We had a very different post planned for today…

Today we had a video of sweet Manny walking, with the title “today will be the last day you’ll see Manny with 4 legs.”

And while this may seem like sad news, we were very happy to share this with you in bittersweet way.

As many of you know, Manny was recently diagnosed with cancer, and we have been seeing specialists to check if it had metastasized (spread) based on ultrasound results.

After meeting with oncology, running cell samples of any suspicious things on the ultrasound, we got the clear that it had not metastasized, and the best course of action would be to remove his leg where the cancer was taking over his foot. This would remove the cancer from his body and allow him to begin to heal.

But today before the amputation surgery, our surgeon wanted to run a quick chest x-ray because he is heartworm positive, to make sure that the heartworms were not at a level that would be dangerous to put him under anesthesia.

Once he got those results, everything paused.

Instead of finding advanced heartworm, the x-ray showed nodules in the lungs.

The most likely answer here? The cancer, while it had not spread to other parts of the body, has very likely spread into Manny’s lungs.

Now there are more questions, more doctors needing to collaborate, and more plans to be made.

We don’t have any other answers aside from the fact that we paused the amputation surgery for today until we have the answers that we need because if it has spread to the lungs, removing his leg will do nothing for his longevity.

We haven’t hit our fundraising goal yet for Manny and until Manny quits, we won’t. As of today, he is happy, energetic and otherwise healthy. Any plan that we ultimately choose for him will always focus on his quality of life first. 💙

Help us help Manny keep fighting.

Zip's great adventure + rescue story made it to Texas Monthly!

69 days later, and we finally have a happy ending that our whole team is still celebrating. 🥳

Trail runners, pet lovers, and strangers came together to find the two-year-old chihuahua-terrier mix.

The power of scent stations and scent trails are amazing! Ava’s mom was incredibly diligent at following our tips and sweet girl showed up at the back door at 4am. 👏😭

🚨Help us find Ava!

Ava is a female, brown and white border collie mix. She’s small, just about 30lbs.

Ava was just adopted 3 days ago and has a rough past. She is SUPER shutdown and skittish and had just started taking treats from her new family the day before. 😭

A tree fell on their metal roof the night before she went missing and in the morning, she was still freaked out and backed out of her harness and bolted.

She will not come to anyone. Please do not attempt to engage with her at all & share that sentiment with everyone you know. 🙏

We need everyone in this area to be hyper-vigilant and alert us if you spot her! 👀

It is VITAL that you do NOT CHASE her and please help us get the word out right away!

🚨🚨SOS!!!! Help us fund Chloe’s emergency procedure to remove a safety pin from her stomach! 🧷😫

Chloe is a recent capture; we just rescued her a few days ago after learning her family had moved out a year ago and left her roaming the streets. 😢 She had been limping and neighbors feeding her.

It took the team every trick in the book to catch her - she wasn’t interested in being approached, the regular trap was much too scary and even after setting up our big missy trap, she sat and stared at even though she was so hungry. 😭 Finally, we caught her!

She was safely in her crate in foster starting to feel a little more relaxed after cowering in the corner the last couple of days. She was gnawing on her bed and when she tore a bit of it, there was a SAFETY PIN inside of it. We don’t know why or how. Her foster saw it in her mouth right away and ran to her to grab it, but before she could Chloe started gagging and swallowed.

We rushed her to our vet and an xray shows an OPEN safety pin in her stomach. They need to attempt to remove it by scope immediately and if they can’t, they will need to do a full foreign body surgery.

The estimate range is $1700-$3300.

Please help us save Chloe!😭🙏 A safety pin can’t be what takes this girl out. 🧷

Manny has cancer. 🥺

He was found abandoned in northeast Austin and unable to be approached by neighbors. They let us know he was hiding in some bushes and our team went out to rescue him.

Once he was caught, we noticed a limp and a big mass on his back paw.

Manny had his intake exam, vaccines and a biopsy done and it’s a mass cell tumor (cancer).

In the best of worlds, we will find out that it hasn’t spread, can be surgically removed and Manny lives a long, wonderful, happy life.

However, due to some swollen lymph nodes and some panting with low exertion, we need to run an ultrasound to ensure that the cancer has not metastasized to anywhere else in his body.

In addition to what we’ve already done and the further testing and possible surgery to remove the tumor, Manny will (once green lit) also need neuter surgery and more medical.

Manny is also heartworm positive and has hookworms. 😫

This boy deserves the world and we are so grateful we found him when we did. As with all of our dogs, Manny’s quality of life will always take highest priority on this journey. We hope you’ll be along with us for the ride.

Can you help us get Manny the care he needs?

The most valid reason that any dog sitter has ever “lost” a dog. 😳

Real talk: dog sitters call us often for lost pets, and to be honest they are often lost haphazardly. 😔

But last night, we received a phone call to the hotline that had us in tears for poor Hazel in the moment, but also in tears of how proud we were of her pet sitter – and how we hoped that if she was ever watching one of our own dogs, she would’ve done the same.

Hazel was “lost” but Hazel’s dog sitter had saved her life.

Last evening, Hazel was headed out for a leashed walk as she does with her regular dog sitter while her dad was out of town.

They did not get too far when her sitter noted that there was another dog across the street, also on leash.

