Meet Adam. This sweet boy is fighting a severe herpes virus infection in his eye. Thanks to your support, Pet Connection was able to take him to a specialist. He’s now on several medications, including antivirals, but even with treatment, there’s only a 60% chance of saving his eye.

Herpes virus is the leading cause of eye issues in cats and is incredibly difficult to control or cure. Sadly, most cats are exposed to the virus before they even enter a shelter, so it’s important to know this is not something shelters can prevent.

We’re doing everything we can for Adam and remain hopeful. Please send him your love and prayers as we work to save his eye.

Our shelter director, would like to share a memory with you about a cat that Pet Connection took in many years ago.

Rhonda came to Pet Connection shelter over 16yrs ago. She was abandoned with a litter of kittens. After her kittens were adopted, Rhonda, the mom cat, remained in our shelter.
After spending seven years in our shelter, Rhonda was diagnosed with hyperthyroidism. Pet Connection chose to have her treated with radioactive iodine (I highly recommend this for any cat with this disease).
When I picked her up from her treatment the vet techs told me that they had treated 6 cats that week. They told me that they voted Rhonda the “best patient’ that they had that week and how sad they were that she lived in a shelter instead of a home.

At that moment I made the decision to adopt Rhonda.
For the next 8 years, Rhonda slept with me every night and became part of my family. Her hyperthyroidism was completely gone due to the radioactive treatment that Pet Connection had done on her.
Rhonda eventually developed an ear infection. After a lot of vet care I found out that Rhonda had a cancerous, lymphoma, tumor in her inner ear canal. I had surgery done on it, but the cancer proved to be too far in her ear and brain. This was an aggressive cancer. Nothing that I could do could save her. I let her go.

Rhonda became an advocate for cats with hyperthyroidism. Pet Connection has educated so many cat owners with this condition because of our experience with Rhonda. We will continue to do so, in Rhonda’s memory.

Sam and Dorian! Both 6 months old and extremely friendly! They were also part of the humane case that we participated in helping. They are simply fantastic with other cat’s.
They greet all of our shelter workers when they arrive in the morning.
They take life with a grain of salt and just want to be loved.
They have never meet a dog, so we would be cautious, but not opposed to a home with a dog. Their personalities are simply outstanding.

Misty is a sweet 7 month old as of 11/24. She would adapt to any household but may be shy of dogs initially as she is not that familiar with them. She constantly desires petting from our shelter workers. All grey, she certainly resembles a Russian Blue.
