Meet Ember

Ember may be small at just 5.5 lbs, but she has a heart full of potential waiting to shine! At around 4 years old, this delicate little girl is looking for a patient and loving home where she can learn to trust and feel safe.

She’s a quiet observer who loves to be near her person 🥰 and she’ll follow you everywhere, just to keep you in sight. Ember might not be ready for cuddles just yet, but with time, she’s sure to warm up. Treats are the way to her heart; cheese, weenies, eggs… she’s not picky! When she sees snacks, she does the cutest little happy dance 💓

Ember enjoys the sunshine and prefers warmer weather, so she’d love a cozy spot by the window or in a sunny yard☀️. She uses potty pads and seems to want to be part of the family, she just needs a little time to build up her courage.

If you have the patience to let this sweet girl bloom at her own pace, Ember will reward you with quiet companionship and, one day, maybe even a snuggle. Could you be the one to give Ember the love and security she needs?

Orion is still here and still looking for the perfect forever home.

After almost 8 months Orion finally trusts his foster mama and shows no signs of being bitey with her❤️🥰. She still has to “trap” him in his crate to pick him up for scratches and grooming but he’s getting better. He also seems to secretly enjoy the attention even though it's overwhelming for him. He still has stranger danger and is a handful at the vet. He will fear p**p and p*e when he’s really stressed out 💩💩💩😰

Ori is totally comfortable in his foster home and wants nothing more than a warm place to sleep and regular meals and snacks. He also needs doggy friends to snuggle and help show him the way of the spoiled dog life. He might come around to being a people dog someday but no promises. If he does, it will take a long time for him to trust and relax.

Ori needs a very special adopter with loads of love, patience, a secure fence, no kids, and experience dealing with feral baby chis. He’s definitely worth the wait.

Meet Dusty!

Dusty is a tiny 3.5 lb fragile senior boi. At approximately 12 years old, he found himself at the Harker Heights shelter with a mouth full of rotten teeth and I dire need of a comfortable and loving home.

Dusty was severely underweight, and has gained some weight since being with his foster family. Dougie was able to quickly get a dental appointment, and they were able to remove all of his rotten and painful teeth, leaving him with one toof left!

Dusty is a chill boi and is looking for a calm environment where he can thrive. He's been working on housebreaking, but will regress if stressed out too much. Dusty will find any dog bed in the house and go snuggle alone or with foster siblings. Dusty is friendly and sweet as can be, and is very calm and just loves to be able to be himself, perfect chill fluffy boi ❤️🥰. He is sweet and sensitive and will need a special home who understands how to support his need for calm and love.

Congratulations Maleficent!

After months of foster care and 2 returns to the shelter fashion icon Maleficent, now Maggie, has met her match! She's promised to be on her best behavior and to have minimal tantrums and her mom looks so proud of her new diva daughter ❤️.

Tiny Tim has grown to be a substantial boi, but to his new mom and dad, he will always be their baby boy! You can just see the joy and love this new family has. We are so happy they found each other!

Meet Addie!

Sweet Addie mama comes from the Abilene shelter and they believed she is the mother of both Shiloh and Uliana.

Addie is approximately 8 years old and about 5 lbs. In the shelter, Addie was the most terrified of the 3. But once she was brought into a home and given a few days of space and treats, she became a completely different pup! She went from growling and nipping, to sitting on your shoulders and kissing your face.

Once she learns to trust her hooman, she absolutely is in love with them and is just a very loving girl. But little Addie is a slow burn, she needs time and treats to warm up. In the short term, she is a little shark and needs to be wooed.

Addie gets along with other pups, but is not a fan of big dogs. She does well with other small pups and is just a sweet affectionate girl ❤️. She needs to be in a calm home where she can come out of her shell and you will for sure reap the benefits of your patience!

Congratulations Rose!

From kill list to Colorado!!! The last few weeks have been a fairytale for our sweet little Rose. She was brought to the shelter unable to use her back legs, severely bruised abdomen, and now she is happy go lucky girl without a care in the world! Her new mama flew into Austin last night and it was love at first sight! Rose is on her way home to CO now, and is going to be spoiled for the rest of her life!

