Summer school, but make it dogs!

Good Dog 101 is back in session. This 6-week class gets your dog off to a great start. We teach all the basics--sit, down, wait, leave it, come when called, walk nicely on leash--using reward-based training methods. We add in some fun confidence-building, and top it off by helping you build an enrichment profile for your dog to promote a happier home life.

Classes are taught be Laura Fennell CPDT-KA in a safe, outdoor training facility in South Austin.

Wikazri Canine Sports Remodling today. The big old shed has been removed.
New partial fencing to give visual separation from the K9X entrance and front field from the Pawsitively Dog Agility field.
And a new light for the big field.

The winter weather brought lots of damage to Wikazri. The Fenceline check yesterday showed the fence to be intact but things are changing. If you have a dog that is looking for a way out, please check the Fenceline before letting them loose.

Did someone say Tricks?
Just in time for Halloween!

Trick training class is back in session just in time to bolster your pup's repertoire for party season!

This 6-week class covers the classics like shake, spin in a circle, take a bow, and many more! Plus, we cover the fundamentals of teaching tricks and give you the opportunity to take the AKC Novice Trick Dog test at the end of your enrollment.

We are announcing that 10/26/20 was the 20th anniversary of the Wikazri Canine Sports dog park!

On October 26, 2000, We signed off on the final papers to complete the purchase of the 3 acre parcel we named Wikazri. Well, yes...that is an unusual name. Wikazri came about for our love of our 3 sports dogs, Wichita, Kat and Ezri. Combining a portion of each name, we settled on “Wikazri”. I’m attaching a 20 year old photo below of Kim and I, with Wichita, Kat and Ezri, plus Kim’s Doberman, Rhetta, who was with us every step of the way. Sadly, they have all crossed the Rainbow Bridge. Our inspiration, they live on in Wikazri.

We started with a vision of love for our dogs and all the joy they brought into our lives, to provide a safe and near-to-Austin property to honor dog sports, training, and just hanging out. We visited properties for about a year, realizing that our land budget needed to quadruple unless we we wanted to locate 30-40 miles outside of Austin. Finally, we found this property.

Over the course of the next couple of years, we cleared 1.5 acres of mesquite trees ourselves (after work and on weekends) with saws and pick axes, installed water and electric lines, and fences. It was physically hard work, and looking back, I can’t believe we did it! Or even thought we could do it! (The plus side was that we came out with great tans and totally buffed muscles!)

Over the years, we have have provided space for agility groups, flyball clubs, puppy classes, Frisbee challenges, obedience classes, schutzhund training, rally classes, Breed Clubs (my personal favorite was the Burmese Mountain Dogs, puppies and all!), and the very important activity of “just hanging out”.

We envisioned a fun celebration this year with food, drinks, photo ops, Disc, Trick games, Agility VTs and camaraderie. Unfortunately, this is not a time to risk social gatherings and possible spread of the COVID19 virus. We are hopeful that we can have this celebration within the next year.

In the meantime, please join us in celebrating this anniversary by hugging your dogs, and take the time to “just hang out”.
