Your pet might feel nervous during their veterinary exam as all the poking and prodding might make them feel like they're under attack. These techniques help the vet gain valuable information about your furry friend's health.

From checking their heart, lungs, abdomen, eyes, ears, and mouth, it's essential to keep up with these regular exams. To help your pet feel more comfortable with being examined, practice examinations at home and pair them with plenty of treats and encouragement.

Identifying and eliminating your pet’s trigger is an effective way to reduce excessive barking. To do this, observe your pet’s behavior and determine what environmental stimuli prompt them to bark.

Then, try to change or eliminate the trigger. For example, if your dog barks at people walking by your house, consider blocking their visual access to the window or door, or move their bed to another room.

Similarly, if your dog barks at the sound of the doorbell, try placing a sign on your door asking visitors to text instead of ringing the bell. By eliminating or changing the trigger, you can help your pet feel calmer and reduce their barking.

If your cat suddenly seems to change his mind about the petting, and appears tense, with his ears back and pupils dilated, it’s best to stop and let him be. If you ignore the signals, he may feel trapped, and his only way out may be to defend himself. Remember that cats are individuals with their own preferences and moods.

Watch for his body language and signals, and respect his boundaries. It’s better to end the petting session earlier than risk hurting your cat or straining your relationship.

Did you know that dental treats for dogs are a great way to improve your pup’s oral health? Here are some reasons why:

1️⃣ Dental treats are made specifically to remove plaque buildup and clean your dog’s mouth.

2️⃣ They often contain ingredients that freshen breath and help maintain your pet's oral hygiene.

3️⃣ Dental treats come in a variety of shapes, sizes, and flavors, making it easy to find one your furry friend loves.

4️⃣ They are generally much more appreciated by our dogs than traditional toothbrushes or wipes.

Make sure to choose dental treats that are appropriate for your dog's size and needs. As always, talk to your vet about what dental care routine is best for your furry friend. Happy chewing! 🐾🦷

🐶🐴🐱 Lyme disease can affect humans, horses, and dogs, and although it has never been confirmed in cats outside a laboratory setting, cats should still be considered at-risk as a preventive measure.

Ticks are mobile parasites and can hitch a ride on clothing, bags, or shoes, so all pets—including indoor-only cats—are considered at risk for Lyme disease and should receive year-round parasite prevention.

Learn how to protect your pet and yourself from this debilitating condition by contacting us at (530) 456-7607. Stay informed and keep your furry friend healthy! 🦟

😿 If your cat has been diagnosed with heartworm disease, it's important to know that currently, no approved treatment exists. Management focuses on stabilizing the cat and closely monitoring their condition with frequent chest X-rays.

Steroids may be used to decrease inflammation caused by parasites, and antibiotics may be prescribed to address heartworm's Wolbachia infection, which can contribute to the inflammatory response. The average survival time for heartworm-infected cats is one and a half years. 😢
