While I certainly refrain from working my young horses hard I have been starting him lately over jumps and by lightly I mean we do this about once every 10 days. He has been jumped. Maybe a dozen times total now. He also does plenty of gentle Trail hacking, so he is learning his feet, rest, assured, I’m not running this bu**er to death. I find him to be super gentle for an amateur, which I am, and I also am willing to put my small child on him, so I trust him quite a bit. I’ve had the 12-year-old twins ride him as well. Will increase with training, accepting something reasonable at this time ”Doc”
He does night rides
He rides to town, he goes in the water, you can ride him ba****ck, you can ride him in a bit or without you can ride him western, you can ride him with a halter and a lead line unsecure you only have one side rein.
He has been exposed plenty to camels, construction, carriages and umbrellas, events with loud noises, etc. Would love to see him go somewhere that a young rider can grow with him as he is only four years old.
I haven’t taken a measuring stick to him, but I will bet 50 bucks he every bit of 17 hands possibly pushing 17 one. If I’m wrong, I’ll give you 50 bucks.

There’s absolutely nothing more peaceful than a morning on the ranch with horses. Serenity in its most basic form. Find some serenity of your own and join us 6 days a week ☺️
Good morning. My name is Joan-Marie and I have been managing Maverick Horseback Riding for 11 years.
I am no longer offering public rides and passing over the baton to a handful of members of a strong, small, but mighty team.
MaKayla Peoples offers dressage and blended trails/dressage excursions out here in Lockhart
Maya Messaykeh offers General Horsemanship sessions with a dressage focus, she speaks, fluent French and Arabic for those who wish to have a lesson in their native language,
Eryn Ryba is a lifelong Jumper trainer and coach. She serves part time throughout the week occasionally, as well as on Saturdays by appointment
Austin & Ashley are not on Facebook, but they teach Saturday and Sunday along with a few weekday appointments here and there by appointment. They are wonderful instructor for children and beginners. They are gentle and kind.
Deborah Miller is new to our team, but not new to Horsemanship. She is incredibly skilled and knowledgeable about a variety of western disciplines and has some experience coaching general Horsemanship in English as well. She’s been there and done that and she’s here full-time and some, so you will see her face on the weekends, and during the week.
I am going to miss serving the public, I want to give a sincere thank you to everyone who has shown me gratitude over the years. I’ve said many times no one does this business for the money. We do it for the love of the land, the animals, animals, and some gratitude. To those of you who have shown that love and gratitude, I really do thank you.
God Bless.

Good morning from Lockhart, TX. Riding in the foggy Texas morning just feels better! Anyone down to do an early morning ride with us? Rides 6 days a week, link in bio.
Join us for some epic rides at Maverick Horseback Riding
WOW! I can’t even begin to express my gratitude toward this community. When we first started sharing Catherine’s gofundme to the community only one week ago they had around $7,000, and with our help and everyone’s kind generosity they are almost at $10,000! In ONE week! That is incredible. Thank you, thank you, thank you. It means so much to us to see friends of Maverick’s stepping up and being a part of this. Thank you extra to all of those who have pledged money and actively donated in the past week. We really couldn’t ask for a better family or local horse community. ❤️

Ever since losing our primary Facebook account we have not been very good about posting on Facebook. The prospect of getting all of the information back up, the photos, the reviews… Anyhow, here’s to working harder at posting current photos! Here are some pics from Sommerville lake and downtown Lockhart
ISO 20,000 pounds of alfalfa, 80 to 100 round bales, Appx 500 square bales for 2024.
👀 ISO long-term distributor who will schedule with me for delivery giving me a few days notice prior, splitting up delivery of these items over the year ideally in approximately quarterly visits. 🙏
🐎💗🐎 ISO horse quality hay whether fertilized, irrigated, cut at the optimal time & top quality or low nutrient, (horse safe) cheaper forage. I just ask that my distributor is honest with what I am purchasing.
Also…
ISO both square and round bales of inedible, moldy hay.
🗣️🗣️🗣️LOCATION LOCATION LOCATION!
I have a fantastic location to sell round bales right off of 183 and the toll 130 and clients already interested in purchasing. If communication and delivery is straightforward and professional, I would love to consider larger quantities for distribution out of Lockhart, Texas located less than one mile from the very center of the city.
I am going to be on Facebook until at least November but then I will take a break for a while so I’m hoping to secure someone prior to that otherwise I’ll resume looking after the New Year. I can make it till the beginning of July of 2024 right now but hope to begin deliveries in early spring 2024.
Pls spread the word 🤠🙌🌎

