Last weekend was the Annual Pastured Poultry Conference hosted by APPPA. All the speakers and folks I met, shared the dream of creating a food system that supports local communities & replenishes our resources. One of the speakers, , shared a quote “plan with your grandchildren in mind - yours & mine.” from farmer Kim Seeley.

We lost one in the field today. Chicken tractor broke its back. It happens.

My daughter was home sick. She saw the whole thing. Stood with it while it died. I asked if she wanted to put it in the compost or honor it by making the most use of its body. She chose the latter. It was a divine opportunity. She saw death up close. Turned flesh into food. And turned death into life for herself and our family. You can’t get those lessons in school. Very cool of her. And so cool when life presents these layered opportunities. It was beautiful.
