Check out the colors on this stunning garter snake I removed from a sticky trap a few days ago! These snakes pose no threat to humans and feed on a wide variety of potentially harmful pests. It is important to remember that while glue traps may be efficient at catching your target pest they also pose a threat to many other beneficial creatures often resulting in a slow painful death.

For me it’s not just about snake removal and relocation it’s just as much about the people I interact with. I love having the opportunity to not only help these snakes that I care so much about but to also educate people and give them good experiences that they can look back on. Let’s be honest how often to you get to safely touch a live rattlesnake! These interactions are the reason I do what I do and I’ll never get tired of it.

This here is a rough green snake! Rough green snakes are relatively small non venomous snake species usually measuring between 12 and 30 inches in length. They are slender bodied snakes with green backs and yellow underbellies and spend most of their time in trees were they hunt small insects. Because they prey on insects these snakes are vulnerable to secondary poisoning caused by pesticides.

Check out this eastern hognose snake putting on a show! If there is a snake out there that deserved an acting award it’s the eastern hognose. As a defense mechanism these snakes will flatten their necks or even their whole body to appear much larger and more intimidating. They will also hiss loudly, bluff strike, secrete a foul smelling musk, and even play dead all in the name of self defense. Hognoses rarely ever bite and pose no threat to humans or pets. They feed primarily on frogs and toads and even have fangs in the back of their mouths that are specially designed to deflate puffed up toads in order to make them easier to swallow!

If you spend a lot of time in the garden remember to keep an eye out for visitors! I removed this beautiful coral snake from a garden in driftwood Tx. Gardens often provide good refuges for small snakes like garter snakes and rough earth snakes who feed on a variety of insects that can cause harm to the garden however these small snakes also happen to be the favorite food for coral snakes who may ocasionally take up residence in your garden. Coral snakes are very docile and shy snakes who do what they can to avoid or escape you however if restrained or grabbed they are capable of delivering a serious bite. It is always a good idea to use garden tools and gloves when working in your garden!

I did not take many photos during this removal so please enjoy the release video.

Responded to a call about a snake in a rabbit pen and ended up removing this large and beautiful western coachwhip (no bunnies were harmed). These snakes usually tend to be rather feisty and often bite when handled however this one was very polite and never bit once. Western coachwhips are a large and very fast non-venomous species that excel in chasing down their food often preying on rodents, lizards, birds, and even other snakes! When threatened they will often use their speed to quickly escape but if that fails they will stand their ground and defend themselves by biting, secreting a foul smelling musk, and even rattling their tails against nearby objects.

These snakes are excellent rodent and pest controllers for that reason this snake was realeased into a hay barn (with landowners permission of course).

The release video is in the comments for those that are interested.

I like to give all snakes that I relocate the best chance at survival. In this case, after responding to remove this young western diamondback rattlesnake from a residential neighborhood in Kyle Tx, I noticed that he/she was dehydrated and skinny. It stayed with me for a few days so that it could receive a good meal and some much needed hydration.

This snake received a frozen thawed mouse (you’ll notice a full belly in the second photo) and a warm water soak to help with the dehydration.

Release video is in the comments for those who are interested.

The Texas blind snake also commonly referred to as thread snake or worm snake is Texas’s smallest snake species. These snakes have a wormlike appearance with a silver sheen over their scales with a small hook like scale of the tip of their tail. These snakes are fossorial by nature spending the majority of their time under ground often emerging after heavy rains. They feed almost entirely on ant larva and termites and in some cases can even be a sign of termite infestation. Unlike most snakes they are unable to unhinge their jaws and are incapable of biting large threats. Instead when these snake feel threatened the will contort their bodies and smear f***l matter and regurgitated prey on any would be attacker. They will also use the spike like scale on their tail to poke and prod at the threat. That said these snakes are absolutely harmless unless you are an ant or termite.

My second coral snake removal in 3 days. I will never get tired of seeing these beautiful snakes. Check out the pattern abnormality on this ones back. With coral snakes spending most of their time under ground or in dense foliage specimens born with color or pattern variations are still usually able to make it to adulthood. While most people like to use the “red on yellow kill a fellow” and ”red on black venom lack” rhymes they can sometimes lead you astray with many cases of strange and unusual color variation existing within coral snake populations. The best advice is when in doubt leave it alone.

Had the pleasure of removing and relocating this stunning Texas coral snake! Don’t try this at home!!!

These snakes are very secretive and elusive by nature spending most of their time under loose foliage and leaf litter. While venomous These guys are often mild mannered and are not quick to bite however the can do so if they feel threatened. Coral snakes prey primarily on lizards and other snakes and can often be found at night or after a heavy rain. They are relatively small snakes reaching sizes of up to 30 inches and often no larger than an inch in diameter.

These photos were not taken at the release site but rather prior to heading to the release site. All snakes that I relocate are released far from humans and houses in habitats that best suits the snakes chances for survival.

The western rat snake also sometimes referred to as the Texas rat snake is one of the most common non-venomous snake species found across large parts of Texas with populations even branching into the eastern United States. The snakes typically average between 3-6 feet long as adults with largest on record measuring 7 ft 2 in. Hatchlings typically measure 11-16 inches. These snakes can be identified by a number of characteristics such as their blotched or saddled patterning that runs along their back and sides with yellow and orange coloration in between their blotched patterning. They have a mostly solid grey head with a dark stripe that runs between their eyes continuing down the sides of their faces toward the back of their head. However this stripe can fade with age. They have a very oval shaped head with large round eyes. Texas rat snakes are excellent climbers who feed primarily on rodents providing great pest control. They also feed on birds and eggs even those of domestic chickens which has earned them the nickname chicken snake. When threatened these snakes with often choose to flee however they may stand their ground in defense. If they feel they are unable to get away, they will often open their mouth and rattle their tails as a threat display. I hope this information is useful and as always for snake removals, identification, or questions contact me at 1 (432) 770-6157 and follow my page https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=61556589930022

Water snake VS cottonmouth/water moccasin how do you tell the difference? Let me help you out! The first 10 photos are all harmless water snakes the last 10 photos are all cottonmouth or as some people call them water moccasins. While similar in body shape and sometimes even coloration there are a number of key differences to look out for. First off water snakes have a much more rounded and oval shaped head with large eyes and circular pupils. While they will flatten their heads as a defense mechanism to make themselves look like their venomous counter parts however they also have black lines between the scales on their upper lips picture 8 is a good reference for this. Cottonmouths can be identified by their large blocky head, large square scale directly above their eyes they have a dark stripe that runs from the back of their eyes fading into the back of their heads. The fronts of there faces and bottom jaw are mostly white or cream colored with light brown striping and they have a large square scale on their upper lip between their nostrils unlike water snakes who have a series of smaller scales. When threatened cottonmouths will often stand their ground and open their mouths towards the threat showing of their white mouth for which they are named. It is always best to give snakes their space especially when unsure about the species, many bites that occur happen when trying to handle or harm the snake. I hope this information is helpful and as always for snake removals, identification, or questions contact me at 1 (432) 770-6157 or follow my page.
