Yesterday was SO special! Justin Sweet was certified as an HS Groom Elite Groom. This has to be one of our favorite certifications ever. Justin has come so far and overcome so much to get to where he is today. As he said yesterday, “My mom has her son back and my sister has her brother back” and now the Show Horse industry has a top notch groom, ground man, c**t man in Justin. It is a tradition that we all say something to the person getting certified and we all had a lot to say about Justin. Wendy had the most to say. Wendy sparked the fire in this young man and he ran with it. Justin broke a two-year old with Wendy’s guidance, Showed a 2 year old and helped get many weanlings and older futurity babies in the ring to wins at the Tennessee Futurity with Wendy (and Patrick) not long ago. Thank you Wendy!!
Justin got a little (or a lot) emotional when it was time to come up and get his certificate. We are all so proud of him. Thank you Tina for taking great photos to capture the occasion!

I wanted to let you guys know about a really cool thing that is happening at HorseSensing. One of our farriers, Jared Charles, was out shoeing and trimming several horses here one day. He asked if any of our guys would like to learn about being a farrier. One of our guys, John, stepped right up and Jared handed him some shoeing chaps to put on and for the rest of the day he assisted him with all the horses. At the end of the day Jared asked him if he would seriously like to pursue being a farrier. John was very excited and answered yes. Since that time he has accompanied Jared in the truck and has been learning the skills needed to be a farrier. This is another opportunity that came out of being a resident here at HorseSensing and the generosity of one of our horse care team. Jared has said that to successfully pursue being a farrier, an apprentice needs to study under a farrier for 4 years 5 days per week to truly master the skills to go out on their own. John has been going out with Jared for more than a month now and is on his way! We are so thankful to Jared for giving one of our guys an opportunity like this!

HorseSensing would like to thank everyone that came out yesterday for our Hometown Fall Festival! Record number of kids here enjoying all the activities-Pony rides(Asia was a superstar!), Pony Painting, Bouncy Slide (what a hit!)cake walk, all the games and doing art with Tara, plus face painting, sack races, corn hole, etc, etc!
The drive was filled with vendors and shoppers enjoying the perfect weather! Cricket and Froggy Radio did an excellent job broadcasting right from here! Next Josh Bogard entertained everyone with his awesome Country tunes. Our food court was busy non-stop as the volunteers served hundreds of hamburgers and hotdogs and sandwiches. The vibe was happy and everyone was feeling good! Josh Bogard and his wife had the tough job of judging the kids costume contest. Folks loved the free raffle and all the fantastic crafts to shop for. Lots of holiday shopping happened!
We are bringing this event back next year and the vendors were asking when they can reserve their spot. We are so happy they did well too!
Our volunteers knocked it out of the park in all the separate areas yesterday! Our volunteers really are the heartbeat of everything we do here at HorseSensing, and you folks that support this event helped us the pay for all the free programs we have here. Special shout outs go to Bill Sample for his amazing job on managing the parking-a huge undertaking that was physically taxing for many days leading up to the festival. Thank you Tina for taking on the food court that was crazy busy ALL day! Thank you Traci Titus and Tracy Cottrell for all the weeks of planing and fine-tuning! Thank you Debbie Mclain for running the Kidz Zone and all the volunteers that helped you run it like Debbie Holloway.
Thank you to our Pony Ride crew-Asia the wonder horse, Cathryn, Asia’s mom, Jamie and Gregg, Sherra and Shandy and Brandi plus our residents Brian and Justin.
We literally had more than 50 volunteers to make this run like it did. Thank you ALL!
Next year the festival will take place on October 11th. With any luck we will have this weather again!
Thanks again to all of our friends, neighbors, tourists and visitors for coming yesterday!
