When it seems like the rest of the world says no, we say yes. 🤝

From lost pet recovery to street dog rescue and rehabilitation, our team takes calls every hour of the day and night. We trap and rescue pups at 2am, on holidays, and in all weather.

Our fully volunteer team devote so much of their time and energy to TRAPRS to help support the Austin animal community.

We can’t do this hardwork without our community. We can’t say YES to cases without your YES to us. 🙏

💔Abandoned and nowhere to go.

🚨 We need an urgent foster for this beautiful floofy, friendly boy.🚨

He was running on a busy highway and, by some stroke of magic, happened to run into a team member. She rescued him and thought surely he must be owned and loved.

But sadly, the opposite. We quickly learned where he lived and that his “family” moved out a month ago, took one of their dogs and left him behind. 💔

He has been roaming ever since with a torn ribbon tied to his collar from their failed attempt of leaving him tethered alone in the yard. 😠

✅ Young, under 2
✅ Fine in a crate
✅ comfortable with a leash
✅ ignores other dogs (so far no formal intros but no reaction to sight and barking)
✅ happy boy that just wants to be your friend!

Stinker’s mom died suddenly last week. 💔 While her caretaker was making arrangements at the home, Stinker went into the backyard and escaped through the fence and ran away. 😭

Her mom’s caretaker loves her so much and she has a forever home with her.💙

She’s in complete flight mode and we need to find her.

🚨Help us find Disco!

Disco is a 13 y/o male, Cockapoo with ONE EYE & partially deaf. He is wearing a collar with tags and although a Cockapoo, he’s tall and lanky.

Disco was being watched by a sitter while his family was away for work. As serendipity would have it, his parents were on their work site with one of our directors so our team was notified quickly to get to the area.

Although he is 13, he’s quick! Don’t let his age fool you.

He is likely terrified and out of sorts. Please do not attempt to engage with him at all & share that sentiment with everyone you know. 🙏

Just a mini snapshot of our week in rescue. 📸

For this we’re sharing a little about where your donations are going and where are our time and energy have been spent over the last few days!

From puppies with the wildest level of worms you’ve ever seen, (left out the photo but maybe we should share that too 🙈), from pleading for fosters and training sessions to medical emergencies and searching for lost pups, there hasn’t been a dull moment. 😅

🥹 We love a good happy ending! While our team supports the stray and lost pet population, we frequently get requests for support for owned pets too.

We wish we could help them all, but sometimes with rescue partner friends it’s made possible.

Language barriers, finance barriers and transportation issues can make pet ownership so challenging in ways many people don’t often think about.

🚨SOS🚨

FOSTER NEEDED - Austin, TX📍

These poor babies have been living under cars at an abandoned home. 😩 They are emaciated and have swollen bellies, likely full of parasites but it could be worse. We won’t know anything else until we can get them medical attention. 😭

These two are terrified and stuck together like glue.

We need a safe, loving foster home in order to rescue them.🙏

To our amazing community, we aim to always be open, transparent and vulnerable with you… whether it is during our good news cases or our gutwrenching ones.

We have been “throttling” our intake for months now, taking in the most critical when we have the placement to do so and have a laundry list of strays waiting. Trying to hang on tightly.

These are just a few of the many faces we’ve saved recently, including Smokey, the last photo and the last one who’s critical that we’ve committed to saving right now. 💔

But we are at a juncture where we are dangerously close to having to completely close intake for awhile.😢

For “space”? No.

For funding.

If we have a foster home for a pup to go, saying no feels incredibly cruel and against our mission but we also aren’t funded by the city’s $18M budget.

We are a small group of incredibly hardworking individuals dedicating every ounce of free time (and often forgoing time for family, work, friends) for the dogs of Austin while not one of us takes a salary from TRAPRS.

We will always need 3 things to stay afloat:

Funding. Fosters. ADOPTERS.

The Golden Girls are ready for their forever homes! Our sweet trio has been doing amazing in foster, getting vetted and socializing. 💙

🥹 Today is a big day for Jude.

(Swipe to see the many faces and incredible transformation!)

When we first rescued Jude, he could not be touched, let alone put a collar on him, or even go outside!

He’s made so much progress, and today is his huge vet appt.🥹

Getting Jude to and from the vet is a methodically planned, multi-person extravaganza.

We’ve been up before dawn, he got his pre appt calm down meds, crated and then the crate carried into our vehicle.

Once at the vet, we carried him inside IN his crate and then he got a sedative injected to keep this as minimally stressful as possible.

We had a very different post planned for today…

Today we had a video of sweet Manny walking, with the title “today will be the last day you’ll see Manny with 4 legs.”

And while this may seem like sad news, we were very happy to share this with you in bittersweet way.

As many of you know, Manny was recently diagnosed with cancer, and we have been seeing specialists to check if it had metastasized (spread) based on ultrasound results.

After meeting with oncology, running cell samples of any suspicious things on the ultrasound, we got the clear that it had not metastasized, and the best course of action would be to remove his leg where the cancer was taking over his foot. This would remove the cancer from his body and allow him to begin to heal.

But today before the amputation surgery, our surgeon wanted to run a quick chest x-ray because he is heartworm positive, to make sure that the heartworms were not at a level that would be dangerous to put him under anesthesia.

Once he got those results, everything paused.

Instead of finding advanced heartworm, the x-ray showed nodules in the lungs.

The most likely answer here? The cancer, while it had not spread to other parts of the body, has very likely spread into Manny’s lungs.

Now there are more questions, more doctors needing to collaborate, and more plans to be made.

We don’t have any other answers aside from the fact that we paused the amputation surgery for today until we have the answers that we need because if it has spread to the lungs, removing his leg will do nothing for his longevity.

We haven’t hit our fundraising goal yet for Manny and until Manny quits, we won’t. As of today, he is happy, energetic and otherwise healthy. Any plan that we ultimately choose for him will always focus on his quality of life first. 💙

🐾🚒 Help save Stoney! Sometimes we rescue them just in time and don’t even know it. We rescued Stoney off the street last week and she was seemingly healthy other than being covered in fleas and nervous. Until she wasn’t. Over the last 48 hours, she started rapidly losing weight, although she was eating tremendous amounts of food. Then started the diarrhea and lethargy. We rush her to our primary vet yesterday morning, who ended up hospitalizing her for the day. She was severely dehydrated, very anemic, and battling a serious parasite infection. After it was time for pick up, we she was not OK still, and barely responsive to her foster mom. 💔 We transferred her to the ER where she has been since last night receiving treatment. She’s about 4.5 mths old and the sweetest girl. We are so grateful we found her when she did or it would be a very horrible situation for her out there alone.
