We love all of our furry friends so we wanted to highlight some Holiday safety tips for our pet parents. Holidays are peak times for lost animals and poison control calls. If we do our part, we can ensure our pets have a fun, engaging, and safe holiday!
1. When giving scraps or human holiday food to your pup, try to avoid spices, high-fat, and high-salted items. Our dogs get most scraps during the cooking process before spices are added. For example: Pure pumpkin is great for dogs but not when it has spices and becomes a pumpkin pie.
2. Be extra careful if you are having guests over as opening and closing the door/gate can result in lost dogs and cats. Animals that would not normally go out the door or gate, might with all the extra noise and people coming and going.
3. Make sure your dog or cat is wearing their collar on the day(s) you are having guests or traveling. That way if they do get out, it will be easier to get them returned home. If you can get your pet chipped (usually discounted at your local Humane Society) before the Holidays, that is even better. But in a pinch, take masking tape or painter's tape and make a makeshift collar or tag with your information written on it.
4. Make sure they have a space to decompress. Even we humans get tired of company, and our pets are no different. If you can provide enrichment such as a lick mat, treat dispenser, yak chew, or chew bone, that will help them relax in their space even more.
Happy Thanksgiving from your B&S Boarding team!
