Update: Tux has been found! ❤️

Missing black/white cat - Austin/Central Texas

Tux the cat was on her way to the vet with her owner via Lyft. When the owner exited the vehicle and began walking to the other side to retrieve Tux’s carrier from the rear floorboard opposite where they had been seated, the Lyft driver sped away, ignoring the owner’s frantic pleas for them to stop.

Tux’s owner made multiple attempts to contact the Lyft driver, made a police report, and contacted Lyft for assistance. Eventually, the Lyft driver stated he did not know where Tux was and that he took multiple rides later that day. It’s unknown where Tux is, if the Lyft driver contributed to her disappearance, or if another passenger took Tux after their ride in the Lyft vehicle.

Tux is a black/white female cat that was inside a blue/black soft carrier and her last known location was in North Austin. She could be anywhere…on the roadside, in a dumpster, given away for free or sold, etc.

Test results from “Barking Springs” have come in: the sampled algae mats tested positive for Dihydroanatoxin-a, a potent neurotoxin. The water itself tested negative, which means as long as the toxins are only found in the algae, exposure to the toxin would happen by handling or ingesting the algae. Dogs can be exposed by licking the algae off their fur or drinking water with algae particles in it.

Advice for people + pets:
🚫Don't drink the water, touch or ingest algae
🚿Rinse off after being in water

July 4th is the #1 day that pets go missing in the US each year. Your pet is counting on YOU to keep them safe.

Get the dogs out to potty early, then keep them inside with music on and a dark place for them to hide. If your pet has been prescribed a sedative for stressful events, give it to your pet 2 hours before dark.

Other pets (as well as wild animals) are all at risk of injury and death too. Keep the lights on for your pet birds so they don’t thrash uncontrollably in their cage or fly into walls, give the cats a safe place to hide, and if you have livestock- try to bring them inside a barn or small paddock/pen so they can’t get up enough momentum to cause severe damage if they try to run through or jump over a fence. Horses are especially at risk.

If you can be home with your pets, please do. If a situation arises, you are their best chance at surviving and recovering.

**DURING FIREWORKS PLEASE KEEP YOUR PET INDOORS, CARE FOR YOUR PETS MORE THAN EVER NOW!** This picture is real and is not photoshop, the photo was taken last July and was shared by some rescue friends and it was so heartbreaking to see it....the pet sitter who posted it, says the dog was left outside by his owners and when she came to check on the dog next day this is what she found...a pound of blood and glass broken, the dog was in desperation and panicked when he heard the fireworks, I cannot imagine how stressed out that baby was to get inside of his house to feel safe... and the dog made it alive, injured and wounds around his face and paws, owner took to the vet but unnecessary trauma for the dog...I was one who used to enjoy fireworks, but not anymore...scared to heck many domestic pets and wild animals as well, humans don't think that someone else suffers with our traditions...we celebrate and they are in hell...basically is that. PLEASE KEEP YOUR PETS indoors!...turn on the radio, the TV, find a good room for them to be far from the windows or areas where they can hurt themselves, talk to your vet about some possible meds can calm them down and relax them...Lavender oil, Benadryl, and PetEze supplement (sold in petsmart) can help your dogs...but again, more important, KEEP THEM INSIDE!...

The dogs tore up my old doggie pool last week, so Opie here has been making do with this little black bucket. He had no complaints at all…and now I think he actually prefers it! 😂

Let your dogs come enjoy a taste of country life with in-home boarding on my little acreage in Cedar Creek!

*Farm animals and boarding dogs are kept separate for everyone’s safety. The chickens have a whole ½ acre to keep away from the dog yard, but Jess (the chicken) seems to enjoy the shenanigans.

My heart goes out to the families of all the animals lost, staff of Ponderosa Pet Resort, and owner of the boarding facility where 75 animal lives were lost last night in a tragic fire. 💔
