January 2025 is National Human Trafficking Prevention Month

January is also known as Human Trafficking Awareness Month, a key time for us to educate ourselves about human trafficking and crucially to learn to spot the signs of trafficking. It also provides an opportunity for us to take these messages to our workplaces, our communities, our school representatives, and everywhere else.

At Hope For Justice, we investigate cases of human trafficking and work closely with law enforcement to rescue victims and ensure evidence is gathered against perpetrators to see them brought to justice. Our team of investigators is drawn from some of the most respected and prestigious law enforcement agencies in the country, such as the FBI and NCIS.

National Slavery and Human Trafficking Prevention Month, January 2025, culminates in the annual observation of National Freedom Day on February 1, 2025.

What can you do?

Become part of a community of amazing volunteers, learn about the issue, or download resources. Awareness Ieads to action! To find out more about opportunities to partner with Hope for Justice, email:

Create the For The 150 symbol and share it on social media to raise awareness.

Use both hands - make a fist and show five fingers on the other. Then, ask someone to take a photo and share this on social media. This is a symbol to show you're standing up for the 50 million people in modern slavery. We're encouraging you to share the image with the hashtag

ARTS and CULTURE

Are you considering submitting under Arts and Culture? If not, consider the following options:

Canine Companions - such as making vests for dogs or stuffed puppies; make donations for dorm rooms or decorate dorm rooms at Regional Training Centers; or participate in the Canine Companions Signature Event - Dog Fest Walk' n Roll.

Heifer International - such as Construct and decorate a parade float designed to promote Heifer Internation and join in the next parade in your community or hand out bookmarks and "Cow Trail Candy" along the parade route.

March of Dimes - such as making blankets for babies to be distributed to military moms at baby showers sponsored by the March of Dimes; or create baby hats from the March of Dimes toolkit that provides instructions and guidance for pattern and size; or use your creative skills to make handmade costumes for babies in the NICU.

Sad news from Rio Grande City, just received the following:

Lydia Garza Saenz has passed away and was reunited with her husband and two children who welcomed her into heaven this afternoon.

Her daughter, Aissa Diaz, is heartbroken, as you can imagine. Please send up prayers for her and the other family members.

Lydia was a legend in our community, and an inspiring and tireless leader in Federation.

She was one of a kind, with amazing talents and gifts. A beautiful woman whose absence on earth will be felt deeply, she will always be remembered for her kindness, faith, courage, and elegance.

She left behind some pretty big shoes to fill.

❤️,
Mary Nettie
