Let's learn Spin!!
Step One: Have an obvious treat in your hand and use it to lure your pup in a circle. It can help to test both directions, some of our dogs prefer one over the other! Make sure to move your hand slowly enough that your pup can follow. If they get lost and come out of the spin, slow it down a little. Do this 3-4 times in a row, marking and treating as your pup finishes the circle.
Step Two: Fade your lure! Put your treats in your pocket (or on the side next to you) and do exactly the same motion, just without the treat in your hand. When your pup completes the circle, make sure to still mark and treat. Doing this step within a few lures is the key to making sure your pup is able to do this without the treat in your hand. If your dog is unable to do this without the lure in your hand, do one or two more repetitions with a lure and then try again. This is also the time you can add a verbal cue!
Step Three: Practice! Keep at it! Try not to go back to the lure if you can. As your dog gets more fluid with the motion start forming your hand into whatever you want the signal to look like, and try pulling it back to you earlier in the circle until eventually it's a mild flick of the wrist.
Step Four: Have fun!! Remember, training should always be fun fo ryou and your dog. If either of you are miserable, take a step back and reasses. And never hestitate to reach out to us for help!

Teddy is not a huge fan of being brushed, especially when we hit knots, but unfortunately being a #cavapoo daily brushing is kind of a thing. So we work with him gently and slowly. We've been practicing on elevated surfaces to help get him ready for his first trip to the groomer and working on a chin rest in our hand for brushing his head and chest, and being held gently for his back and body. We make sure to keep our brushing short and take lots of breaks for treats, and stop if he asks us to. Plus of course, cuddles at the end.

It's Trick Tuesday! Follow this step-by-step guide to teach your furry companion the "High Five" trick! 🐾🐾
Step 1: Prepare Treats 🦴🍖
Grab some delicious, bite-sized treats that your dog loves. These will be the rewards for their fantastic high fives!
Step 2: Get Their Attention 👀
Find a quiet spot to train and call your dog over. Make sure they're focused and ready to learn.
Step 3: Show the Paw ✋
Gently take one of your dog's paws in your hand and say "High Five" in a cheerful tone. Then treat! Do this a few times, and then wait to see if your dog can lift their paw on their own.
Step 4: Reward & Repeat 🎁
As soon as your dog lifts their paw even slightly, reward them with a treat and lots of praise! Repeat this step several times until they understand the connection between "High Five" and the paw lift.
Step 5: Practice & Polish 🔄
Practice the "High Five" trick regularly. The more you do it, the better your dog will become! Be patient and keep the sessions fun and positive.
Step 6: Generalize the Trick 🌎
Take the show on the road! Practice the "High Five" trick in different locations to help your dog generalize the behavior beyond the training spot.
Step 7: Show Off! 📸
Once your dog has mastered the "High Five" trick, show it off to friends and family. Capture the moment with a cute photo or video to share on social media! 📸🐕

Between is not only a great way to exercise your dogs brain (and body) indoors and away from the heat, but it's also a very useful skill! Between comes in handy in all kinds of settings (just check out our blog on it for all the details!).
Here's how you can teach your dog Between in a few simple steps:
1️⃣ Start in a Distraction-Free Environment: Begin training in a quiet and familiar space where your dog can focus without too many distractions.
2️⃣ Grab Some Tasty Treats: Use delicious treats as a reward to motivate your dog during the training process. Make sure the treats are small and enticing!
3️⃣ Lure Your Dog: Hold a treat in your right hand in front of your dog's nose, and slowly move it to your right side and behind your legs. Be ready with a second treat in your left hand. As they reach the desired spot behind you, mark and treat with the treat in your right hand, then quickly stick your left hand with the treat behind your legs and lure them through. Then mark and treat again.
4️⃣ Add Verbal and Hand Signals: Once your dog starts following the treat without hesitating, introduce a verbal cue and a hand signal.
5️⃣ Reward and Repeat: Repeat the process, gradually fading out the treat lures one by one and relying more on the verbal and hand signals.
6️⃣ Practice and Generalize: Practice in different locations and gradually increase distractions.
Remember, patience and positive reinforcement are key. Celebrate your dog's progress, and always end training sessions on a positive note.

One of the questions we get the most about our Day Training services is "How will I know how to keep the training going?".
We love that owners want to be involved and know how to keep things going after the Day Training session is over, and we are committed to supporting our dog owners and making sure they have all of the resources they need! So here's how we make sure that happens with Day Training:
🐾🌟 We highly recommend pairing Private Lessons with your Day Training, at least at the beginning. This allows us to give you hands on instruction on how to keep things going.
🐾🌟 During each Day Training visit we take as much video of our training as we can! Then we edit the highlights together (and sometimes this means the trickiest moments!) and send you an edited copy with a voiceover explaining every step we take.
🐾🌟 For each new skill your pup learns your trainer will share handouts and instructional videos with you to make sure you know exactly how to teach the skill.
🐾🌟 We are always available for you to ask questions via text and email! We are a team and here to support you every step of the way.
