I often see stuff about how dogs have many groups but all cats are just cats. Maine C***s are hunting cats.
Last night I woke up to a series of loud noises downstairs. I highly suspected it was the cats getting into things. I was very tired, so I made a judgement call not to look into it: nobody was making any noises like anybody had been injured.
This spring I bought a ~110 year old house in a quiet pocket of woods just in town. It wasn't that it was perfect, but I was dealing with a crazy rental situation, and it did solve that. I've been working all summer to clean and renovate, but there are areas I haven't gotten to yet. What's up in the light over the sink that doesn't work? Heck if I know! I would rather stay out of it until I'm ready to replace it (it is on 'the list' but that is a rather long list).
Such as it is, I do live in town, so I do have some close neighbors, but it isn't exactly like we're in a suburb here: this is the woods! If you're going to live in the woods in a place where it gets cold in the winter all kinds of mice and critters are going to try to find a crack into your place, and make a warm little nest. And I admit it: not much work has been done on the exterior yet, so there are still plenty of little mouse holes if a mouse is looking.
When I got up to make my coffee this morning, and feed everykitty their tuna wet food, this is what I woke up to. If you have any question about what happened, or if it is POSSIBLE for a cat to get up there? Being patient a few minutes while my coffee brewed revealed exactly what happened.
Somebody went up there. It was Trillian.
So here's the question? Are Maine C***s good hunters?
I'd say so, in my past experience, although no mouse was harmed in this particular incident.
Now I have my house project selected for the weekend. Thanks, Trill.