Hellllooooo
Just a friendly reminder that this time of year gets busy and we may start to feel up for our group rides a week or two in advance. You are welcome to call and text and we will do our very best to get back to you but please be understanding that we cannot get back to every inquiry that we receive individually.
We take a very limited number of riders each week. We will do our very best to work in requests for private rides, particularly the Horsemanship Trail, so you are always welcome to reach out to us if you see a call to book and are unable to book online.
If you do decide to proceed forward with booking before speaking with someone, please make sure you read some of the reviews, both good and bad! They give you a good idea of the nature of the experience, which is instructional, straightforward, and I believe the words that have been used frequently are “no beating around the bush” 😂😂🤔😅🤠🙌
In order to maintain responsivity of the horses, which is exactly the way we like them, we need to be direct with guests.
Participants who show up with can-do attitude, eager to learn, and go with the flow, have a fantastic time, whether they are beginners, and a little nervous or more experienced riders.
Guests who are not looking for an instructional experience, are recommended to book elsewhere. There are lots of other opportunities in the area that cater to a more structured, typical nose to tail trail that is less instructional.
It’s great to have options. Check them out!
Book with Mavericks, if you are looking for an instructional ride on responsive horses, where you are receiving directions on how to improve what you are doing to make the experience for the horse more comfortable & maintain the forward and curious nature of the animal.
Walk trot TALLY HO!!!!
Good morning.

Pictures from today. Videos are in the previous post. yell if this starts killing my reach because I’m posting too much! Make sure you smash that like button or throw me some comments or something. Not trying to offend the social media bots 🙄
🫢🤭🫣😂😂😂😅
Folks, it takes a little bit of effort to clip down videos, so that they can get posted. Please remember this is just a courtesy, if it starts to create a problem, we will resort back to not sharing photos. It’s a time consuming courtesy. Please be grateful and patient! These are some photos and videos from today and I will be getting some more videos up over the next few days, each day, trying to go back to the last couple of weeks. I can only upload one video at a time, so check the comments for more photos from this walk trot canter and town tour group today.

Beautiful and loving, senior mare in need of a new pastures.
A light case of Cushings, which does not prevent riding, does need to be treated with daily medication.
“Madi” is 22 years old, but still has love to give. She has done well in account program, on the hunter jumper course, and as well has proven confident on trails and eventing.
Must go to a wonderful home. No lesson programs please unless if they have very light use and more of a retirement feel.

Hello! Joan Marie here 🤠
I would be *thrilled* to have a carraige company or enthusiastic entrepreneur (interested in starting a carraige company) to come to my property one mile from downtown Lockhart, bordering the gorgeous Lockhart city park and enjoying what is, hands down, some of the most scenic horseback riding in the area. I’ve trailered to the state parks for something fresh, but the truth is it just doesn’t come close to the diversity we enjoy here. 🌳🛤️🏰⛲️🎇📸📸📸📸
I would be *delighted* to share my staff to provide additional support to a developing business. While we host some rotating staff, our core team is *dynamite* and consists of long-term, employed w-2 beloved staff who are educated, well-rounded and *good humans* who enthusiastically help, show up and don’t sass 💁♀️ 💁♂️ 👎 They’re loyal, lovely and I’ll share them with you. 💗
I’ll *also* share marketing. I’ll share my horses. I’ll share my camera system 😉
I am available for hire! I ground drive like a maniac and I’ve driven carraiges and wagons but I would be a total novice. An eager, eager novice! 👩🎓
What I hope to gain out of this partnership is getting a productive carriage system running in town so they can run side-by-side when I do my trails into town for Bbq Tours. 🍖 We have a budding drill team developing, and it would be incredibly fun to have some pony sized carts involved in this endeavor as well. while we do not need to use my horses, it would be fantastic if they were trained to a cart. I’m totally confident that I have enough horses available that we can make this magic happen. I can lease my horses to someone interested, or someone can bring in their own horses and etceteras.
It would also be helpful to have some wagon rides available for events, as well as for larger riders, who are unable to go horseback riding with us. 🐎
Interested parties must have their own capacity already existing. I am not interested in hiring someone on payroll to develop this through my company. I want to contract someone running their own program. However, I can help get that program up and running with the infrastructure I have through my staffing agency.
Riding horses on gorgeous ranch land, through the park, and into the historical District is totally dynamite. Come ride with us!
(🐪 Also if you were wondering why camels… first I would ask “Why not?” And then I would say: MADE YA LOOK! 🙃 We’re so tight even the dogs can ride 😂)

If you are interested, in learning more about the program, you can sign up for the audit class online.
If you are ready to book a ride to go to www.maverickhorsebackriding.com
If you are interested in regular riding lessons, we have a fun and dynamic team learning how to do so many activities on horse, pack, ranging from moving herds, practical ranch work, roping, to drill, team, practice, field, jumping, and the fundamentals of Dressage.
A variety in instructors and horse breeds plus a diverse riding terrain make our working student program highly engaging.

