SIT Service Dogs Support and Independence through Teamwork Recipients often report a greater sense of control, confidence, and independence after being partnered with a dog.

Sit (Support & Independence through Teamwork) trains and places service dogs with people who have physical disabilities. We work from an all encompassing paradigm; a service dog needs to assist their human partner not only through performing daily tasks such as turning on lights, opening doors, or retrieving dropped objects, but needs to provide a level of comfort and social support to their peop

le. Our dogs are trained assist with the daily chores that most mobility dogs perform as well as recognize/respond to withdrawn behaviors, anxiety, and episodic depression. This means more trips to the movies, out to dinner, shopping, and new adventures!

We serve the disabled community. Full stop. But as a part of a community we truly value, we also feel intense respect for the species who gives us so much. Our clients will tell you how their canine partners will put themselves in harms way. Stories of heroism, unconditional love, deep bonds, and REAL living. As a part of that respect and investment in our community, we feel NO DOG should be left behind. When we lose our empathy for animals, we lose our humanity.
This poor dog wandered up on Sunday covered in mats, ticks, burs, and disgusting wet fur. Her tail was MATTED TO HER BACK. She's old, sweet, and easy going. Without going into specifics, there are strong hints she came from a mill-type breeding facility. I opt not to think of who did this to her (JERK) but instead how we move forward. She'll need special care. For the foreseeable future, she'll be crashing with SIT. If you're interested in helping, reach out! We'll need help with her expenses.
Look for updates. Oh! It seems she's only been known by a number up until now and even though she can't hear it, we feel like she should have a proper name. We're thinking Ouiser, Kreature, or Blanche. Any thoughts?

Congratulations to our newest hardworking service dog teams! We were honored to host Spring Graduation Training Camp 2024 for our SIT graduates at Giant City Lodge. The tranquility of the park and hospitality at the lodge provided a wonderful place for our teams to begin their journeys with their new canine partners. There were so many beautiful moments. To the families who joined us this weekend; we could not have asked for a better group to rollout our first graduation hosted at Giant City State Park! Moving venues was unchartered territory for us and your hardwork, kindness, and effort was incredible. To my staff and students who gave it their all this weekend; we're acutely aware of how lucky we are to have such an awesome team. Thank you. Rest up and we'll do it all again in a few short weeks! Lastly, to the family and staff at Giant City Lodge and Cabins; thank you for your patience and gentle words. Truly a pleasure to work with. You helped this weekend run so smoothly! And what a beautiful weekend it was!
