“Hey, trainer Meagan, does this still count as down? Technically my belly never left the ground!” ~Oakley our queen negotiator
Loki, the 4-month-old Shepherd/Husky mix, nailed his 'down' in front of a busy Home Depot like a pro! 🐾 His progress is so impressive that his parents upgraded him to a 3-week Board & Train, setting him up for success for life!
Bam Bam took on Lowe’s for his public training session yesterday and CRUSHED it!
It seemed to be “Dog Day” at Lowe’s yesterday so we encountered numerous people and dogs which was super beneficial for working Bam Bam through his reactivity and anxiety.
He did awesome and we couldn’t be more proud!
Training a dog is all about focus—and that means both for the dog and for us as trainers!
Distractions are part of the process, but learning how to work through them is key to success. Watch Chief in action, showing off his skills while out working at Country Junction. This is the perfect example of how staying focused, even with distractions around, makes all the difference in training!

Training Tips Tuesday: Maintaining Control and Encouraging Calm Behavior When Guests Enter Your Home 🐾
Having guests over can be exciting for your dog, but it's important to maintain control and encourage calm behavior as people enter your home.
Here are a few simple tips to help your dog stay relaxed and well-mannered:
Set Expectations Early: Before guests arrive, take a moment to prepare your dog. Practice a “settle” command or a place command, encouraging your dog to stay calm in one spot when people arrive.
Use Leash Control: If your dog tends to get overexcited, having them on a leash when guests first arrive can help maintain control while reinforcing calm behavior.
Reward Calmness: Reward your dog for calm behavior during the greeting. This encourages positive associations with visitors and helps reinforce good habits over time.
Stay Consistent: Practice these techniques regularly, not just when guests are coming over, so your dog understands what’s expected in different situations.
A little training can go a long way in ensuring that both your dog and your guests have a pleasant experience when they walk through the door!

🐾 Teaching Your Dog to Ignore Food for Safety and Good Manners 🐾
In dog training, one important skill that’s often overlooked is teaching our dogs to ignore food — not just for training purposes, but for their safety and to promote good manners around food. Here’s why this behavior is essential:
Safety First: In real-world situations, there are many dangers associated with food that’s not meant for dogs (like chocolate, onions, or harmful human food). Teaching your dog to leave food alone can prevent accidents or poisoning.
Building Self-Control: By training your dog to resist the temptation of food, you're strengthening their impulse control. This translates to better behavior in various situations, from staying calm when food is around to resisting distractions during walks.
Good Table Manners: Whether it’s at home during meals or in public spaces, a dog that ignores food helps keep your space clean and your relationship with others respectful. No more begging at the table!
Better Focus in Training: Teaching your dog to stay focused and avoid food distractions can enhance their overall responsiveness during training, leading to faster learning and more enjoyable sessions.
Training your dog to ignore food is all about setting boundaries that keep them safe and help them become more well-mannered in everyday situations. Start small, stay consistent, and watch your dog develop better self-control!

Training Tip Tuesday: Crate Training for Dogs 🐾
Crate training is a valuable tool for both you and your pup! It provides them with a safe, secure space while helping with potty training, preventing destructive behavior, and easing travel anxiety. Here are a few tips to get started:
Start Slow: Introduce the crate gradually. Let your dog explore it with the door open and reward them with treats and praise when they go inside.
Make it Positive: Create a positive association with the crate by adding a cozy blanket, toys, and a few treats. Avoid using the crate for punishment.
Short Sessions First: Begin with short periods of time in the crate and gradually increase the duration as your dog gets more comfortable.
Never Force It: Allow your dog to enter the crate voluntarily. Forcing them can lead to negative associations and resistance.
Consistency is key! With patience and positive reinforcement, your dog will learn to love their crate as a safe, comfy spot.
