Woke up to the sound of teeth on plastic, like one of the dogs was chewing on the plastic crate trays.

It drove me nuts, trying to figure out which dog was doing it.

I pottied everyone at 5am, the sound kept going. Fed everyone, the sound kept going. I finally tracked it down and it was coming from inside the trash can.

Danny had brough a dead baby possum inside Saturday night, I took it from him and put it in the trash can. It is now Monday morning, and the thing is alive, trying to eat its way out of the trash can. 🙄

I'm a grumpy sleep deprived person today 😤

Happy Mother's Day to all the mamas out there, and a special tribute to our chosen mothers - the ones who didn't give us life, yet choose to breathe life and love into us 💞

We couldn't get out mother on a plane from Samoa, we're grateful to our aunt and 2nd mom for being present in her stead.

Baby Opal was laid in her final resting place on May 11, 2024, surrounded by her family and loved ones.

Hug your moms and babies for us, we love you all. ❤️❤️‍🩹

Our family gained an angel, her stay with us much too brief.

We ask for some patience these following weeks as our family wades into waters we've never had to navigate before, and thank you everyone who has already shown love and care.

Mama is okay, our hearts are not. It's a special kind of heartbreak when a parent has to bury their child.

Hug your babies for us. 💔❤️‍🩹

Happy 11 years to the bestest boy in the whole wide world!

As is customary every year, we ask that if anyone has ever experienced the blessing that is this dog in their lives, to consider donating to the wonderful people who picked him and his sibling(s) up off a dirt road, where they were dumped in a box.

If your dog has come to me for Aggression and Reactivity, DB has been the first dog they've ever felt safe around, and has taught them to trust other dogs (and me).

This dog has given me 11 years of Love and Adventure, and has healed me in so many ways, his service to me continues to guide my path into serving others.

I love you my boy 🥹
Always and Forever, my DannyBoy❤️🙏🏾

Welcome Mr. Leo!

Leo is here for a Behavior Modification program to address some concerning behavior towards his older [male] housemate.
Looking forward to teaching this big boy how to interact respectfully with others.

A belated Happy New Year to all of our followers and friends!

We'd like to welcome all of our new friends and re-introduce ourselves to those we haven't had the pleasure of meeting.

Hi, I'm Jee, and this is my right-hand man, DannyBoy ☺️

DB came into my life during a time when I was severely struggling with a spinal injury and undiagnosed mental illness after being honorably discharged from the Marine Corps. For those who understand what those trenches feel like, you'd also understand when I say that this dog gave me my life back and saved me from a very dark, very lonely place.

In return I've vowed to give him a full, adventurous and purposeful life and would like to think that I've done a decent job fulfilling and serving his needs as best as I can.

We became a service dog team-in training at 6 months old, he's gone through 4 years of college with me, and will be approaching 11 years together as a working team.

This dog is the epitome of high attunement, mutualism, selfless love and selfless service - he's always somewhere close by, always attuned to my needs, always watching my six, always my silent sentry 🥺

Our bond is an incredibly special one, and it is my dream to help other dogs and owners experience the fullness, richness, and depth of a similar bond based on mutual servitude, mindfulness and respect, and the deepest of love.

We've been training dogs and humans together for almost a decade now, with a special spot in my heart when it comes to helping dogs and humans heal and work through past trauma, "triggers", and come to understand how neurodivergence works. I've spent time as a life skills coach for neurodivergent young adults while in college, have raised and trained service dogs for neurodivergent and disabled handlers, and
am adept in helping both dogs and people learn how to understand each other, to accept and mitigate their "quirks" to set themselves up for success.

I look forward to helping you reach your goals, and thank everyone who has trusted me to guide them along their own personal growth and journey thus far.

And remember: Don't complain about the results you didn't get from the work you didn't do. 😉

See you in class!

Update on our lil street fighter from Mexico 🫴🏾

Slow and steady progress, slow and steady progress.

Back story:
Someone went on vacation to Mexico and developed an attachment with little Cenote here, the "Good Samaritan" decided to uproot this little guy's entire world (he's ~5+yrs) thinking that they could give him a better life.

If I was an old war vet street dog living in Mexico, I'd be livid about this weather and having to live my life on a leash too.

A friendly reminder that if you're visiting other countries to not feed the local wildlife - including street dogs/cats. If you choose to and they end up following you everywhere, please do not project your human desire onto them and think you'd be doing them a favor bringing them into a lifestyle they never asked for and you weren't prepared for.

