Western Wynds Slovenský Čuvač

Western Wynds Slovenský Čuvač Owner and breeder of rare Slovenský Čuvač dogs. Owner/breeder of Slovenský Čuvač dogs. They are our pets and do not live in kennels.

I am passionate about this rare breed
and about sharing information so that
others will come to know and love the Čuvač. The SLOVENSKÝ ČUVAČ [Pronounced SLO-ven-skee CHEW-votch] is a large, white, loving, loyal, intelligent, alert, confident, strong, companion and guardian. These are some of the characteristics of the Slovenský Čuvač, a rare breed dog, native to Slovakia. Admirers are taking note

of this wonderful, little known breed. I am one of those admirers—an American of Slovak heritage. For me, it was love at first sight and I wanted one of these beautiful dogs. I now share my life with five of these white ones—Valika, Basie, Arjun, Barča and Bella.

On July 26 I bred my female Jenny Ze Starého Rovného to my male Ruffin Onyx Mark. Jenny was born Nov 4, 2021 and her mother is Iwey Biela Sila and her father is Alfréd z Panské Ovčirny. Ruffin was born Nov 15, 2020. His mother is Gweny Bekin Dvor and his father is Aramis Bílá Huňka. Both Jenny and Ruffin are from the Czech Republic. I should be able to test for pups around August 16 but if she is pregnant I won't know the number of pups until about September16. If you are interested in a puppy, please let me know.

If anyone is interested in a Slovensky Cuvac puppy, I might be having a litter this fall. There is also another family considering breeding. Due to the new USA import policies, it will be almost impossible to import Cuvac puppies from anywhere around the world. A dog will need to be 6 months old and most breeders will not keep a pup that long when they can sell them when they are weeks old in their home country. You can contact me through Messenger.

The USA's Center for Disease Control (CDC) has implemented rules that stop the importation/travel to the US for puppies under six months of age. This means that we who want to bring Slovensky Cuvac puppies will find it impossible to do so. No breeder overseas will want to keep a puppy until it is 6 months of age before they ship here. Cuvacs need to arrive at the best time for bonding with their new owners - under 12 weeks of age - not 6 months old when they will have bonded with their breeder.

Starting on August 1, 2024 all dogs entering the U.S. (including those that left the U.S. and are returning, and regardless of the country they are coming from) must be:
• healthy upon arrival (OF COURSE!)
• at least 6 months of age (NO MORE PUPPIES AT 11-12 WEEKS.)
• microchipped (WITH AN APPROVED AMERICAN CHIP)
• accompanied by a CDC Dog Import Form receipt and required vaccination and veterinary documents. (IN ENGLISH)

Additional requirements may apply depending on where the dog has been in the last 6 months and whether or not the dog was vaccinated in the United States.

You can use the CDC’s Q&A tool (the CDC “DogBot”) to determine what rules apply to your dog: https://bit.ly/2rww2bq

This is a lousy rule and the CDC doesn't really explain why they are putting these strict policies in place except to cut down on rabies. But all the countries where we import from have virtually eliminated rabies, so that really is not the issue.

Frost in a field of Texas Bluebonnets. Frost is still looking for a new home. Owner is willing to drive him to wherever the new owner lives. Frost has gone through extensive behavioral training. He is very strong willed. He needs a confident owner experienced with LGDs and their independent nature. He is free to the right person.

Two-year old Frost still needs a new home. Here's what he needs:
1. Someone who is experienced with re-homing or rescues who will be patient with him as he adapts to his new home.
2. Someone with training and experience with livestock guardian dogs that are strong willed and think for themselves.
3. A home where he will be the only dog, at least for awhile, as he has never lived with another animal but gets along with other dogs well in a dog play/training environment.
4. A home without children would be best since he has never lived with children and we do not know how he would be with them.
5. Someone who is not afraid of big dogs; who will cuddle and love him; someone he will bond with forever.
6. Someone who can afford providing him a low sodium dog food and see to all his needs.

Because we have so few Cuvacs in America, I believe that when we breed we need to keep the bloodlines diverse and keep the inbreeding coefficients low. Abby has a beautiful pedigree where she has no common ancestors in the first four generations and only one common ancestor in the 5th. This is rare to find in a rare breed dog's pedigree. We thank our breeder friends in the Czech Republic and Slovakia for helping us import Cuvacs dogs here that will help us achieve diversity in our breedings and for trusting us with your beautiful puppies.

Abby - Her father is a male I bred, Colossal Zeus OF WESTERN WYNDS. Her mother is Aurora ČIRÉ ŠTĚSTÍ. Zeus and Aurora live together and this was the first litter of the new Slovensky Cuvac kennel called KokaCuvacs. I still own Zeus's mother Bella of Busy Ponds Valley who is now 9 years old.

The new baby at Western Wynds is Abby of KokaCuvacs. She was 8 weeks old yesterday and came to live with us. I am co-owning her with my friend Margie and Abby will live with us. Hopefully when she is old enough she will breed some beautiful puppies.
