This one took a minute to wean my prompts off. ❤️❤️ So proud of him! - Nikki ❤️✨
How much is your horse paying attention to your body language and subtle cues? Are they aware of even the slightest change in your energy and movement? Your connection to your horse should be one that they quickly and easily, notice and respond to it all. From the moment you pick up your leadrope, shows you how they are paying attention to you in the saddle. Perfect your basics, and everything else gets easier.
If you haven’t yet heard, on Sunday, Dec. 31 I’m launching a brand new course showing you exactly how to build that confidence and connection with your horse, in just 8 weeks from your home barn on your own schedule. If you are ready to make this commitment, to build a relationship with your horse centered on mutual trust and respect, the time is now! You will have 8 weeks of step by step lessons with ample support and discussion with a professional.
Upon sign up, not only will you gain access to my private horsemanship group where the course will take place, but you’ll also get a FREE 30 minute bonus video, walking you through the step by step process I take to build connection with all of my horses!
Plus, there is more! When you sign up and make your first, or in full payment by Dec. 22, you will be given an extra week of coursework, FREE! That’s 9 weeks of courses, over a $550 value for either a one time payment of $400 or weekly payments of $50 paid through Stripe or Venmo.
Refer a friend who signs up and get 10% off your course fee. Check out my page for more details. PM me for the sign up link. I can’t wait to get you your bonus video, and I can’t wait to add you to the group!

I’m pretty proud of how this fruit loop is coming along. ❤️
I am absolutely in LOVE with Maverick’s natural curiosity! I have taken my time gentling him, really hoping not to turn off that aspect of his personality and it’s paying off. He is going to be a hard one to let go of. He will be available through the Extreme Mustang Makeover auction at the end of the competition. #7985 #Maverick #emmky2021 #mustang #mustangheritagefoundation
This video sums up a very brief synopsis of how I’ve been progressing with Maverick. He is naturally a very curious and confident gelding. I’m capitalizing on that, by allowing his natural curiosity to lead our training sessions. I use positive reinforcement along with an approach and retreat method, retreating when he shows signs of discomfort or stress. I’ve found that the retreat, draws him in and keeps him interested in being with me and working with me in “my world.” You can see a bit of this in a clip I filmed a couple days ago. To back off when he needs it, shows him that I can see his concern and I will respect it. It’s really allowed his trust in me to flourish, and I’m excited to see how such a solid foundation of trust will influence everything else we accomplish down the road. #7985 #Maverick #emmky2021
#7985 has a name now: Maverick ❤️
Maverick will be available at the adoption auction concluding the virtual Extreme Mustang Makeover at the end of June. Let me know if you’d like more details.
His best friend, Goose (formerly #2489) will also be available through either the Mustang Heritage Foundation’s TIP program or private purchase from me. PM me for more details and info on him too.
I’m so happy with where my EMM horse is. A week in and he is calm, curious, and trusting enough to explore me, eat with me, and let me brush my finger on his nose. I am confident this comes from meeting him where he is at, and showing him I’m listening to him, instead of pushing my personal agenda on him. As humans it is so hard to put our agenda aside and pay attention to what our horses need. But with Mustangs especially, I think this is the best way to build a solid, trusting relationship. #7985 #emmky2021
Gentling Mustangs is so bittersweet for us. It’s the biggest emotional investment we put in to our work with horses. The whole process is a roller coaster of emotion. From bringing them in wild, taking the time it takes to build enough trust just to touch them, until the time comes where you’ve built such a relationship that they are happy to be with you and would rather be with you than on their own.... and it’s at that time, that we have to let them go. Each one leaves such an imprint on our hearts. After an extended stay, Leo will be going to his new home in Oklahoma next week. We will be so sad to see him leave, but look forward to having the room to bring in a few more and start the process again. #leo #7213 #mustangheritagefoundation

Let’s talk about neck reining. It is so important that the horse first learns to give to pressure and soften with some bend when steering. This is why you teach softness and bend with direct contact. If you teach softness and bend, and gain shoulder control first, neck reining is there when you ask for it, and it is soft and relaxed. How is your horse carrying itself when you ask them to neck rein? How did you teach it?
