Our newest addition to the dog adoption floor. DAISY 😍
Daisy is a real trooper who had a tough start, but thanks to some TLC in foster care, she's now thriving and unrecognizable from her former self! This gem of a dog is a total people-person, especially when it comes to kids. She was best buddies with her foster family's 4- and 6-year-olds. This cuddly couch potato is 100% house-trained and loves soaking up the sun and lounging in the grass. Just one thing – she's not a fan of cats and chickens, so she'd do best in a home without. She's known to get along with other dogs, but a slow and steady introduction is the way to go. When she's not snuggled up next to her favorite humans, her go-to pastime is snoozing. She's a total love bug!

Special feline in need of a loving home!📣
Dixon is a sweet, charming gal who has been under the care of a dedicated KVHS foster home since November of 2023. She requires special attention and routine care due to her diabetes. However, with proper management of her medication and diet, Dixon has thrived in her foster home.
Being a caretaker for Dixon involves giving her insulin twice a day and providing her with a prescribed diet food called Z/D for her skin. We are currently searching for an adopter who is ready to take on this responsibility.
In return, you'll be greeted by a charming and talkative companion who will brighten up your days. Dixon loves head rubs and craves frequent attention, and her foster mom describes her as an excellent conversationalist who enjoys human company.
Dixon is a social butterfly who gets along well with the dog in her foster home, and she also enjoys the company of other kitties as long as they respect her space. If you're looking for a delightful and affectionate furry friend, Dixon might be the perfect match for you!

Neo has been at KVHS for 114 days, and it was tough for him to watch 15 other dogs get adopted this past weekend. Neo dreams of outdoor adventures with his new family and cozy evenings in the living room, sharing laughter and love. He's unique and seeks special people to give him the forever love he deserves. Neo's separation anxiety is a challenge he's working to overcome, and he needs a patient and understanding family to help him with this. He also hopes to be the only pet in the household, as he feels most comfortable without other furry friends around. Despite that, Neo's companionship is truly special, and he will bring endless love to his new home. Jax, the adorable dog in these pictures, finally found his forever home Friday after spending six weeks at our shelter. The shelter environment was challenging for Jax, as he was quite timid and fearful during his time here. However, his new dad visited and spent time with him in our play yard, and after careful consideration, decided that Jax was the perfect match for him. Jax is now settling into his forever home, and we couldn't be happier for him!

In honor of , we want to share a story about a dog who beat all odds with the help of her foster family.
Meet Papaya, an unbelievably sweet gal who arrived at KVHS in a dire state, weighing only 26.4 pounds. Her severe malnutrition had rendered her immobile and unresponsive. Thanks to the relentless efforts of the teams at the Animal Emergency Clinic of Mid-Maine and Winthrop Veterinary Hospital, Papaya's condition stabilized enough for her to go to a foster home to continue healing.
It's in the foster home that miracles started to happen. With endless love and care, Papaya transformed from a frail, sick dog to a happy, playful pooch in five months. She now weighs a healthy 51 pounds. Thanks to her foster family, Papaya found a new lease on life and is now thriving with her loving adopters, who will cherish her for the rest of her years.

We are currently caring for numerous kittens and mother cats, and more are arriving each day. Since we are looking after a large number of little ones, we could really use your help. When Squidward's new owners first visited KVHS to meet some adoptable dogs, they had specific traits in mind. They were looking for a dog who liked water and car rides, and didn't mind being the only pet. Fortunately, Squidward fit the bill - he enjoys car rides, loves being the only pet, and is warming up to the idea of water activities, though kayaking is clearly not his thing. Squidward spent 113 days at KVHS before finding his forever home. His new owners took a chance on a dog who had been there for a while, and now they have a best friend who brings laughter and love into their lives. Although he's still on the more reserved side, he has come a long way out of his shell, and we're thrilled to get to know the real him. We believe Retro would do well in a quieter home where he can continue to receive mellow socialization. Due to his timid nature, he would be best suited for a household with older humans. Our cats have settled in nicely in their new digs, especially the shy ones like Retro. 😻 When Retro first arrived at KVHS, he was very nervous, but he has been doing better after receiving lots of TLC. He is now accepting gentle petting and attention, and has made close friends with one of our pawsome staff members, Cheyenne. He even purrs a little now!