Willa Pupdate!

A week after her surgery, little Willa is feeling better everyday. She's giving happy tail wags, and sweet eyes to her foster mom.

1 week post op, and 11 more to go! Willa has an extra long post op care because of the extent of her trauma. The surgeon got new X-rays before and after and was able to see she has multiple hairline fractures in her pelvis, as well as a partially torn ACL. They were able to repair the ACL, and the pelvic fractures will heal over the next several weeks since she is on minimal activity for the remaining 11 weeks. This means baby Willa can't play, jump, or run. But we know it will all be worth it in a few months when she is healed up!

The surgeon said her injuries are common with a hit by car or fall from a high drop, like off a 2nd or 3rd story balcony.

We are so thankful she's doing so well and will give more updates as she gets better and her personality shines more and more!

Please Help!!!!

We have some long term fosters here that are still waiting for their forever homes. We need help getting these precious babies into homes so that we can continue with our mission to save more Chihuahuas, and honestly, because they are great babies and really deserve the opportunity to have their own families ❤️

Our longest foster is Orion, 5-8 years old and 7 lbs, and has been with us since this summer in June. Orion is great with other dogs, but is not great with people and really just wants a family with patience where he can just exist with peace and calm, and hopefully get a chance to bond and open up. Orion can nip and should be in a home with no children.

Next Up from August is Dougie, 6ish years and 12ish lbs. Dougie is our thiccc boi with the bluest blue eyes. Dougie has been doing so well with his growth. He can be scared in new environments, and originally was a nippy boi, but it has been months since he's had an incident! He loves to play with his foster brother, and has really become a very chill squishy dude!

The next 3 all came in in October, and all still need placement!
Maleficent, 8 yrs and 8 lbs, came in after having been returned to the shelter twice for being bitey. Since then she has improved a lot, but can still nip when she wants to rest and you try to bug her.

KitKat, a young 1 year old and 8 lbs, fuzzy chi mix that loves to play and cuddle. He is able to be serious when needed, but would loooove a smaller playmate and lots of toys.

And lastly in our long term fosters, Irwin. Irwin, 5 yrs and 8.5 lbs, has had several applications that all fell through. Like most of the other long term fosters, he came in a nippy boi, but over time he has really become a good boi, and is just becoming more and more social.

With all the above pups, they do require time to warm up to new people, and can take weeks to settle in to see more of their real personalities. With the exception of Orion, these babies do love to cuddle and love having a person with them.

Willa pupdate

Today is the day, Willa has her surgery to fix her broken leggy!!

She's been opening up more and more every day! From a scared baby in pain, to a more confident and loving tiny. She is still underweight but has been eating more and more like a good sweet girl!

We are already so in love with this tiny girl and are so excited for her healing to start!

We are in need of donations to help with her expenses!! So please share and donate if possible 🙏🥺

We also wanted to do a huge thank you to who has been so amazing helping with affordable care for our recent special needs babies. They have been an incredible team to work with as they are getting their new clinic started! ❤️

The Return of Freddie!

Sure it sounds like a horror show, but it plays out more like an Action movie. Freddie was adopted back in 2022. In the last couple of years, his family life has had a lot of changes. With all of the changes, it changed the dynamic between Freddie and his fur sister. When their mom was traveling for work, they were staying with the pet sitter, and they got into a fight. Unfortunately Freddie is a lot smaller than his sister and he was left in bad shape. He received multiple lacerations that required staples, and also a broken leggy.

Freddie's mom made the hard decision to return him because his situation was no longer safe for him. Even though it broke her heart, she knew that to make sure both dogs could be secure and live a happy life, Freddie needed to find a new family.

Freddie had surgery this week to fix his broken leg and he is on his way to recovery ❤️

Freddie is still on medical hold until the vet gives him the green light to go to his forever home. He is already pending adoption by his previous back up! This boi is so sweet they are still interested 2 years later!
