Wellness Wednesday: An activated immune response can increase energy demands for glucose up to 1kg (2.2lbs) per 12 hour period of time. Supplementation of S. cervesiae boulardii may alter immune response in a way that saves energy and leaves more glucose available for growth and production without impacting dry matter intake.

NEW BLOG: Peak milk is used to measure the success of the dry period and early lactation nutrition and management. When nutrient needs for both the fetus and the cow are met during the dry period the cow will have a better chance of handling the stress inflicted at calving, will be able to modulate inflammation better, and will be less likely to encounter any metabolic diseases during the fresh period. “Be consistent in your calf protocols. Colostrum is a big thing. Get it in right away and supplement it as needed with frozen colostrum and/or products like Sync Paste. We feed fresh colostrum to our calves, and it is often an hour or more before they get their first feeding. I give Sync Paste first thing, it helps to begin gut colonization, and they are more eager to eat their first meal of real colostrum.”- Holly Tuman

Wellness Wednesday: Decreased quality and quantity of production as a result of a mastitis infection results in approximately $35 billion in annual losses worldwide. Antibiotic therapy is still considered the most effective way to treat mastitis. Recent discoveries involving the gut microbiome gut and mammary axis may prove helpful in preventing mastitis infection and have the potential to prove to be an effective alternative therapy to antimicrobial use.