She glanced away for a moment and by the time she looked back towards the dog in front of her, she saw that at this point the owner was facedown on the street being drug across the road (by her leashed dog) towards Hazel.😲

This particular dog had locked eyes on Hazel and was clearly intending on attacking.

Within a split second, the approaching dog was hit by a car!, they then stood up from the impact and continued to charge Hazel.🤯

Once they got to Hazel, they started attacking her. Hazel’s dog sitter immediately went to the other dog to attempt to break up the dogfight in whatever way she possibly could. She was able to essentially tackle the offending dog and pin her while breaking her free of Hazel and just scream: “Hazel, GO! GET OUT OF HERE! Save yourself, run girl, RUN!!” 😭

Hazel took off in terror and eventually bystanders came to take over and she ran to find Hazel.

She learned about TRAPRS 3 hours later & the team rushed to the area to begin to assist in the search. We stayed out all night searching, but we also set up a scent station at the front door to give Hazel the best chance of finding her way home.

And sure enough, at sunrise Hazel was at the front door!😭👏

Welcome home sweet girl! You are so lucky and even more lucky to have a sitter who saved you. 💙

Note: we won’t be answering any questions about the attacking dog or its owner. That is being privately handled.

🤯 This could help change so many lives.

A beyond generous anonymous TRAPRS supporter has just offered us a $3,000 match donation! Every dollar you donate, up to our goal of $3,000 is doubled.

We are so incredibly grateful as our needs are through the roof right now. We receive 10-25 calls PER DAY for lost pets and stray, dumped animals.

Unless we are actively dealing with a medical crisis in the moment, donations often trickle in here and there so this could not have come at a better time for our organization.

These photos are just a small handful of the dogs we’ve rescued and the cases our team has worked in the last couple of weeks alone. 🫶

Our angel supporter did this with the goal of helping us be able to say YES to saving more lives. 🥹

We hope you’ll say YES and help us meet our goal!🙏

👏 Dogs. Aren’t. Disposable. 👏

Repeat after us. 👆

As the animal crisis in Texas continues, the calls and messages we receive aren’t slowing down. 💔

This poor girl is just one of hundreds in the last few months. Thankfully, she came with a willing foster and rescue ready to take her in. A rarity for us.🥹

After a few days of trap-training, she was an easy breezy capture. 🤌

Riley is beginning round 2 of her life in a cozy foster home and with air conditioning, just in time for our summer heat. 🥵

She is adjusting well and already so, so loved. 🥹

Can you help us save a life?🥺

🚨‼️FOSTER NEEDED - AUSTIN, TX‼️🚨

This poor pup has a severe case of mange, is emaciated, and so afraid of everything.

A wildlife rehabber, a wildlife biologist and multiple vets have all given us the green light to trap, that this is, in their opinion, a dog, not a coyote.

He desperately needs medical attention and a safe haven.

If you know us, you probably know Jude and you know what magical transformations can happen with a pup like this!

You: live in Austin, TX, have a safe place where he can be inside and separate from other pets (we promise this is easy and we’ll show you how!), a willingness to learn and work with us to rehab him.

Us: will cover medical and supplies (crates to toys!). Provide a team to support you and help you navigate rehabbing and ultimately our adoption process.

🥹 We are speechless!

An amazingly generous TRAPRS supporter has just announced a $1500 match donation!🤯

As an organization, this is our first-ever match offer and we are so grateful. 💙

What does this mean? Every dollar donated is DOUBLED up to $1500 if you donate towards our match campaign fundraiser that starts NOW!

With recent medical cases and such constant calls for help, this comes at a time that couldn’t be more needed. These photos are just a handful of the dogs we’ve rescued recently; there are some familiar faces, and some with stories that you’ll be hearing soon.

We can’t do what we do without you. The city is failing our dogs and we are trying hard to pick up the pieces.

Our mission? We help where we can, when we can, how we can.

And we hope we inspire you to do the same, whether you’re in Austin or anywhere around the world!

🎉8 days later and this big lug is HOME SAFE!

Frankie first went missing from the yellow circle at the top on 4/21/24 and we had initial sightings at 1 & 2. (One the same day he went missing on the security cam photo attached. He ran far the first hour!)

Our tracking dog team went out and the square was their general area that they got the most hits. While they were out, Frankie’s dad met a neighbor who happened to have a camera in his yard, and he asked him to point it at the field if possible. He kindly obliged.

From there, we had Frankie’s dad flyer everywhere surrounding this green space. And you if you live in the area, you probably met him! He did AMAZING.

Finally on Saturday evening, we got a sighting from a home bordering the Veloway ( #3). From there, Frankie’s dad stayed out late that evening, attempting to lure him with scent, and then put a handbill under every single doormat that borders the Veloway!

We had bad storms on Sunday and no clues that day. We were heading out early Monday with the thermal drone and to set up a feeding station.

But Frankie had other plans! At around 6am, 4/29/24, that kind neighbor near the tracking dog’s area called and let his dad know that Frankie walked past the camera 15 minutes ago.
His dad rushed to the area with Frankie’s brother and once they were back in the field, they were able to lure him over!

Frankie went to the vet later that morning, and came home, promptly grabbed his red bone and went to sleep. He’s been napping his way through the week and his dad is overjoyed.

Thank y’all so much for sharing and spreading awareness! Welcome home, Frankie! 👏
