I just wanted to give a quick shoutout to Shea from . Not only is she just an awesome groomer and human being, but she actually works with us here at Hemlock K9 to integrate the dog’s training into their grooming session.
So many dogs that come to us have issues with being handled and groomed - but being clean and well groomed is a necessary part of every dog’s life.
For little Hal here, grooming was his worst nightmare. He literally had to be partially sedated with Trazadone just to not have a complete meltdown. And even then, he would shriek and bark the entire time he was there - so much so that the groomers would get him in and out as fast as humanly possible.
Shea grooms not only my dogs, but also comes when I have Board & Trains who either need to be groomed while they’re here, or they need to practice being groomed.
With Hal, Shea came to the house twice during his Board & Train program to work with me and Hal. The first visit, we were able to take our time in a non-stressful environment and make the grooming a little more bearable for Hal. The second time, right before we went home, I showed Shea exactly what I wanted her to do when Hal did x, y or z - and Hal did even better than the first time! Barely any shrieking! Some shaking, but the amount of progress from when I first took him to his regular groomers where he was shaking before we even got in the door (they did nothing wrong! It just wasn’t the right environment for Hal)- it was so nice to see Hal not absolutely petrified of something he has to get done every 4 weeks.
If your dog is anxious or nervous at the groomers, I highly recommend using a mobile groomer (esp. Zooming Groomin) who will take the time to make the experience that much better for your dog.
