Norville pupdate

Unfortunately we had to say goodbye to sweet Norville yesterday. The antibiotics were helping his infection, but he was weak and frail at this point to recover. He refused to eat and had no interest in food at all.

After reviewing his quality of life with the vet, it was clear he wouldn't recover and we let him go while he was still comfortable and loved.

Goodbye sweet boi ❤️

Meet Norville!

Norville comes from AAC in very rough shape. He is a sweet young senior at 12 years old but is currently at a crossroad with his health. He is severely underweight and has eye and upper respiratory infections. Norville still has a feistiness to him as he tells the vet to leave him alone or tell his foster mama he doesn't want meds, and when he gets his outside potty time he still has pep to prance around. So we have a good baseline of if it goes down or improves! 🤞

We are working to improve his condition and make him comfortable. If in the next few days if Norville is unable to eat consistently or infections do not improve, we will meet with the vet to discuss quality of life. We are being hopeful but making sure we keep his best interest in our hearts.

More updates to come, please send him good vibes ❤️‍🩹♥️

Good luck sweet Norville, we love you already!

Meet Maleficent!

Maleficent comes to us from the New Braunfels. Maleficent had been adopted and returned to the shelter 2 times for having a bad attitude. When she came to the shelter this last time, she was scared and nippy, but after a couple of weeks she had settled in and was being a sweet girl!

We were able to bring Maleficent into ACR, and into a foster home. Her foster fam had experience with little feisty chis, and was prepared to welcome the lil piranha. When she was picked up, she was scared and nervous, but it quickly became clear that Maleficent isn’t a crazy monster! Her foster mom says she is more like a jealous possessive gf 😂❤️

Maleficent does like her personal space, quiet time, cuddles & attention. She also does well with her foster siblings, but she will growl and show some teeth if she needs space from them. Maleficent LOVES blankets!!!!! Don’t you dare take it away from her 🤣. She loves to sleep, does well in the car, and even does well out and about on adventures. At night she sleeps in a crate with no issues. Maleficent is really a sweet girl, but is not a morning dog. And don’t talk to her before her morning coffee ☕😜.

Maleficent is about 8 years old and 8 lbs. Interested in adopting Maleficent? Fill out an application at www.aychihuahuarescue.org/adopt

Hilda doesn't understand why no one has snatched her up yet! Yeah she has lameness in her rear end and it makes her a little wobbly, and occasionally drops p**p nuggets if she gets too excited. But she says she is worth it! And we agree with her! We have been able to control accidents with routine and timing.

Hilda is ready for trick or treating soon, and wants you to know she is 💯 treat. She has no beef 🥩 with her foster mom, but she is ready to MOOve🐮 out and find her forever family. 🐄

Meet Maizie!

Maizie comes to us from the New Braunfels shelter. Sweet senior Maizie is about 12 years old, and 7 lbs. She had come into the shelter this summer and has been in foster with them since June 5th. In that time, her foster mama has worked wonders with her, getting her to gain about 2 lbs to get her to a healthy weight ❤️. This little girl had lost her spark after living a hard life, but thanks to her foster Maizie's spark has turned into a vibrant glow 🌟! She is now joining the ACR family in hopes that she can finally find the family of her dreams 🤞

Maizie is in her golden years, and has decided that she wants to enjoy the finer things in life... like unlimited chicken nuggets! Maizie is a low maintenance girl who likes to snooze throughout the day and prefers to stay close to her hoomans. She’s not a snuggler and doesn’t enjoy being held but she shows her love and appreciation with her soulful glances and the cutest greeting in the world when you come home. 🏡 ❤️ She joins in with the pack in the welcome-home greeting and you’ll get some playful bounces and licks.

Maizie is very close to becoming 100% housetrained and will let you know when she needs to go outside to do her business. She’s dog friendly and quite the introvert. She doesn’t mind being around the pack but doesn’t want to be friends. She takes some time to warm up and will observe from a distance until she knows she’s safe and that you have chicken nuggets.

⚠️Not accepting additional apps!

Meet Lilith!

Lilith is a diluted blue Chihuahua also known as 🪻 lavender. Lilith also comes from the Lockhart hoarding situation. Like the rest of the pups we have from there, she is perfectly imperfect ❤️.

Lilith is about 5 lbs, and 2 years old. She has some hair loss due to having recently given birth before being rescued. Unfortunately and tragically, no puppies were found at the house, so we have no idea if her pups survived. Lilith was post partum when she was rescued, and the vet estimated she had given birth just a couple days before rescue. Lilith has been spayed, but still has large mammaries that are slowly going down from having milk. 😢

Lilith is what I would refer to as socially antisocial. She is nervous around people, but wants to be near them. She warms up quickly, and wants to love and kiss you but is still not sure how to engage with people at times. She can be more nervous around men, but her foster dad is working to get her love and so far he is winning the battle over Lilith's heart. Lilith will get anxious and prance and pace around in an excited and nervous way trying to decide if she wants to jump on you and kiss you or run and hide. She is really just a precious baby who is dying to open up!

