What if the collar you bought helped a shelter dog find their forever home?

Today, I’m so excited (and honestly a little emotional) to finally share 'Wild Hearts; Warm Homes.' with you—a program that’s been quietly growing in my heart for years.

This isn’t just about collars. It’s about connection. It’s about giving overlooked and misunderstood dogs the chance to be truly seen, known, and loved for who they are. For so many shelter dogs, especially the ones who’ve had a rougher start, finding the right home isn’t about being “good enough.” It’s about someone taking the time to learn who they are—to get to know their quirks, their strengths, and all the love they’re waiting to give.

The idea for this program was born from my time working in animal welfare and my own experience with Rebel. Rebel is my reactive dog and has been since she was 6 months old.

She turns 9 today (Happy Birthday, Rebel!). 9 years of navigating life with a dog like her hasn’t been easy... I remember feeling SO overwhelmed at times, questioning if I was the right person for her.

But deep down, I knew she was worth every bit of the work. Every breakthrough, every small moment of trust we built together, reminded me of the incredible bond we created. Dogs like Rebel deserve a chance to shine—to show the world their true hearts—and this program is my way of helping other dogs like her.

How it works:

We partner with local shelters to focus on their most overlooked dogs—dogs who might otherwise be passed over because they have had difficult pasts, etc.

Each dog is photographed wearing two collars: One 'Adopt Me' collar to increase visibility and a second collar chosen by shelter staff best fit for the dog. Once adopted, they leave with their chosen collar and a goodie bag filled with samples from pet industries top brands!

Some ideas take years to grow, fueled by experiences, challenges, and a fire to make a difference. Tomorrow, I’m finally sharing something I’ve been working on that feels like the heart of Katahdin Collar Co.

This idea isn’t the result of a single moment. It’s a reflection of years spent working with dogs. During my time working at a shelter, I had the privilege of meeting many troubled, misunderstood dogs. They were often my favorites. My background as a dog trainer had already shown me that these dogs weren’t “bad”—they just needed the right people.

With Rebel, my own reactive dog, I’ve experienced firsthand how difficult it can be to navigate those challenges. But I’ve also seen how rewarding it is to give these dogs the chance they deserve.

Rebel turns 9 tomorrow 😭 —the same day 'Wild Hearts; Warm Homes.' (.warmhomes) launches—and this program is, in many ways, inspired by her journey too.

This new chapter for Katahdin Collar Co. is deeply personal. Tomorrow, I’ll share more about how we’re bringing that to life in a way that feels like the most “me” thing we’ve ever done.
