Harlow came to us one day while we were out on a bike ride- he followed us for TEN MILES! happily, never losing pace. He was under a year at that time and very skinny so we decided to welcome him into our home. That was Sept 2022. Since then Harlow has grown more handsome and sweet. He is about 65lbs, crate-trained , housetrained, knows sit and laydown. He is a great dog but needs a lot of exercise and space to run! He has been known to escape but has always come back home.

He is a very sweet boy and loves to cuddle! He also does well with cats and dogs ❤

This cutie is Oreo!

Oreo is a friendly guy that is joyful, goofy, and full of life.

Notes from his finder:
- Very friendly, playful, and affectionate with family members including a 6 yr old boy
- LOVES fetching tennis balls as well as just chewing on them. He will leap in the air and is a very fast runner.
- Crate trained
- Fully Potty Trained
- Knows Basic Commands: sit, stay/wait, paw. etc.
- Lived with a cat for about a week and showed minimal interest and understood cues from cat to leave them alone.

Oreo has also been paired previously with a dog here at the shelter.

Working in animal welfare has been a real eye-opener for me, particularly when it comes to the way us Americans attribute human qualities to every kind of animal but none more so than dogs. I must admit that I was once guilty of doing this myself.

The key to caring for these creatures is to recognize their animal nature and treat them accordingly. It's essential to show kindness, respect, and love, while also maintaining discipline, structure, and understanding of their unique needs.

While we cherish and adore them deeply, we must remember they are not human beings. Our role as their guardians involves setting boundaries, providing enrichment, and understanding that we are here to guide them, not to assert ownership over them.

When they behave in ways we find challenging, it's an opportunity for self-reflection and understanding how we can better support and guide them.

There are no bad dogs, just untrained ones. 💜

Newly named Mimosa & Summer are looking forward to going to their forever homes in New York come February 💚
