Cavalier King Charles spaniels have several defects that flourish in their breed. Many in the vet industry are aware of the CKCS' potential for heart defects and Macrothrombocytopenia disorders, but not many are familiar with Primary secretory otitis media (or PSOM). PSOM is the process in which a mucus plug forms behind the ear drum, causing pain and discomfort. A myringotomy (the procedure seen here) is performed to remove the plug from the middle ear.