While the other pups we have pulled from the hoard have been housebroken, Lilith is not as lucky. She prefers to potty in a crate, or potty pad. She's trying to learn from her foster siblings, but will get so excited and anxious outside, she often doesn't take the time to stop and smell the grass.

Lilith does great with other dogs, but because she has anxiety, she needs a calm house. She does not thrive in environments with louder more energetic pups or peeps, and needs to have a chill fam to help her decompress.

Meet Irwin!

Irwin is such a lil muffin! At approximately 5 years old and 8.4 lbs, Irwin has the face of a puppy, and the eyes to melt you in one look 😍👀❤️.

Irwin was our most scared and stand offish pup from the Lockhart hoard. When we first got him from the house, he was sweet through the cage, but when you tried to handle him he would buck and nip. Once you were able to get him in your arms, Irwin would settle down and enjoy the calm and love, but every time you would try to pick him up for the first couple of days was very scary for him. On about day 3 or 4, he figured it out... You could pet his lil head and then just move down and scoop him up with no issues. Little Irwin was starting to understand that is the best way for him to get all the snuggles.

Now, after a week of being in foster, Irwin is doing great with new people, and has even started to play with new toys. His growth in such a short time has made us all so happy 😁.

Irwin is housebroken, and good with other dogs. He would not be good in a home with younger children at this point.

Meet Juni!

Juni is a shy little lady from the Lockhart hoard. She is approximately 3 years old and about 6 lbs. Juni is an antisocial little girl and is working hard on her social skills. She is scared of new people, and being picked up, but once you scoop her up she will settle in for some snuggles. She can get startled easily especially in new settings.

Her foster family is helping her come out of her shell, and working towards a more social lil Juni.

Juni likes to be near people, but is still unsure about engaging directly. She will occasionally give you a run by sniffing, or crawl on the sofa to be near you but not touching. She has fallen madly in love with the plush doggy beds in her foster house. She also is very food motivated, and can be bribed with treats. Juni is slowly opening up to her foster family, and boy is she worth the wait! In fact, they even got a little happy tail wag from her and she is just getting more amazing every day!

Juni does great with other pups and is comfortable with small and medium sized dogs. Since Juni has anxiety, she is not a fit for a loud house or a family with children. Juni will need a family that is patient and will help her continue to learn how to Chihuahua.

Interested in Juni, fill out an application at www.aychihuahuarescue.org/adopt

Meet Honey 🍯!

Honey is as sweet as her name! She's also as sticky cause she is a stage 10 clinger! Honey is slow moving at first when meeting new people, but once she has stolen your heart with her golden/brown eyes, she switches to crazy stalker mode and clings to you forever!

Honey comes to us from the Lockhart hoard, and is just darling as can be. She is approximately 3-4 years old and 8.75 pounds.

Honey does great with other dogs, but once she has bounded with her human, she is protective about new dogs trying to move in on her claim. She will get growly and territorial. If the dog was in the home before her, she respects the existing pecking order, but will make sure any new pups know that her hoomans are hers.

Honey is potty trained and will follow you everywhere. She will even make sure you know she loves you by sneaking up behind you and giving little ankle kisses so you don't forget it! She has the craziest eyes and is so intense with her staring that you have 0 chance of not falling in love with her sweet kooky self.

Honey is ready for her forever home and will be able to go as soon as she is spayed next week. Interested in adopting Honey 🍯, fill out an application at www.aychihuahuarescue.org/adopt

Meet KitKat

Lil KitKat joins ACR from PVAS. Immediately when we took this boy out of his transport kennel, we could tell that he is something special.

KitKat is about 1 years old, and 9 lbs. When he came out of the kennel, he had a noticeable swagger. KitKat was born with a skeletal defect that has caused a curving of his front legs. That along with some rear leg weakness gives him an extra wiggle in his walk. But despite everything, he is such a happy healthy boi. KitKat is able to be the most calm and patient boi, then is ready to play and zoomie on the drop of a dime.

KitKat wanted to take a moment to introduce himself:

"Hiya! My name is KitKat. They tell me that I’m 1 years old. I have lots of energy and love to play. I will play with anyone. I don’t care if you’re bigger or littler than me, I don’t discriminate. I can be vocal at times too. But my foster mom is teaching me not to bark so much. She uses a water bottle to stop me and I don’t like it. I love going outside. I try using the doggie door but the one at my foster home is a little too big for me. But I still try. I’m mostly house trained as long as someone lets me out in time. I try my bestest not to have accidents. I sleep in a crate but would also love to sleep in bed with you. I love to give kisses and love getting scritches even more. They are my favorite! I really want my very own family. Will you give me a chance? I promise to be a good boy. Please!!!!!"

