We love all of our furry friends so we wanted to highlight some Holiday safety tips for our pet parents. Holidays are peak times for lost animals and poison control calls. If we do our part, we can ensure our pets have a fun, engaging, and safe holiday!

1. When giving scraps or human holiday food to your pup, try to avoid spices, high-fat, and high-salted items. Our dogs get most scraps during the cooking process before spices are added. For example: Pure pumpkin is great for dogs but not when it has spices and becomes a pumpkin pie.
2. Be extra careful if you are having guests over as opening and closing the door/gate can result in lost dogs and cats. Animals that would not normally go out the door or gate, might with all the extra noise and people coming and going.
3. Make sure your dog or cat is wearing their collar on the day(s) you are having guests or traveling. That way if they do get out, it will be easier to get them returned home. If you can get your pet chipped (usually discounted at your local Humane Society) before the Holidays, that is even better. But in a pinch, take masking tape or painter's tape and make a makeshift collar or tag with your information written on it.
4. Make sure they have a space to decompress. Even we humans get tired of company, and our pets are no different. If you can provide enrichment such as a lick mat, treat dispenser, yak chew, or chew bone, that will help them relax in their space even more.

Happy Thanksgiving from your B&S Boarding team!

Please consider the below information when lighting fireworks this year. They can be scary and dangerous to everyone and everything. Here are some guidelines for your dogs to keep them safe and sound. More dogs run away or are lost on July 4th than any other day.

1. Make sure your dog is wearing a collar the week before and after the 4th as firework usage sometimes goes on before and after the holiday. You can use a piece of painter's tape with your info on it as an emergency collar or dog tag
2. Make sure doors, gates, and windows are locked so that your dog(s) can not get out when they get scared.
3. Watch for bolting as people are coming and going from your home, if you have dog sitters, especially if you have children. If a dog(s) gets scared, they may take advantage of a slow-closing door
4. Walk your dogs outside to go to the bathroom, just so they feel more safe with you there and you can correct any behavior or opportunity that could result in them getting out of your yard,
5. Since you never know when someone is going to let a firework off, it is best to be ready at all times and not let your guard down.
6. Try to provide a safe space for your pet over the next several days. Try having music playing, the TV volume up, or whatever to help them feel safe.
7. Just because your dog has never shown fear around fireworks before, doesn't mean they won't now. Always be as prepared as possible.

Thank you for helping us keep everyone safe.

Thank you for your service Zeke♥️

After more than 7 years of dedicated service to the Town of Danville, and another 3 years enjoying retirement at home with K9 Handler, Sergeant Jeff Slayback, we regret to inform our community that K9 Zeke passed away last night.

K9 Zeke was responsible for the apprehension of a large number of criminal suspects and the detection of a large amount of illegal drugs and narcotics over his extremely decorated 7 year career with the Danville Metropolitan Police Department. K9 Zeke undoubtedly made the streets of Danville a much safer place. K9 Zeke did all of this with a tennis ball in his mouth and a drive each and every day to be the best dual purpose K9 in the area. We applaud K9 Zeke’s dedicated service to our community and will not soon forget his commitment to our department and citizens.

Rest easy, K9 Zeke. Please keep his handler, K9 Sergeant Slayback in your thoughts during this difficult time.

-From a grateful agency and a grateful community.
