Lee Ann Reigart was tired of having to drive into Charleston every Thanksgiving morning to take part in a turkey trot. She named it the Fried Turkey Glide, as a tribute to frying the Thansgiving bird and doing things a little differently. For the first 5K run, there were 6 participantes. Beer, shots of Wild Turkey and muffins awaited the participants at the finish line. Things have changed since t
hat first run. In 2013 this run attracted over 100 participants and was voted one of the top ten Thanksgiving Day races and the number one free small town race in America by Outside Magazine Online. This year’s run will follow the same small town traditions set by the previous runs. You don’t have to be a runner to participate (bikes, strollers, ATVs, and golf carts are welcome). There will be no registration fee. Giveaways will include free t-shirts (donated from previous local races), awards, and snacks. Bring the kids and pets out to the scenic, rural lowcountry and enjoy the pristine, natural setting in Awendaw for a family fun morning. The run starts at 9:00 at Garris Landing in Awendaw. From Mount Pleasant, go north on HWY 17 and turn right on to SeeWee Road. Go 3.4 miles and turn right on to Bull’s Island Road and go 1.6 miles to the run start.
