Team building exercises!!
This makes me sooo happy! Tracker has accepted Crinkle! We took our time, didn't push, and didn't just let them "work it out."
Lesson #1 at the Scheyhing farm for a little pup is- do not feast on horse poo!
Crinkle got a van ride to the airport pet hotel here in Panama. I won't see her again until I pick her up from the cargo office at LAX tomorrow afternoon.
As a trainer I often hear how people need a dog to meet their needs. I ask what they have done to meet their dogs' needs.
Look at this pup! Just playing, totally unaware her destiny hangs in the balance! Getting an island dog home has proved to be a very challenging, logistical nightmare! Fortunately, for Crinkle and me we have Martin! While vacationing in Germany with his family my awesome husband has performed the miracle of getting this pup home. We hope. Our final itenarary- depart Bonaire on 5/16, stay the night in Curaçao. Then we fly to Panama 5/17 where we will stay the night. Crinkle will sleep at the airport quarantine facility. Then we catch a flight to LAX 5/18, get through customs, rent a car and drive the 9+ hours home. We can't fly to SFO because the only flights coming from Panama are after hours for cargo services. It has been an emotional roller coaster for the entire family. Martin's parents have generously sponsored Crinkle's journey home. We are truly Blessed.
Little Crinkle learning calm gets her the piece of kibble in my hand. It was her first time doing this exercise so I gave her a few clues to make it easier for her to be right! She goes behind me, over me, excitedly seeking out the food. When she waits quietly-winner, winner! As she progresses I get her calmer and calmer, quicker and easier.
Every interaction we have with our dogs is teaching them something about the, something about us. What are you teaching your dog?
