New blog post! Staying in theme with "National Train Your Dog Month" this week's post is on Separation Anxiety in Dogs.

We've noticed an uptick in concerns with separation anxiety following the COVID shut downs and changes in routines so we wanted to put together a resource that talks about how to recognize separation anxiety, how to prevent it, and some training exercises that can help pets who suffer from it!

You can find this post and others on our website under the "Pet Owner Resources" tab: https://www.citylimitsvetclinic.com/pet-owner-resources/category/separation-anxiety-in-dogs

Creme Puff was born August 3rd, 1967 in Austin, TX and passed away on August 6th, 2005 at the age of 38 years and 3 days old!

Her owner, Jake Perry, had another cat named Granpa Rex Allen who lived to 34 years of age!

Sources say that Jake provided his cats with lots of enrichment including a movie theater that played nature documentaries, wooden steps built into the walls for the cats to climb on, and a screened enclosure in the back yard.

Don't forget your pets while baking for the holidays! Here is a vet-approved dog treat recipe that is great for any dog without a sensitive stomach or food allergies! **Seal in an airtight container for up to 6 weeks in the refrigerator**

Ingredients (cookies):
-2 1/2 cups whole wheat flour
-1 large egg
-1 cup peanut butter (ensure xylitol is not an ingredient in your peanut butter)
-1 cup water
-2 tablespoons honey

Instructions (cookies):
1) Preheat oven to 350°F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Set aside.
2) In a large bowl, combine flour and the egg. Add the peanut butter, water, and honey, and stir until you have a stiff dough. The dough becomes very firm and sticky. You may need to use your hands, or the paddle attachment on your mixer.
3) On a lightly floured surface, roll out the dough about ½-inch thick and use a cookie cutter to make fun shapes. The treats barely spread and rise, so get creative with your shapes.
4) Bake for 18-20 minutes, until golden. Once done, set aside to cool. (If you have smaller cookies, use less time, otherwise the bottom might burn.)
5) You can stop there, or read on for decorating ideas!

You can cheat like we did and purchase a pre-made icing mix like this one: https://www.amazon.com/K9Cakery-Magi-Frost-Icing-Treat/dp/B0166OD5MI/ref=sr_1_1?crid=2B0W1PJJ5236S&keywords=magifrost+dog+treat+icing&qid=1671297582&sprefix=magifrost+do%2Caps%2C113&sr=8-1

Or, make your own frosting:

Ingredients (frosting):
-2 tablespoons peanut butter
-1 tablespoon honey
-1/3 cup cornstarch
-3-4 tablespoons hot water

Instructions (frosting):
1) Combine the peanut butter and honey in a microwavable bowl, and heat in the microwave in 15 second increments, stirring in between, until melted.
2) Add the melted peanut butter mixture to the cornstarch and stir until just combined.
3) Slowly add in the water 1 tablespoon at a time until you have reached the consistency that you would like. For a thinner frosting, add more water.
4) Add the frosting to a piping bag and pipe designs on top of each dog treat.

Tag us your pictures of your pets enjoying their holiday cookies!!

Day 6 of Staff Appreciation Week! Last but certainly not least, we want to share our appreciation for Dr. Lynanne Graf who has been such an incredible addition to the CLVC family.

Here's what Dr. Graf's co-workers had to say to/about her:

Dr. Graf is an amazing doctor + person. Between how thorough she is and how receptive she is to new ideas, she’s definitely someone to look up to.

Dr. Graf, I literally appreciate everything you do. You are a phenomenal veterinarian and a very fun + kind person!

Dr. Graf has such a beautiful inner light. She is kind, compassionate and thoughtful. She genuinely cares about the animals she treats and I’m so happy to work with her!

Dr. Graf is always open to suggestions, which can sometimes be a rarity in this field!

Dr. Graf,
I’m always sad to only see you once a week! Thank you for always being so kind. You have the best sense of humor and I love listening to your stories.

Dr. Graf,
I think you’re just the sweetest person ever and clients would absolutely agree! I don’t get to work side by side with you too often, but when I do the days are so smooth and so fun!

I appreciate Dr. Graf’s DOG SHOES!!! And everything else about her too.

Dr. Graf, CLVC is so lucky to have you! You’re an amazing veterinarian, a kind person and so much fun to work with!

What I love about Dr Graf is her calm and gentle energy, and how she always communicates so well with clients...they love her!...and so do we!

Day 6 of Staff Appreciation Week at CLVC! Today we would like to highlight a very talented and patient tech - Shane!

