Dr. Genett, Dr. Frerch, Dr. Schwab, Sam and everyone at Metropolitan who helped care for our beloved Eddie -
We don’t have words to adequately thank you for the amazing care you provided to Eddie after he was tragically hit by a car while staying with a dog sitter and sustained injuries that he wasn’t able to survive. We felt as if Eddie was the only dog you were caring for. From the very first call we received from the hospital, as we rushed to get on a flight home to get there, we were shown compassion and care that was above and beyond. You communicated with us and ensured us that Eddie was comfortable and being well cared for while we traveled home to be with him when he passed. For that we will be forever grateful.
Eddie was the love of our lives and our hearts will never fully heal.
Please know that you all played a role in making the worst day of our lives a little bit more manageable.
With much gratitude and love

Yennifer is a Highlander Lynx cat who was born in July of 2024. She was originally evaluated at six months of age by Metropolitan's Emergency service on January 22nd for decreased energy and appetite and she had been struggling to gain weight at home. She had blood work with her primary veterinarian previously which had shown that she was anemic and she had a high globulin level. Globulin levels reflect antibodies in the blood stream and are commonly increased with inflammation, infection, or rarely with certain types of cancer.

Her care was transferred to Dr. Kristin Heft, DACVIM (SAIM) on the Internal Medicine service on January 23rd to further investigation her illness, and an abdominal ultrasound was recommended. Her ultrasound showed enlargement of both of her kidneys with cellular infiltrates under the capsule of the kidneys. Yennifer was sedated to perform ultrasound-guided fine needle aspirates of her kidneys, and the samples were submitted to a pathologist for review of the cell types and also for PCR testing to evaluate her for feline infectious peritonitis (FIP), a disease that can occur in some cats infected with feline coronavirus when the immune system reacts inappropriately.

The results of Yennifer's FIP PCR testing returned positive and Yennifer was started on treatment for this disease with a newly approved medicine, GS-441524. Yennifer responded very well to treatment and was able to go home on January 24th. Yennifer's progress has been followed closely by Dr. Heft and the Internal Medicine team at Metropolitan, and she completed treatment for FIP at the end of April. Yennifer's blood work normalized with treatment and her weight has more than doubled! She will be monitored for relapse closely over the next several months, but we are thrilled with her progress and happy she can enjoy her kittenhood at home with her family and feline friends.

Plus … check out those beans ❤🐾 so many and so cute! They make her extra special!!

Metropolitan Veterinary Associates is one of those places you don't ever want to visit, but when you have to, you are so glad they're there. Metro Vet has the best staff. From the receptionists checking you in, the nurses and doctors taking care of your pet and everyone in between. The professionalism, knowledge, and quality of care for both you and your pet are top-notch. I'm so glad they are available to assist when we need them.
I also wanted to give a shoutout to Dr. Kendra Hearon and her team. Dr. Hearon did a beautiful job with the incisions, and they are as minimal as possible in a tough spot - his leg. Their professionalism and creativity regarding post-care of my dog was very much appreciated. He's a dog that must be put under for a routine exam. When we came in for our post-visit, they didn't want to give him additional drugs for something quick. They came up with the solution to see if a massive amount of peanut butter would distract him enough to get the job done - and it did! It was greatly appreciated that they thought of the solution that could benefit my pet and get their job done.