Adventure hacking is a Maverick Horseback Riding speciality, starting over a rocky stream & ending up in the heart of Lockhart. The Square! Join us for for an invigorating ride, taking a look at beautiful historical architecture, and exchanging smiles and waves with the authenticity walking along Main Street.
This is a fun video clip because you get to see a lot of working pieces.
You see a third-year student going back to some much-needed basics with some solo work, staying straight on the curve, on our giant Percheron cross Taz. You see a novice rider, who has just about a dozen counters under his belt on one of our jumping horses, and the horse is calmly trotting over logs with Western Saddle. Fantastic that he can navigate the difference between jumping in an English saddle, and Trotting, over a pole in a western saddle, with a more inexperienced rider. Following Storm is a one-time rider on flea-bitten grey, Ghost, who came to visit us with some previous experience, but needed to understand some basics such as steering with outside pressure. There is another Horsemanship rider on Haughty in here who needed to work on some more fundamentals, and did get to trot, but did not canter in this, ride.
Taz, Ghost, Shock, and storm all got to work on some cantering today out in the field.
In this group were also to Ranch trail riders working at a walking pace, and someone learning how to pony.
So much!!
Sometimes people can’t understand how we manage different types of groups at the same time. Here is just one little clip in one of the scenic places we go where we do it: where we make magic happen!
It’s an entire one minute and 45 seconds if you think you can watch all the way through 😉 you can go to www.MaverickHorsebackRiding.com for more details
Pro tip:
Read the reviews before booking! Good and bad. We cannot get to all of the inquiries we receive individually (but we try!!)
Fire alert CALDWELL COUNTY
We can provide temporary assistance to livestock animal owners affected by fires in the Caldwell + Hays County areas.
If anyone is in need of immediate assistance, you can reach out to the Maverick business line at 512-230-8413. Because we are unable to answer all of the calls we receive you may need to leave a text message.
We have assistance available at a variety of locations. The most immediate by location would be our location in Lockhart, Texas, literally less than a half mile from the heart of downtown. Pictured here is our downtown Lockhart location.
Don’t worry about us for now! We are blessed to have our own evacuation plans in place currently although based on wind direction, we should be safe. Huge gratitude to P2 Farm for being there on standby all the years for all the things. (We got your back, too! 🙌 🐴 🐪 🐄 🐱 🐶 🐐)
God Bless
Charlotte has been sent off for some finishing work w a roper here in central Texas prior to being listed for a new zip code. He’s had wonderful things to report of her development. We are thrilled to be exploring a new market w/ our tried and true, performance quality horses. Just cause we don’t perform doesn’t mean they wouldn’t take home the shiny prize. Sadly, ribbons and buckles are not particularly exciting to us… adventure hacking in Texas waterways and field jumping take the cake. (Ps she forgave the old-school era jumping tactics of a Texas cowboy so we can too… forgive us our trespasses 😅)
We are looking at making a trip to Crystal Coral stables October 4-6 or 7.
I know for years many have been drooling over the concept of a beach trip so: here it is!
🤤 🏖️ 🐎
We are going to have to set plans in motion sooner rather than later, unfortunately Crystal corral is yet another horse facility on the market.
We do not have set pricing as this excursion is going to be a first for us, exploratory in nature, and opportunities to stay both overnight at the beach or come join us for the day for a full or half day.
Currently we need to know who is serious about coming so we can get preliminary plans in place.

It’s that time of year where travel begets travel so if you’re interested in taking a tour somewhere, feel free to reach out and let us know! 🙏 Keep in mind that all of our excursions are instructional. These horses are responsive and it’s up to the riders to alter what they are doing to get a better response from the horse. This is a coaching atmosphere. People who come with a can-do attitude excited about learning will enjoy this experience thoroughly! Folks who are looking to “just get on a horse and ride” we can happily refer to many other locations where a high level of instruction is not part of the experience. Having trouble getting in touch with us? Read a little bit online, including some good and bad reviews. You can book online and you can also check out Bella Peregrina Ranch, as far as we know, the only other entity that offers responsive rides in Texas. For a leisurely, standard nose to tail trail try SouthWest trails in San Antonio or Southern trails in Austin. #KeepTexasRiding #TexasHighways #TEXASTravel #TexasVacation #TexasToDos #TexasFun #TexasBBQ #TexasAdventure #Texasthings #Texas