Here's what Shane's co-workers had to say to/about him:

A shift with Shane is an amazing way to start and end the work week. Big smiles and an assorted array of canned coffee and water. Shane is a constant supply of sass, laughs and unwavering smiles.

Shane, I appreciate your positivity and how you share it with everyone else around too.

I appreciate that Shane spends time with clients, making sure to address all questions/concerns. The clients feel heard and it makes my job much easier.

Shane takes the time to explain everything to clients thoroughly and always does it with patience.

Shane, you are such a wonderful tech and the clients LOVE you! You truly care about your job and if I was a client I’d absolutely request you!

Shane has great taste in beer!

Shane, We don’t work together often, but each time we do I am so impressed by how much kindness and expertise you show our clients. All hail the cat lady charmer!

Shane,
OMG, you charm literally every client that walks out of your rooms, they leave with the biggest grin on their face. I don’t know how you do it!!

I appreciate that Shane understands + shares my love for terrifying + disturbing horror movies. He can always give the best recommendations for dark movies and vegetarian food.

Shane loves cats so much! And he is incredible about communicating thoroughly and patiently with all patient owners, even the old/confused ones!

Shane- Watching you with our clients and, most of all, our patients is truly the best part of some of my days. Your patience with skittish pets speaks so much to your character and is something that just can’t be taught! The field needs more techs like you! Never change.

Day 5 of Staff Appreciation Week at CLVC! We want to highlight how much we appreciate our incredible tech, Hannah, who has the kindest heart of anyone you'll ever meet!

Here are some things Hannah's co-workers had to say to/about her:

Hannah, Thank you for making everyday brighter with your ever glowing presence. I would die for you “this is sparta” style any day of the week.

I appreciate how Hannah can sweet talk the pets… even the spicy ones.

Once Hannah learns something it sticks forever!

Hannah, I appreciate literally everything about you… your sense of humor, your obsession with cats and the constant state of paranoia you live in because you listen to too many crime docs! You’re so golden, please never change!

I appreciate the amount of love that Hannah expresses to each patient. She immediately loves them as she would her own and that’s how you know she’s a good person.

I appreciate that Hannah always wants to learn and grow as a tech and never gives less than 100%.

Hannah, I appreciate your good intentions. Seriously, everything you say or do is positive and from the heart.

My favorite thing about Hannah is Millie! Also her infectious personality and passion. She is kind and caring with the slightest bit of spice mixed in. She amazes me with how efficient she is with people, pets and problem solving.

Hannah’s deep care and compassion for our four legged friends is boundless; she is especially fluent in the language of cats!...and I'm always happy to work with her.

Hannah,
Your ability to take direction is so impressive. You could thrive anywhere but it’s obvious why you choose vet med. Your love for our patients (and clients) is so endearing. You are a voice to those that don’t have one and compassionate when it’s needed the most. You bring a beautiful light and energy to CLVC that I couldn’t imagine not being there. Thank you!

10/16/2022

National Veterinary Technician Week falls on the third week of October every year. At CLVC, we celebrate Staff Appreciation Week instead since it takes the whole village to run a veterinary hospital. Not only is today the first day of our Staff Appreciation Week, it's Boss's Day! So we are going to start our week off by telling the world how much we appreciate the boss of all bosses - our practice manager, Kristy.

Here are a few things her co-workers had to say about/to her:

Kristy, you make work not feel like work. Not only am I so thankful for everything you do for the staff and the clinic, but I am also thankful for you keeping me sane. You are one in a million. NEVER change.

Kristy, I don’t think I’ve ever worked for a boss who says they’re looking out for us but actually does. Thank you for always looking out for staff the way you do! Thank you for trusting us and pushing us to be better. Happy Bosses Day!

Kristy is literally the best manager I've ever had. She listens, and speaks with kindness. She is so down to earth and is always willing to help, but also trusts that we can do our jobs as well. I can't ask for a better person to lead us! 💚

Kristy-
Thank you for creating a place in vet med where we can do what we love without the toxicity this field is riddled with. Thank you for always protecting us and our CLVC culture. You are the change and hope that vet med needs. I’m so thankful for you!

Kristy is literally the best manager I've had. She goes above and beyond. Really goes out of her way to make sure the staff is taken care of and happy. I know I can always talk to her if I need to and she really listens when I do. Her dedication to the culture of this hospital is beyond admirable and I feel that she not only meets but, surpasses her goal of making CLVC a unicorn clinic.

What i appreciate about Kristy...is...EVERYTHING.
But, especially that she works diligently to make sure that our work environment stays positive and supportive for everyone. She's a bright star🌟
