjoying their time in a foster home currently and their foster says they are lovely houseguests. In typical shepherd-fashion, she sometimes has a lot to say when she sees other dogs out on walks. Remi is happiest hanging with Rajah and her foster family in the backyard with some tennis balls or jolly balls. Banzai is a special gal who has really come out of her shell in the time that we have known her. Banzai can be a little slow to warm up to new people and has shown a lot of improvement with making fast friends with new folks. Banzai is affectionate and playful with people. She absolutely loves playing fetch with tennis balls but also enjoys a good tug session with a plush toy. She can be super goofy and fun to play with. Banzai is a sensitive dog who can be easily overwhelmed in a busy environment. Her ideal family would have a fenced-in yard and be a quieter space. She’s a homebody and would love to lounge on the couch and watch Netflix with you after a play session. Banzai has met children and done well with them with slow and respectful introductions. Banzai is currently in foster care - reach out ot our front desk team to set up a meeting with her. All adoptable animals from AVHS are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and microchipped. Meet Tony Lazuto! He is a cute, 3-year-old Boston Terrier. Tony is a bit nervous and has been sensitive about handling at the shelter. He’s a laidback guy who is looking for a calm family. Tony would like a family who can be respectful of his handling preferences and read his body language. We are recommending a teen/adult only home for Tony. He is currently in foster care. Annie came to us back in February, in rough shape. She came in with extensive wounds on her face, shoulder, and leg. She also had a broken leg. Our vet team used radiographs via our X-Ray machine to determine that she needed to have her leg amputated. After the surgery, she went to one of our lovely foster’s homes to heal up and get all the love! Two months after her arrival, she was adopted! Her new family says she is doing fantastic and has adjusted just fine to her new three-legged life! We are so happy for Annie and her new family! 👉 We rely heavily on our X-Ray Machine to help diagnose animals like Annie. We recently had to replace our X-Ray machine and are hosting an online auction to help cover some of the costs associated. Join us for the online auction now through August 24 with item pickup available on the 24th and 25th. Found a stray animal? Follow these steps to help get them back home! 1- If it is safe to do so, check for name tags, a number written on the collar, or license tags. If an animal has an Auburn license tag, you can call our shelter to see if we have owner information.
Walk them around the area they were found. Often, they are very close to home! Knock on doors and see if neighbors recognize them. 2- Take a picture of the animal and note the street they were found on – this is very important! Post on Facebook Lost Pets Groups, NextDoor, the Ring app, and any local community pages. 3- Take the animal to get scanned for a microchip at either a vet’s office or the closest shelter.
If possible, hold onto the pet. Most animals are reunited within 24 hours. 4- Take the pet to your local shelter. Call ahead to confirm which shelter they need to go to – this is very important and will save a lot of time and stress. However, shelters are very stressful places for animals, so this should always be a last resort. *Feel free to call the shelter at (253) 249-7849 for any lost pet resources or assistance needed for this process. We appreciate our community for looking out for local pets and helping to get them back home! 😊
Meet Grandma Bean! This sweet little lady is a senior gal, looking for a quiet place to call home. She came to us as a stray and has been shy with staff. She is sensitive about handling and is looking for a calm, quiet family who can be respectful of her boundaries. She has been in foster care and done well with the large dog in the home. She is slowly, but surely, learning her new routine! She is also slowly warming up to her fosters and is starting to lay on the couch with them ❤ If you are interested in meeting Grandma Bean, please email us at [email protected] to schedule a meet and greet! #adoptabledogs #adoptable #seniordog #adoptme

Pawpa Rex came to us as a stray, in quite a bit of discomfort in his hips and hind end. Utilizing Fear Free tactics, our vet staff sedated him to provide medical care, including a good brushing and some pain medication to help him feel more comfortable. Fear Free methods mean ensuring safety, predictability, and comfort for patients through understanding body language, safe handling, and using all resources, including sedation, when needed. He woke up the next morning with a pep in his step and we think he is feeling better. This 12-year-old cutie is still looking for his forever home! Email us at [email protected] for more information! Meet and greets 7 day a week, 11am-5pm. All animals adopted from AVHS are spayed/neutered, microchipped, and vaccinated. #adoptable #kingshepherd #fearfree