Cenote ended up on Craigslist and is here for an Aggression Rehab program to help assimilate him to city life and hopefully find him a forever home (he'd prefer a ride back to Mexico).

From exploding at dogs within a 2 block radius to being able to let another [calm] dog pass by on the same sidewalk, I'd say we're making slow and steady progress. Rooting for this dog 🫶🏾

here with some holiday tips:

Tis the Season...

Where a lot of dog bites happen. 😱

As holiday festivities start ramping up, the chaos of family members coming together will often become the perfect recipe for disaster.

Too much chaos leads to anxious/overstimulated dogs that can redirect onto people/other animals.

How do we help mitigate this?

⭐ Back-tether on PLACE

👉for our folks who already have decent Place skills. Your dog likely doesn't get to practice place around a lot of bodies and movement, so assume your dog will be opportunistic and will pounce to eat the Thanksgiving turkey when your back is turned.
My own personal dog (DannyBoy) will sometimes dig in the trash for all the goodies, so he either gets crated or we make sure the trash gets taken out.

⭐CRATE

👉 use it generously and unapologetically. While it's easy to project our human desire to have our dog be around our family, if you're not mentally ready to micormanage and monitor your dog's every move, it's best to crate your dog so your brain can relax and you can be more present with your family. I promise it's not worth the outrage, anger, and guilt you'll feel when you're yelling at your dog for doing something you could've prevented by simply crating up.

⭐USE YOUR LEASH

👉Your leash is your best tool. Your leash is your best friend. Leash your dog when it's out of the crate, in the house, and yes, even in the backyard if you've got the kids and family out there.

If you cannot guarantee that your dog will perform on point, assume they'll struggle and be ready just in case.

Meet "Arya", lovingly referred to ask the queen of darkness by some of her people 😂

If you have an obnoxious dog with little to no regard for personal boundaries, chances are he/she will meet little Arya during their stay with us.

Arya came to us in 2020 for attacking her housemate dog numerous times - turns out she was resource guarding all the spaces because she had free roam of the house and no respect for anyone's boundaries.

Pretty ironic that these days we use her to teach other dogs how to respect personal boundaries, and she is very good at it 😅

❗Pet Parents!

Our trainer will be out of town June 19-July 1, so if you need those training lessons on the books, contact the Office Team at [email protected] or via text/call at our new office line (425) 318-2560 ☺️

We will still be serving our boarding students, just no training lessons while Miss Jee is out of town.

In the meantime, we're super excited to have our substitute trainer in town to care for all our students.

No one goes to Therapy or Rehab expecting to come out cured in one day.

It's a lengthy, multi-step process that involves peeling back layers and layers of "masking" behavior to address the root and cause of the issue.

It's often an ugly process in the beginning,
with outbursts of defensive anger and the shakes, because now we're tackling things that have been avoided for so long.

Rehab isn't pretty, and the sooner dog owners realize that all of this could be prevented through Structure, healthy boundaries, and valuable consequences for poor and good choices, the better we would all be.

For those out there struggling,
know that we're here ready to help and you don't have to keep living in constant fear of your dog attacking anyone.

Excuse the sports bra in the beginning, it's finally hot in WA and this island girl is soaking it all up 🤣

It's sad seeing the sheer amount of dog owners out there who are more concerned about WHAT their dog(s) can do for their mental health, yet aren't taking the time to learn about WHO their dog is and WHAT their dog(s) require to live healthy and fulfilled lives.

We live in a society where dogs have somehow become encumbered with the responsibility of carrying the emotional load of humans, to the detriment of their own mental health and anxiety.

It's the dog owner who is more concerned about getting 50million hugs, smooches, and couch/bed cuddles than they are concerned about their dog learning the value of healthy boundaries and being calm and secure with being alone away from their humans - thus enabling and perpetuating serious separation anxiety.
Good luck finding anyone willing to care for and watch your dog(s) if anything happens to you.

It's the dog owner who is more concerned about their dog looking "happy" when they're really unnecessarily overstimulated, emotionally reactive, and manic.

It's the dog owner who claims that they love their dog(s), yet feed them crap dog food like Pedigree, Iams, and Purina and hardly ever want to give corrections for behavior that will hinder them from being able to fully enjoy and participate in life activities.

It's the dog owners who aren't willing to do the uncomfortable work now to set their dog(s) up for success in the future, because who knows what life will throw at us.

Don't say you love dogs when you're out here violating their boundaries and not taking the time to learn and understand WHO the dog is and HOW to provide them with what they need to thrive.