Meet Gracie Lou!

Gracie Lou comes to us from a hoarding situation in Lockhart. With her sweet, and social personality, you never guess that this baby comes from a family with about 100 other pups! Gracie is approximately 5-6 years old, and about 7.2 pounds.

You may notice that this little girl has a bald head. Well Gracie's coloring is referred to as blue and white, and some blue chis have a gene that causes the blue to not grow fur. But Gracie's white coat is fluffy and soft as can be, and her nekkid blue skin is so soft too... She's just soft and perfect from bald head to fuzzy toe ❤️

Gracie does well with other dogs, and does great with children and adults. She loves to snuggle, play, and roll around like a little weasel.

Gracie does unfortunately have mammary tumors since she was not spayed previously. She is scheduled for a spay and they will evaluate if they want to remove the masses now, or wait until after the spay so that it can shrink before removal later.

Gracie is so full of love and is truly just a happy little chi girl, we are hopeful that her surgery will go well ❤️‍🩹. We are asking for donations to help pay for her surgery and testing to see if it is cancerous.

If you are interested in adopting Gracie Lou, fill out an application at www.aychihuahuarescue.org/adopt

Congratulations Emily!

Emily's eye is now open, and just in time to see the momma of her dreams! The last couple of months have been a whirlwind for her, and it was worth it all to end up being in a home with a new mom who just adores her.

A week ago a plea went out from for rescues to help with a hoard situation in Lockhart. A family had reached out and surrendered 100 dogs and CCAC moved quickly to get them out of the house and avoid the risk of them having to go to a shelter. ❤️❤️

After just a couple of fast hectic days, with the help of rescue volunteers and family members, all dogs were successfully placed with rescue groups and over the week they all began receiving veterinary care!

All 100 had been living inside with their owner, and had varying degrees of behavior and medical needs. We were able to pull 4 pups from the hoard, and are excited to introduce the most perfectly imperfect babies!

Meet Juni, Gracie, Honey, and Irwin!

We will post individual intros for each pup, but wanted to give you a chance to just see how beautiful it is when people come together and help. When a family in need made a hard decision to bring something like this to light and to the public, people worked together to help and put the dogs needs first.

More updates to come!

Meet Fae!

Fae is our own faerie princess 👑🧚‍♀️. She is approximately 10-12 years young, and just under 6 lbs.

Fae is perfect in every way! 💓 She is friendly with every hooman she meets, adults and kids alike. She just wants to look at you with her gold brown eyes so you can feel how much she loves you. Fae gets along in a pack or does well alone. She will bark at big dogs that pass her by, as if she's trying to tell you that "that horse looks weird", but so far has had no actual aggression or interest when one comes close. Fae has some hair loss from a flea infestation and her coat is working hard to fill back out. She also still has some good puppy energy, and will play bow with excitement and get some zoomies!

Fae is also a lover of the arts. She got to help host our pottery class last week, and she captivated the whole class with her sculpting techniques as she sculpted her very own Chi-David...ok maybe she had some help, but she did model with it and looked gorgeous 🥰

Fae would love to spend all day curled up with you, in a lil dog bed snuggled up, or basking in the sun 🌞

Sweet Orion is still available!

Orion has been taking more baby steps towards learning to dog since his brothers were adopted.

He's happy to announce that he has graduated to "roommate" status. This means he is interested in what his foster mom is doing but now is ready to be 💯% social when she's cooking or in the kitchen to see "whatcha eating", and "got any leftovers". Then after leeching for treats and snacks, Orion goes back to nap and wait for the next kitchen adventure.

Ori is still not convinced he is into snuggles, but he's still learning what being a "spoiled rotten chi" means to him.

Ori is looking for a home with no children, and a calm patient environment where he can continue to grow and be happy.

Interested in Orion, fill out an application at www.aychihuahuarescue.org/adopt

Huge shout out to Enkindle Pottery and ACR volunteer Emily for throwing this amazing and fun event for fundraising for us!

We had a full class and people got to come and make their own custom pet bowls! Big and small. We were completely shocked at how amazing they all came out 😍🥰! People who had never touched clay before were able to learn and make a bowl that looks like they were made by a seasoned professional ❤️🐕

They are drying and will be glazed over the next couple of weeks, and we will be excited to share some final results soon!

Fosters Dougie and Fae even got their paws dirty with some chi sculpting and the results were... interesting 🤔

So much fun and great company for a great cause! Interested in learning to do pottery, or just want to have a fun outing with some friends trying something new, GO TO ENKINDLE!!!

Thanks again Enkindle and everyone who participated!!!
