I’m not a suri or a llama breeder but there were some GORGEOUS animals at the Alpaca Fiesta in Arequipa Peru. A llama cria was born AT the show the day we got there….i instantly fell in love 🥰

What an incredible Open Ranch for National Alpaca Farm Days 2024! Thank you to everyone who came out to learn about alpacas, shop the boutique and to create their very own felted craft from our very own fleece. I can’t thank my friends and Reese (and Lester & Cody of course 🥰) for being here to help make this event a success every year ❤️ Missed this event? No worries. This year for NAFD, we are offering a fun and unique craft activity. Come on out and needle-felt an alpaca from fleece shorn from our very own herd. Don’t want to make an alpaca? No problem! Bring your own cookie-cutter and felt that design instead. Fun for ALL ages.

This picture does not seem like much but it’s actually a big deal. If you’d been to my ranch, you’ve heard me talk about the big brown alpaca that you’ll never get close enough to touch. Well….I’ve been working with her for awhile and now I can walk by and touch her but the BIG moment is this! Right before I took this picture, the big brown female kushed up against the skinny old white female who is weak and ill. This allowed the white female to be balanced enough to graze comfortably and remain out with the herd 🥰

My boys crack me up. My barn manager lets the alpacas into the barn while mucking stalls. Xingu takes it upon himself to climb over the hay piles to have a private feast while Blanc lays in the middle of the hay to detour his herd-mates from eating “his” food 🤣😂🤣😂

Angel’s Envy alerting me and the herd to the vultures up on the road. When the dogs aren’t out, the alpacas have their alert aka eek that they do to let their herdmates know that there is a threat or something out of the ordinary around them. Typically the herd will come together into a group as their way to protect themselves from a threat. TURN UP THE SOUND #theprotectionofaherd #alpacaeek #alpacasareherdanimals

I check on my alpacas daily but on excessively hot days like today, I check on them continually and do what I can to keep them as cool & comfortable as possible. To do this I make sure they have fresh cool water, I spray them down, I turn on the misters, ceiling and floor fans all day long. Seeing them kushed and chewing their cud gives me such relief that they are comfortable and not stressed. ❤️ #keepingpacascomfortable #stressandheatkill #isitreallyoctober #readyforfall

This video may not look like much but it’s actually incredibly telling. The brown female has positioned her exactly where she needs to be so she can keep an eye on her herd (that are freaking out about the neighbor’s cat walking the fence line) AND the single ailing alpaca that is still in the barn area under the overhang. The ailing alpaca is too weak to graze with the herd but as you can see, her herd-mate makes sure to keep an eye on her. 🥰 When I can’t live them any more ….they do something like this ❤️ #alpacalove #alpacaloyalty #alpacaprotection
