The "Down" Command! There are so many great uses for this behavior but most people see it as a simple way to get their dog to lay down. "Down" is an essential command for all types of working and non-working dogs. The command can be used in a variety of places and help the dog control their energy, focus and overall behavior. In this video our trainer demonstrates the hierarchy of a command in this video. They start by luring the dog with a treat, and then moves on to using a hand signal. Eventually, they fade away the hand signal and uses only body language to communicate with the dog. Finally, they are able to give the vocal command without any other cues.
